Welcome to our residence! You will be staying at a 4 bed, 4.5 bath home with a 3 car garage. However, please note, that we currently can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests. Our trademark red tile roof makes our house easy to find! Electric garage doors, solar and electric water heater, insulated walls, cross ventilation airways are a few of our design features that should make your stay more comfortable. Our partially furnished house includes a large kitchen with center island, dining room, a living rooms and a wooden deck. Out in our large yard you will find sour orange, guanabana, and avocado trees. Pets are most welcome! We are 4 blocks from a botanical garden with a restaurant and recreation area. The gym is a block away. La Ceiba is considered the ecotourism capital of Honduras. Class 4 and 5 rapids on the Río Cangrejal are but a 15 minute drive from your house. Beaches are within jogging distance. Canopy tours and mountain trails await. The boardwalk, built where the old pier used to be, is a major attraction as is the "Paseo de los Ceibeños" a beautiful beachfront park. La Ceiba is also renowned for it's vigorous nightlife. You can dine and dance in the many restaurants and bars around town. Cayos Cochinos, world heritage site, are beautiful keys located 45 minutes from the mainland. You can go overnight or do a day trip. Enjoy the beach, snorkeling and scuba diving as well as fresh seafood. The Cangrejal River is not just for white water enthusiasts. There are also a good number of restaurants, bars and parks along the road. Many of them close to the river so that you can take a plunge in its cool waters. A stroll through Swinford Park will take you through a lush garden where you will find trains and motor cars that were once used by Dole Food Company during the mid 1900's. Wander east and you will find garifuna towns bustling with African rhythms and culinary delights. If you happen to come in May, you may catch the country's most lively carnival. Do you think Manatees are cute? Take a 30 minute drive to La Unión and then a 20 minute train ride to Cuero and Salado Wildlife Refuge. You can take a boat tour to see all kinds of birds, monkeys, alligators and, if you are very quiet, an elusive manatee. Going eastward you can also visit Laguna del Cacao, another wildlife reserve with touring kayaks that will take you to a secluded beach or to the innermost corners of the mangrove channels where the shrimp begin their life cycle. La Ceiba is this and so much more!

About Elias Lizardo

Analia and I moved to La Ceiba when I started my 12 year career at Dole Food Company. This is a quaint town with many friendly people. World class attractions are all less than an hour away. We were able to fish on the mangrove channels in the morning and have lunch along the white waters of the Cangrejal River. A 45 minute boat ride puts you in a World Heritage Site - Cayos Cochinos. A 30 minute motor train ride takes you to the Cuero and Salado wildlife refuge where you can catch a peak at a Manatee if you rise early enough. Our son Frederick, now in the US Air Force is very happy that he was able to grow up in this place. He was able to enjoy the outdoors like few others can these days. I now spend my time working part of my time in La Ceiba running two businesses and doing consulting work in San Pedro Sula. The house is too big for us now so we are now sharing it with you!

Why Elias Lizardo chose La Ceiba

This house was built in 1997 under my direct supervision. It was designed by my wife and the blueprints were hand drafted by my father-in-law. It is insulated and set on two assymetrical frames so as to maximize cross winds and cool breezes. The red tile roof is not only attractive, it adds to the insulation. The house is built on covered stilts just as the banana plantation houses were built in the early 1900's. The living area is upstairs while the garage and the playroom are downstairs with only metal screens which allow for cross ventilation. We have a solar heater as well as an electric water heater. We are steps away from Nautilus Gym and 3 blocks away from the CREDIA Arboretum where you can go for a nature walk and dine at their restaurant. We especially recommend Expatriates, a classic among locals. This restaurant and bar takes you back in time to "Cheers" where everybody knows your name!

What makes this house unique

The house stays very cool because of its design and its insulation. You do not always need to use the air conditioners. We have avocado, guanabana and sour orange trees in the backyard. A cistern and pump ensure permanent water supply. The deck is definitely the place to be at night. You can watch the stars facing Pico Bonito and the majestic Nombre de Dios mountain range. The kitchen is big so that you can congregate there while you prepare your meals.
