Farmhouse barn between Parma and Reggio Emilia

Bedrooms 1
Space 60 m²
Property type barn
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

2 Persons suite on a 70 hectare wine growing farm

On the ground floor of our old 'Barchessa', extension of typicall local farm-house in which we live in, surrounded by a 'Lambrusco' wine growing estate of 70 hectars, a 60 square meter flat has been recently renovated. Entrance from the cotto paved threshing-floor, living room with dining and cooking areas, one big queen size bedroom with complete shower room.

In the hart of the busiest Italy this estate is a sort of enclosure. Private grounds all around, The 'Barchessa' has its own garden, outdoor tables and chairs, umbrella, garden shower and shares the house's small swimming pool.

Stefano & Margherita have two dogs (Mysty the Labrador and Nénè the Manchester terrier) and four cats (Cipolla, Celestino, Siviglia and Palletta di Pelo) living with them.

Beautiful farmhouse nestled in the countryside

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our stay at the cottage. Comfortable, cozy and fully equipped with everything you need for a great experience! Our hosts, Stefano and Margherita were wonderful. We made several trips to shop, sightsee and eat in nearby Parma, Modena and Reggio nell' Emilia. Would definitely recommend this property to everyone!

Repeat visit

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed with Stefano and Margureta on two occasions,as have our son and daughter in law.

On each occasion we have all had a very good time. The cottage is beautifully situated in lovely rural surroundings with a tranquil ambiance.

The cottage is well equipped and our hosts could not have been more helpful or friendly

Parma and Reggio are easily reached and the region has abundant excellent restaurants.

Altogether a wonderfull vacation experience.

Friendly welcoming hosts and a delightful property in an excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

Stefano & Margherita - and other members of their family - were the friendliest hosts we have met in 30 years of taking holiday properties in France & Italy. Margherita speaks very good English and Stefano is positively fluent. The property is easy to find and to access - not always the case in rural Italy. The quarter-converted farm building offers very good quality accommodation on a large estate, surrounded by Lambrusco vines, and comes equipped with all the little extras that help a holiday along - including Sky HD TV, which was appreciated during Euro 2016. Located in the flatlands, road access to major centres like Parma and Modena is as easy as it will ever be, while the hills to the south allow instant escape into a quieter, more varied Italian landscape.

A wonderful retreat in an enchanted countryside

  • 5 of 5

The accommodation was everything we needed and decorated with reminders of Italy's fascinating history. Stefano and Margherita were extremely approachable and knowledgeable of the area. The guides they provided made everything easier. The estate offers solitude, wonderful walks and privacy set in a beautiful garden. An Italian experience par excellence.

An oasis of calm

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at La Barchessa. The property is very well equipped for self catering and was lovely and cool despite the temperatures outside being over 30 degrees. We used the pool and private garden and charming belvedere but not the bikes! Stefano and Margherita are excellent hosts and gave us lots of good advice on where to eat and where to visit. The amount of background information which they have left in the barn is the best that I can recall being provided. One week in Emilia Romagna is not enough.

I thoroughly recommend staying at this charming property.

A Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived at La Barchessa, Stephano and Margherita made us extremely welcome. Despite the unpromising small light industrial area on the edge of Bibbiano, the property is very secluded, sitting amongst fields and vineyards with views to the south towards Quattro Castella (just down the road) at the foot of the eastern edge of the Appenine hills. It is within easy reach of Parma, Piacenza, Reggio and Modena with their wonderful centro storicos and more museums, churches and art than one could hope to cover in two weeks. (Remember that all churches close at midday for at least three hours and double-check opening times of all museums you plan to visit).

La Barchessa is peaceful, spacious, comfortable and very well-equipped with many lovely old prints and pictures on the walls. The small above-ground pool was a godsend at the end of a hot day's sightseeing and it was a delight to drink and eat outside in the secluded paved area. Stephano and Margherita were absolutely charming hosts who provided a fantastically comprehensive guide to the local shops and restaurants plus the main sites in Emilia Romagna (as well as a G&T and Lemoncello on a couple of evenings!) and their description of La Barchessa was spot on.

The local Conad supermarket is only a few minutes' drive away and it also offers cheap fuel. If you're a car fan, ensure you visit the Ferrari museum in Maranello. We only tried a couple of places to eat but we especially liked the pizzeria in Via Roma in Quattro Castella.

All in all, a great stay. Thankyou, Stephano and Margherita for making it so enjoyable for us. We'll definitely be back!

30 minutes from Parma, Fontanellato, Colorno. 20 minutes from Reggio Emilia, Correggio. 40 minutes to Modena and Sabbioneta. 60 minutes to Mantua and Bologna. Many things to sight-see in the padan plain. A forgotten by tourists Italy. Where mythology wants Apollo's son crashing into the Eridano river (now Pò) and the sisters turned into poplar trees. Here Dante and Petrarca came to meditate on the stone of Bismantova. Here renaissance moved its first steps at the courts of the Gonzaga and of the Este. Here are landscapes painted by Correggio, Mantegna, Parmigianino. From here great painting collections mooved to Hampton Court with Charles Ist, or to Dresda with Albert the strong leaving empy the palaces of Mantua and Modena. Here where the first Mediaeval known artist (Antelami) brought up his cathedrals in Parma, Modena and Fidenza. Here where you can have a real taste of Parmisan, culatello or prosciutto di Parma, drink fizzy Lambrusco and eat real tortellini. You should be here.
