About Michele and David Whitaker

We are so excited to be your Hosts! We are Michele and David Whitaker, and we have lived in Dunedin from 2/2012 to 7/2015. Recently we had to relocate for work, and because We Love to Travel and fell in love with Dunedin so much so, we want to share what we love about Dunedin and the region with anyone, so we bought another house!

We are from New England originally and fell in love with the New England- quaintness of this small Scottish fishing village! we love to entertain and have friends and family visit often! our house was full of wonderful guests thru out the 2015 winter season!

Perhaps this will be your summer or winter retreat!

Currently we live Ohio and travel to Dunedin, California and New England often! We are married since 1983, have worked hard our whole lives, raised our 3 kids, now empty nesters, enjoy adventure, we are both working professionals and yoga teachers, and so, now, the most important role is that we are now grandparents and spend most of our time away with our 4 grandchildren in California and Massachuetts!

Michele and David Whitaker purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Michele and David Whitaker chose Dunedin

we chose to buy this home because we love Dunedin so much and made so many terrific friends and love the accessibility of the outdoors and the weather!! the backyard is like a butterfly and botanical garden. we knew immediately that this is where we want to return to time and time again and provide the opportunity for others to fall in love too! essentially anywhere in Dunedin is perfect. what is most important is that this house is on the Trail, a stones throw to the water, a quick walk to eat, drink and merryment. you will be amazed by the friendliness of the locals and tourists and you too will making friends and moving here too!

What makes this cottage unique

we instantly fell in love with this tucked away cottage, the front porch, the expansive private back yard, the patios- the private solitary nooks. we envisioned many cups of morning coffee and a good book everywhere! . to the left of the house is an Osprey nest, you will find many in dunedin, yet, having your own personal bird viewing was a gift. the cottage itself is just so comfortable - the ease of moving about the house, entertaining indoors or out. we love the privacy of the back yard and access to the 35 mile long pinellas trail from our back gate! oh and did we mention the stocked shed w fun toys, adventure accessories, the hammock park at the end of the street? or honeymoon island, st joseph sound sunsets or just walking to everything? lots of Unique Shops, Restaurants, 7 different Brewery's, Music Scene, the Natural World, we are never to far from anything. so many benefits to staying here. one of the realxing things we do is to nap in the hammock, listen to the birds, Osprey and watch the butterflies, all the while, slighty swaying in the hammock, gazing off into the trees and blue sky.... simple

So much more than a house, this is a home

  • 5 of 5

We spent five weeks staying at The Cottage, and I wish we could have stayed forever! Every aspect is thoughtful, comfortable, and restful. Comfy beds, seating areas, linens come together with restful decorative touches and landscaping to create a dream-like escape. The house comes stocked as a home, so even if you forget something, it's probably already there waiting for you. Michele is incredibly responsive and helpful. Really, I can only say wonderful things! This is the place to stay!

Great Gulf Town Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Stay: November 1- December 1, 2017. After a wonderful month stay last November 2016 we came back to do it all over again this year! There is so much to love about the cottage and it is the perfect base for enjoying all the area has to offer. The location is excellent, so close to downtown Dunedin, just walk or use the bikes provided. The neighborhood is so quiet and the backyard has several great spots to sit and relax after a day of activities. Loved all the birds, butterflies, little lizards and plants. Beautiful. So many great restaurants, parks, piers to fish from, and great beaches at Honeymoon Island State Park, all just minutes away. We made good use of the kayaks this year and really enjoy kayaking the Weeki Wachee River about an hour north. The cottage itself is beautifully appointed and so comfortable to live in. Our granddaughter loved her sleepovers at the cottage. One day, at her hous in Wesley Chapel, she said to me “Grandma, my body says it needs to go back to Dunedin”😊? Kind of how we feel when we are in MN! The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, when we didn’t eat out at the many fun and wonderful restaurants in Dunedin and towns nearby😉? See last years review for all the great places we frequent again this year. A few new ones for us this year that we really liked were Ozona Blue, Ozona Pig, Molly Goodheads, Julian’s Little Italy, and Hackett’s Causeway Cafe. Thanks Michele for sharing your beautiful cottage with us! KC&AC

Wonderful Snowbird Rental!

