About the property

Fairytale Elegance

Near the quiet southern shore of the sublimely beautiful Upper Saranac Lake lies this enchanting and peaceful retreat for those who appreciate charm and serenity.

A unique Adirondack estate...this property rents Saturday to Saturday, during the Summer months of Memorial Day to Labor Day. Maximum occupancy is strictly limited to 4 during this time.

This historic home (the east wing of the Swenson Estate - was built in 1930 with creative character and offers 3 bedrooms/3 baths. It is approximately 1800 sq feet on 5.3 park like acres. The fully equipped unique kitchen has been described by many as award worthy with remarkable attention to detail. "Fairytale like" it has been commonly described as and it has repeatedly been said, "The pictures do it no justice"

All linens are provided as a courtesy, but please DO BRING YOUR PERSONAL BEACH towels. There is a TV for DVD/VHR viewing only, with a plentiful library to choose from. There is a small Bose Bluetooth unit to play your personal music.

There is a fire pit for camp fires, and an expansive lawn for games. The lovely deeded, semi-private shared beach (Upper Saranac Lake) is a 5 -7 minute park-like stroll from the home through a quiet, sparsely populated neighborhood. As a back lot location, it offers a "safety buffer zone" with certain peace of mind for those with younger Children or Grandchildren. With a grass lawn, the beach is clean and sandy with a gentle, gradual drop-off. Again, very safe for young children. We have one Old Towne Canoe and 2 Kayaks stored at the home for your use and enjoyment. No motor boats are permitted.

The High Peaks Wilderness area, directly across our drive, offers you hiking, biking on endless trails and canoe access to the Stoney Creek Ponds and the Racquette River. The popular Ampersand Trail is minutes up the road, as well as one of our favorites, the Deer Pond trail, a gentle hike for children. Golfers will enjoy the Saranac Inn Golf Club, ten minutes up the road founded at the turn of the century and designed by Scottish pro and architect, Seymour Dunn; this 18 hole course was designed using the natural terrain to provide a great golfing experience with lovely mountain views. Adventurers can traverse 30 miles of waterways that connect the lakes Oseetah, Kiwassa, Lower and Middle Saranac Lakes. Travel through the lock system which raises and lowers your watercraft to the level of the connecting lake. Take note- there is no lock access to the Upper Saranac Lake thereby granting you an extremely quieter lake experience especially at the southern is pristine. At the Paul Smiths Visitors Center, you can explore gentle hiking trails and learn about the Adirondack region. And be sure to check out the whole wild world of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake at our Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. (Also known as "The Wild Center") On Sunday, you can ride your bikes or walk to the Chapel bound boat which takes you to non-denominational services at Chapel Island, a short ride away.

Secluded, yet very convenient to all amenities...23 minutes to our Olympic village of Lake Placid, 11 minutes to Saranac Lake, 8 minutes to Tupper Lake, 2.5 hours to Montreal. Our regional Adirondack Airport (SLK) is a 20 minute drive up rte 30. Please call/email me to inquire ... Joanne 518-637-1620

About Joanne

I currently live in Aspen, Colorado.. This Home was my Family home for 10 years where we created many fond memories. I warmly welcome you to create your own in the 'Healing Woods' ...

Joanne purchased this estate in 2000

Why Joanne chose Tupper Lake

It was geographically close to my parents who were in their chapter of needing my care and provided access to Whiteface Mountain for downhill skiing for my children. There was a magical feeling felt by all of us....

What makes this estate unique

Private, quiet location, yet convenient to amenities...located very near (a 5 minute walk) to the southern shoreline of one of the most beautiful Adirondack Lakes, the Upper Saranac Lake. There is NOT a lot of public traffic on this lake because it is not connected via the lock system, thus a more tranquil experience. The shared beach is never crowded, always lovely with a gradual clean and sandy slope. Listening to the first signs of Warmth -the spring peepers, the frogs mating in the pond, the beautiful song of the Wood Thrush in Summer, the wild blueberries in August, the calm, clean tranquility of the lakes, a kayak cruise at dusk with musical calls of the can find nature's gentle music and quiet amidst all the recreational options here at Indian Carry...

The house and property were out of a fairy tale. There was even a dignified frog in the little pool in the backyard. The hammock was heaven and the lake clear and cool. This was a fabulous way to escape NYC's heatwave. What a jewel of a house!

Owner's Response: You and the cousins please come again Susan! You know, a past Guest sent me a photo of (perhaps) that same frog last year, we named her/him Spike...

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in this house You could tell that a lot of care was put into keeping the house in order. And the area was wonderful. We ended up making blueberry pancakes using the wild blueberries growing across the street!

A very special home!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely visit, despite unusually extreme high temperatures! I must say that although there was no A/C in the house, by keeping the windows closed and curtains drawn during the day, the house was able to stay comfortably cool most of the time. That's some good insulation! And this house really has everything! It has so much character. You can spend time just looking at all the interesting items, furniture pieces & etc! The library has games for all ages, books for all ages and all kinds of neat stuff. We did go out on the canoe a couple of times and it was really easy to roll it down to the beach on the wheeled carrier. Canoeing on the lake was just lovely! The beds were very comfortable as well. Joanne is very communicative and attentive and if you need anything or have any issues, she is quick to get solutions. The scenery and the woods are beautiful, lots of hiking trails nearby.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Marianne...In my 10 years there, I don't ever remember it being THAT hot for so long...and no one that I know has an air conditioner for that reason; I hope the fans helped and thank God for the water!

The perfect place!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely, relaxing place.... the attention to detail that Joanne has put into her slice of heaven is INCREDIBLE!! This is the place to get away and relax. From the beautiful cottage and decor, to her extensive library, every room is filled with treasures and enjoyment. Her outside patio, side porch, the fire pit, and swing all add to the beautiful relaxing setting, and this all is just a short walk to the lake. How nice of Joanne to open up her home and share her beautiful place with us. We will be returning to The Healing Wood Sanctuary! Thank you Joanne!

Healing Wood is a spacious vacation home nestled in the woods with easy lake access. The home takes you back in time but with all the modern amenities. The house is easy to find and is situated perfectly with quick access to Tupper, Saranac and Lake Placid. Great hiking destinations nearby. We will definitely return.

Beautiful historical house--great location

  • 5 of 5

The home is beautiful and extremely well appointed with beautiful detail. Our first thought upon entering was "I can't believe they rent this out."

We enjoyed a week of canoeing the lovely St. Regis area, eating great food, swimming and relaxing. The location is amazing.
