Kitchen fully equipped, large living and dinning room, high quality beds, spacious bathroom with bathtub and shower, free WiFi, TV, Blu-ray, espresso machine, and gated-covered parking (added fee).
I am an American and I am Pacs-ed with Patrice, a medical doctor here in Bordeaux. We enjoy antiques, fine arts, and the ocean. We also enjoy visiting the capital cities of Europe. We look forward to meeting people from around the world and providing them with a memorable stay in Bordeaux.
Nathaniel Washington purchased this apartment in 2015
This apartment has stone walls which have two niches carved into them in the dining area. When me and my partner saw that it really sealed the deal for us. The apartment is also very spacious and that makes it easy to move around and enjoy the space with the furniture that we really love.
The 9m2 bathroom has to be the biggest plus to this apartment. There is a large claw-foot tub with a large shower. Two people can easy get ready for dinner at a nice restaurant without getting in each other's way.
Nathaniel and Patrice were absolutely fantastic hosts. The apartment was beautifully decorated with every possible item you might need, including the practicalities. A chilled bottle of wine in the fridge and tons of helpful info from Nathaniel made Bordeaux the favorite part of our trip. The day wine tour with him felt more like a fun outing with an old friend than a formal affair. Loved everything!
My wife and I have finally realized that staying in one place while visiting an area is the best way to absorb it's real character. Of course, where you stay and which amenities you have at your disposal, will really enhance the experience. If you want to stay in a beautiful flat, be able to cook some of your own meals, and have close access to transportation and the heart of the City, La Monnoye is your place. Without going into long detail about the flat, take it from us, you will not be disappointed. While located in a working-class neighborhood in transition, this flat is safe, close to great restaurants and within walking distance to the heart of old Bordeau. Everything about the place is first class; very stylish and integrated well with the old-world stone architecture, quiet location, perfect bathroom for even tall people, great view from the kitchen window, completely equipped kitchen and even a washer and dryer, and the modern technology amenities are perfect for your home-base while visiting the region. We'll be back !!
We had a delightful time staying in Bordeaux and coming back to Le Monnoye each night was a treat. It is perfect-- and the optional parking place was secure and very close to the apartment. Nathaniel and Patrice have done a superb job of renovating a pre-revolution apartment and it is clean, fresh and tasteful. Not to mention comfortable. Nathaniel does a marvelous job with his initial meeting to show you the space as well as offering insight to the city – we used his notated map the whole week. The local restaurants were excellent and most were recommended by Nathaniel. I would recommend anyone to stay at this property and we hope to be back.
We were extremely pleased with our stay at this fantastic apartment. Nathaniel is a very thorough host who diligently catered to our needs. The place is wonderfully decorated, it's clean, and has all the amenities you could want. It's close to the "C" line (light rail) which provides easy access to the restaurant district and the center of town. Our experience overall was great and we'll recommend it to any of our friends who plan to stay in Bordeaux.
We arrived at Bordeaux just a few minutes later than we had anticipated and found the apartment very easy. A quick 10 minute walk from the train station. Nathaniel and Patrice were waiting to greet us at the apartment. And what a wonderful greeting it was. Nathaniel and Patrice are very welcoming and lovely and very keen to ensure you have everything you need for your stay at their apartment.
We were shown round the apartment in detail, with them both making sure we knew where everything was and how everything worked. They have lots of information to read on Bordeaux, with restaurant recommendations, cards and menus. I will say to you, the restaurants and shops etc that they recommend are to be taken very seriously!! Patrice very much knows his food, and the Boulangerie he suggested does the best bread we have ever tasted. We went to restaurant La Passage on the square where the St Michel church is, and this also was a great restaurant recommended by Patrice, the duck and fois gras was to die for!. We would recommend to you to venture into the main centre of Bordeaux for dinner, not far from the Tourist Office is a lovely restaurant called Le Bouchon Bordelais, this was a proper highlight of our stay and Id highly recommend this as a special meal.
The apartment itself is very luxurious and to be honest Id rate it 5 stars not 4. It is spacious, and very comfortable. It has a big seating area, dining area, well equipped kitchen, and large bathroom. The bedroom is beautiful and the linen and pillows are the height of luxury. When we left we asked where they bought the pillows because they are most comfortable we have ever slept on and we want some!!
The apartment literally has every single thing you will ever need for a short break away. There isn't a single detail that has been missed by the boys. From shopping carts, to bubble bath, to irons, to sewing kit, to sellotape, first aid box, coffee, tea.... I could go on but you get the idea. It was wonderful to stay at a self catering apartment and not have to buy the little things that you know you wont be taking home with you.
A little tourist tip for you your stay in the city, Try the VCUB bicycle hire system. 1.5 euros for 24 hours hire. You can pick and drop off bikes all over the city and we found them fantastic.