  • 5 of 5

I just completed a 4 month stay at this quaint Dunedin Cottage. This 2 bdr, den and 2 bath house was the perfect get away. Well furnished with 2 comfortable queen beds, nice linens and wide range of bath and kitchen supplies. Beautiful wood and tile flooring! It was very convenient to hop on any of the 4 bicycles and hit the bike trail located just outside the back fence. Lots of interesting restaurants located within 3-4 miles. Only one small negative for older visitors/handicapped. There are a couple of areas with a "step down", such as dining room and master bedroom that you need to pay attention too. A few pieces of blue painter's tape solved the problem:-) I will definitely make a return visit!

Owner's Response: We enjoyed hosting your Snowbird retreat to our cozy cottage! we are discerning consumers and appointing the cottage is so very important, as we look at the amenities and ask ourselves, would we stay here? what do we look for when we are searching for "just the right place". no hidden discoveries. that is why it was important for us to share the step downs in the description as well as in our conversations. you adding the tape is a great tip for future guests and i will share that suggestion as a personal option! we loved having you at the Cottage, and miss you a lot! as a guest, you are thoughtful, take great care and wonderful to "work with". thank you for choosing this cottage, as there are many you could have chosen. we look forward to your return! Awesome Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage met our expectations and more! The owners have created a lovely place for guests, in a very quiet, well kept neighborhood just blocks from the Gulf. The cottage was perfect for us - the size, the decor, all the beautiful spaces, and it's proximity to downtown Dunedin, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Tarpon Springs. The backyard was a delight. A great place to have morning coffee, read a book, enjoy outside dining or just relax after a busy day. We loved being close to Weaver Park. It was easy for Nino to hop on his bike, fishing rod in tow and cast to his hearts content. Also a favorite for our granddaughter. The availability of the bikes was a big plus. We used them a lot, on and off the Pinellas bike trail. We made good use of the State Park pass and went often to Honeymoon Island State Park and took the ferry to Caledesi State Park a too. Both islands are close by and at this time of year we had them pretty much to ourselves! Beautiful white sand beaches, nature trails, eagles, osprey, herons, ibises, tortoises, armadillos, roseate spoonbills, pelicans, tons of sea shells... all make for fun and interesting outings not far from the cottage. We walked Hammock Park a number of mornings; just a few blocks from the cottage with many nice wooded trails to explore.

The cottage is appointed so well; when we decide to cook in we had everything we needed. We really enjoyed eating on the back porch and at the gazebo area...not something we could do back in MN in November!

Loved, loved all the choices of restaurants in Dunedin. We tried many....Sea Sea Rider, Casa Tina's, The Living Room, Smokehouse, Kelly's, Olde Bay Cafe, Hog Island Fish Market, Happys Bayou Bites, both ice cream places, and more. Hogfish, stone crabs and shrimp and grits were some of our favorites. We made it to Marker 8 several times -a great spot to watch the sun go down; free shots at sunset. There are several breweries in Dunedin. Had fun trying flights of the different brews. All good😋򒰊The cottage was a great place to have overnights for our 7yr old granddaughter. She loved the fires we had in the backyard chiminea, downtown Dunedin's shops, the Farmers Market, Paint-Your-Own-Pottery and felt very much at home with us. Once again we created some great memories for her and ourselves. The cottage is a winner and we hope to return soon.

Beachy updated clean cottage near beach and town

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic location, private neighborhood home yet close to the beach and town. Dunedin is a beach town full of great restaurants, shops and breweries.(not commercial or tacky at all!) We loved using the bikes and hopping on the bike path out the back gate.

The home itself was updated and extremely well thought out. I've been to many beach homes and this one gets an A+, and here's why. A well stocked kitchen, cook if you want to or just make a snack, it's as easy as your own kitchen. Enjoy the gorgeous backyard, beautiful plantings and trees, very private. Two bedrooms with fluffy bedding, full size laundry area. We went to Honeymoon Island which is close by has white sand and not overcrowded. We also went to the Dali museum in Saint Pete, which was fantastic. I would recommend this to friends and will rent this location again. The best of all combinations, private cottage with a close proximity to all the beach has to offer.
