About Don & Joanne McCarthy
We moved to the Cape in 1971 from the Boston area and raised 5 children here. This particular home was the grandparent's home since 1970 the land had been in the family since the turn of the century. In the last 2 years this home was totally refurbished and now is available to rent. After raising 5 children Joanne went back to school and received her master's degree in marriage and family therapy and presently works with parents of autistic children. Don worked in insurance and started his own agency in 1979 finally slowing down and selling it 2 years ago but still remains working part-time for the new owners. We have 9 wonderful grandchildren and all but one live close by so we are kept very busy with the ongoings of the grandchildren.
Don & Joanne McCarthy purchased this House in 1970
Why Don & Joanne McCarthy chose East Falmouth
This house was built by Joanne's parents in 1970 so the grandparents were able to see their grandchildren grow and raise their own children. With the grandfather now deceased and the grandmother in a nursing home the decision was made to keep the home in the family renovate it and rent it. It has been a wonderful place to raise our children.
What makes this House unique
One of the unique benefits of this home is that every thing in the home is new. New floors, carpeting, furniture, bedrooms sets and mattresses as well as new stainless steel appliances. We also put in a new heating system. Front porch is pleasant to sit on as well as the back deck. We also have a 3 season room with 14 new windows which lets in a lot of sunlight. The family room is one of the favorite rooms in the house with a comfortable sectional to relax on as you watch the large flat screen TV or enjoy a game of cards at the table at the other end of the room.

We did a lot in our short time. We visited the JFK Museum in Hyannis, Martha’s Vineyard and we played games in the evening. The home was clean and about 10 minutes from the beach. I wish we had one more day just to relax in the home.

Wonderful family vacation destination!
Our stay was comfortable and convenient. The rental was spacious, well appointed and the location was perfect. The hosts could not have been more friendly and accommodating!
The house was beautiful and CLEAN! The pictures were spot on. We absolutely loved the 3 season room & the backyard. The corn hole game was a big hit it. Our stay was not long enough to enjoy everything the house had to offer. The AC was an added bonus. Don was available to promptly answer my questions via email. It was a great stay ... I would definitely stay there again!

Continuing north on Currier Rd. for one mile you will come a public boat landing and small beach at Ashumet Pond.
The house is located in a perfect area for the golfers in your party. There are five courses within four miles of the house. Don will be happy to talk to your golfers and fill them in on course particulars. He plays them all and often.
There are several salt water beaches within three to eight miles from the house. Manauhant, Bristol, and Falmouth heights to name a few, but Old Silver Beach in North Falmouth provides the most beautiful sunsets of any of the beaches.
If you are looking for a unique shopping experience, Mashpee Commons is the place to go. There are many local shops and some of the large chain stores. There are numerous restaurants serving Italian, Greek, Chinese, French, and Bobby Byrnes Pub. There is also a bowling alley, The Lanes, that also serves food. There are a few places to get your ice cream cones, and Sweet Waves where you can make your own frozen yogurt sundaes. One of our families favorites is Coonamessett Farm on Hatchville Rd. just a few miles from the house. You can visit with several alpaca, miniature donkeys, and farm animals. You can feed the chickens and ducks and collect eggs to purchase. You can pick your own vegetables or purchase them in the store. Be sure and visit their gift shop upstairs and enjoy a snack on the porch over looking the farm. During the summer and early fall, they have Jamaican Nights with traditional food and music.
Main Street in Falmouth is another fun spot to stroll. There are some great shops and restaurants. There is usually some type of entertainment going on during the summer. There is a great playground for the kids and during the summer season you can have a ride on the Carousal of Light. The Falmouth Historical Society offers tours through their houses and gardens. It is located across from the Village Green.
Continuing through Falmouth Center go left at the Green and head to Woods Hole. The Marine Biological Labs and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Labs are located there. There is an aquarium with a hands on tank inside and seals outside for your enjoyment. The seals are fed at 4:30 P.M. daily and do a little show. The Steam Ship Authority Boats run out of Woods Hole to Martha's Vineyard. The Island Queen also goes to the Vineyard out of the dock on Falmouth Heights Rd. That is closer to the house and has much better parking. It is a passenger ferry vs. the Steam Ship Authority boats which take both passengers and vehicles. On your way back to the house, take the shore road and stop at Nobska Light House for the perfect Cape Cod picture. By the way, if you are a bicycle enthusiast there is a bike path that runs from North Falmouth all the way to Woods Hole. It is a beautiful ride through woodlands, marsh areas, and beaches and you can stop when you get to the Hole at Pie in the Sky for a freshly made pastry or get fresh fish at several restaurants on the water.
We consider ourselves very blessed to live in such a beautiful area of our world, and we would be happy to have you visit us.