All in all we have had the mort wonderful stay in Bordeaux. Thank you so much to Nathaniel and Patrice. We will be recommending your apartment to all our friends and family!
This was a beautiful apartment in a great location with 2 wonderful hosts. Our family of 4 stayed at La Monnoye for 7 nights while we explored the city of Bordeaux and the surrounding region. Bordeaux was beautiful, diverse and energetic with much more to explore than we had time for. The apartment was impeccable, Nathaniel and Patrice have put a tremendous amount of time and thought into creating a comfortable, lovely space and it shows. Everything that one would need and more was in the apartment, and they took the time to fully explain how everything worked and where things were located (in the apartment and in the city) so that there was no guess work. All the appliances were modern and fully functional, which was a first for us in our travels, and very much appreciated! We highly recommend a visit to Bordeaux and a stay in this apartment, and would love to return to both.
Artists’ ateliers, antique shops, and historical monuments densely populate the area around the apartment. It is the area for those who are seeking 18th century architecture and cultural events within a stone’s throw of the front door. The apartment is located between Sainte Croix and Saint Michel right in the heart of the historic center.
Place Léon Duguit (Place de la Monnaie)
We are lucky to be located in this beautiful 18th century square. Just in front of us you will have a view of Hôtel de la Monnaie, the mint. This square is remarkable due to its pristine 18th century architecture and is the site of many films set during this period. It is amazing to think that this square existed before The French Revolution.
Porte de la Monnaie
This door of the city is 3 mins from the apartment and takes its name from Hôtel de la Monnaie. This door to the city acts as a frame allowing you to enter into the 18th century with cobble stones underfoot.
The TNBA Theater
The National Theater of Bordeaux in Aquitaine is within 3 mins of the apartment. At any given time there are intriguing shows that will surely knock your socks off.
Conservatoire de Bordeaux (Arts Conservatory)
Located within 4 mins of the apartment is the leading school of dance, music, and drama. We can often hear the students living in the area singing and playing music they add an extra note to the church bells of Sainte Croix and Saint Michel.
Sainte Croix (church of the Holy Cross)
This 11th century Romanesque church is the oldest church in Bordeaux and is located 3 mins away from the apartment. This church is simply breath taking due to its architecture and world famous organ concerts.
Riverside (Quai de la Monnaie)
Within 4 mins of the apartment, here you will find a large garden and a Sport’s Park with a basketball and tennis courts. You will see the river as well as Napoleon I’s bridge, Pont de Pierre. This is a great place to sunbathe or go for a romantic stroll to the famous Water Mirror, a favorite of young and old alike. The riverside serves as a host to large cruising ships that enter the city under the largest lift bridge in Europe, Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas. We are very lucky to be located so close to the riverside because it is where the many sporadic fireworks shows and open air performances of the city are displayed.
Marché des Capucins
This is a unique local market place located within 5 mins of the apartment where you can find garden fresh produce. Natives from all over the city gather here on the weekends to taste wine and eat oysters and watch the merchants sell their goods just as they have done for centuries.
Basilica Saint Michel
This is the Gothic 14th century church you see from the apartment window. It is a quick 5 min walk to the bell tower where you can tour the catacombs and climb the highest church tower in southern France. This church survived WWII but sadly is still visibly damaged by bullet marks that destroyed precious stained glass windows in 1940. Today the church is surrounded by a diverse array of restaurants and the square attracts people from all over the world to the Sunday morning antiques markets. Many of the antiques in the apartment were found right on this square.
Jardin de Douves (Medieval Ruins)
This site has been recently excavated and opened to the public. It is within 5 mins of the apartment and gives an honest glimpse of the architecture of the medieval walls surrounding the historic center. This is one of the few places in the city where the wall remains standing. Today we can walk along the top of the wall which has become a garden giving an impressive idea of the thickness of the wall.
This door to the city is older than the Port de la Monnaie and Hôtel de la Monnaie and offers a superbe example of Gothique and Renaissance architecture. You can arrive here from the apartment in 15 mins and climb the spiraling stairs to see a museum as well as great views of the city for FREE.
Miroir d’Eau and Place de la Bourse
Within 16 mins walk from the apartment, this Water Mirror is a perfect place for pictures, to meet friends, and to splash around in the water. Here you can let your inner child run free and enjoy the signature sight of Bordeaux.
Place de la Victoire
This square is located within 10 mins of the apartment. It is the meeting place for students and is at the beginning of the longest pedestrian only street in all of France. In this area you will find a wide range of shops and restaurants fitting all budgets and tastes.
Tour Pey Berland – Cathédrale Saint-André
This tower is located 19 mins from the apartment and is a perfect example of 15th century architecture. You can climb this tower but it is not as high as the tower of Saint Michel. The Romanesque cathedral built in 1096 (only one wall of the original church remains) is world famous because Eleanor of Aquitaine married Louis VII here in 1137.
