My husband and I came to this little gem back in June 14 for my 30th birthday.
I have travelled to many places, and by far I found casa bianca to be the most tranquil, relaxing, friendly place I have ever stayed. The family that live within the grounds of the property are very friendly and accomadating without being to invasive of your privacy, they also own two lovely dogs that come and say hello but will also leave you alone if you send them away.
The property was very rustic, comfortable and I slept well every night, the property had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Having breakfast outside on the patio overlooking the grounds and pool was so lovely, listening to all the birds and wildlife was a great way to spend the day.
The pool is warm and clean with plenty of sun loungers and we basically had it to ourselves most of the time, on the odd occasion the neighbour would pop over for a swim but again we found them very pleasant.
We hired a car and travelled to cefalu town about 20 minute drive to the base of the mountains. Here we were able to stock up on food and walk around the streets and the beach was nice also, although did not go for a swim as water felt so cold compared to the lovely pool. We also drove around the mountains and found some lovely typical isolated Sicilian towns and villages? If your looking for pure R&R then this is the place to go we will be booking to go again later this year.
Thank you to the family for making our stay perfect.
We had two wonderful holidays here in 2014—one in April and the other in September. If you need to relax and escape from the working world, this is the place to be. It’s rustic; it’s back to basics, but not really. You have everything you need plus a very comfortable bed and a wood-burning stove, which is useful as the evenings can be chilly (wood provided). The washing machine means that you can travel light. But there’s so much more than that: there’s the fresh air, the quietness—undisturbed by human noise but filled with the noise of wildlife—the beautiful grounds, the abundance of fresh fruit—yours to pick, and extremely hospitable hosts. For us, the virtual lack of Internet and phone coverage was a bonus. If we needed a connection, we went to the main house, otherwise we enjoyed not being disturbed.
A point to mention that perhaps isn’t clear in the cottage description is that it’s set in the extensive, gated grounds of the large, family house. This is in no way an infringement on your privacy. There’s plenty of space between the big house and the cottage. The small family is charming and could not have been more kind and helpful. I don’t want to worry anyone who reads this review, but it did snow when we were there in mid-April—but that’s climate change for you. Anna and Pamela arrived at our door with woollen sweaters and ski jackets, a freshly baked cake and invitation to dinner. Of course we had to return late in the year to experience the sun. We weren’t disappointed. We enjoyed the pool, the surroundings of which are now beautifully landscaped with exotic vegetation, an outside shower, and decking with sun loungers.
The other reviews give a very accurate description of the cottage. Everyone is enthusiastic, and with good reason.
The cottage is about a 15-min drive up from Cefalu, which means that it’s several degrees cooler than on the coast. In the summer months, this is a real benefit. We went to Cefalu to food shop and swim. As we weren’t impressed with the restaurants there, we made the most of the fresh produce from the market and cooked ‘at home’ in the cottage and ate outside on the large terrace, which loses the sun in the late afternoon.
The really good restaurants are in the mountains at Isnello and Castelbuono. If you go there in the evening, drive carefully: the road has a lot of unexpected potholes and subsidence. But nothing to spoil two wonderful holidays.
The house is set in beautiful acres, very private with beautiful nooks to explore, a little brook, an orchard, a wisteria-clad porch, and all in the midst of the dense Madonie Mountains. We couldn't have asked for a more idyllic place.
The house has been very tastefully renovated - wooden beams with quirky colours, old reclaimed windows next to a modern poster.
As you enter, you find a drawing room, and a separate dining room, leading to a tiny, but well-equipped kitchen.
There are two rooms upstairs - one with a very comfortable double bed, and another with an equally snug double-sofabed. Ample, clean bed linen were provided.
Close to the property is a wonderful pizzeria and alimentari called Spaccio Colombo. The owners are lovely and warm, and the food as wonderful as you expect Sicilian cooking to be.
The drawbacks to the property:
- Though the bathroom is clean and comfortable to use, the shower cubicle is very small, and would be a challenge for most. I'm a small person, and I could barely move.
- The stairs to the first floor is very steep and narrow, and would certainly pose a problem for many.
- Access to wi-fi is almost non-existent: there is one faraway spot on the property where you can get wi-fi, so you have to take your phone/laptop and walk across to the other side of the property, stand at that exact spot, do what you need to and get back to the house.
This is a house for those looking for a rustic, adventurous holiday in the woods. It's a wonderful place for children - my five-year-old enjoyed it thoroughly. And for the price, it's very good value for money.
Ein wunderschön gelegenes und stilvoll eingerichtetes Haus!!! Sehr sauber!
We spent 6 nights here at the end of a two week stay in Sicily, and can say without hesitation is was by far and away the best place we stayed! The cottage is as good as the photos, if not better, and Pamela and her family were extremely welcoming and friendly. The house was very comfortable and is extremely well placed for exploring the coast and the Madonie, or simply just staying in the garden, enjoying the fresh fruit (we were there at apple, chestnut, fig and persimon season), relaxing and taking in the views down to the sea. The pool is lovely too (although a little on the cold side in the middle of October!), but the sea was beautifully warm still, so we weren't complaining. Coupled with the wildlife - we heard owls every night and saw a large range of birds, not to mention the family of wild boar who came up to the fence while we were having breakfast, this makes Casa Bianca a fantastic holiday house. We have already discussed when we hope to be back!
The property is located in Madonie Natural Reserve,
11 Km from Cefalù, one of the most beautiful art town in Sicily with monuments, museums, very good restaurants and an amazing sandy beach by a warm, clean sea,
25 km from Campofelice golf club, 1 hour by car from Palermo.
Its position between sea and mountain is in one of Sicily's most attractive areas where the tradition blended with comfort and stunning sea view, offers relax and culture.
A great base for your holiday in Sicily
