Visit Lost River Valley for the Mid-Atlantic's best outdoor activities, or just to escape from the city. On a beautiful drive through the Shenandoah Valley you will pass numerous vineyards, award winning farmers markets, and some great antique shops. The drive brings you to our mountain top cabin with breathtaking views of the George Washington National Forest and the Appalachia Mountains.
Our cabin is scenic and remote, and it has all the comforts of home, including central air and heat, a fully outfitted kitchen, and 2400 square feet of relaxation. A wrap around porch with an Indian inspired jhoola (hanging day bed), leads to a stunning two story high promontory deck with the best views on the mountain. The Lost River Valley Home Owner's Association takes care of the roads.
The herb garden is at your disposal, and the kitchen has views of the valley, and new appliances. Both gas and charcoal grills are ready to fire up as soon as you arrive.
Our cozy living room is outfitted with a gas fireplace as well as cable TV, Apple TV, and stereo and DVD player. We have high speed internet for our guests who don't want to be completely unplugged during their stay.
New beds in two separate master suites have valley and ridge views, and an upstairs private balcony. 2.5 baths and a third overflow bedroom make this an ideal location for up to six guests.
When are your ready to enjoy the outdoors, we suggest the one-mile walk along the ridge with breathtaking views on each side. Within a few miles of the cabin are multiple hikes, walks in the woods, George Washington National Forest, Trout Pond recreation centers, and much much more...

Chuck Johnson purchased this house in 2013
We have been visiting Lost River valley for over a decade and long wanted a mountain cabin. We looked at several properties for a couple of years, but the first time we saw this cabin, we were immediately hooked. The cabin has 360 degree views of the mountains, and was constructed seven years ago.
The views are fantastic, home is in decent shape. Three things that were quite annoying,
First is the presence of mice! Which continues to be an issue despite setting up traps. The second very annoying thing is that tap water has horrible smell to it. We weren't sure what the smell was from but assumed it may chemicals added to it since it is not city water. Thirdly, no washer/dryer in the home. Closest washing facility is half an hour away. You can imagine how cumbersome that can be.
This house was definitely worth the longer drive from Washington D.C., compared to the other cabins I've stayed at in Shenandoah. The view was breathtaking regardless of weather. Everything was very clean when we arrived. I still had cellphone reception at the cabin, and it was easy to find the place with Google Maps. There is an informational book on the coffee table about the area and sightseeing. This place is great for friends and/or family. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for the very relaxing getaway!
I had a wonderful long weekend at this lovely mountain getaway in July. The house is a large three bedroom with spectacular views of the mountains from the wraparound deck. It was incredibly relaxing to sit on the deck and bird watch and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The house has all the modern conveniences with a very nice kitchen and is beautifully decorated. A big plus is the proximity to state parks and good hiking trails. I would definitely recommend this rental to friends and colleagues.
