Unplug, unwind and uplift your spirits! For those seeking to truly rest, relax, rejuvenate and contemplate their journey on earth. For the more adventurous traveler:

Step back in time with this 60's Boho, funky-style studio. Creative objets d'art and romantic lighting creates a very cozy, dark atmosphere (a petite solarium off the living room brings some natural light.) Walking distance to downtown, waterfront restaurants, Rocky Neck Art Colony, North Shore Art Assoc. and Gloucester Stage Co. Close to train (1 mi). Right in the middle of all the action while quiet and privately tucked away.

LIVING ROOM - Couch, oversized-chair, wifi & DVD payer. No TV, no A/C. 2 fans keep the studio cool.

SLEEPING AREA is located at back of living room in secluded corner with a full-size (double) bed and comfy memory foam mattress.

PETITE SOLARIUM - Small area off living room with twin bed. Strong morning light from slanted roof with large glass-like ceiling (for early risers).

PRIVATE GARDEN with wrought iron patio set.

About Linda Amero, Agent (Richard Emmanuel, Owner)

Host: T.C.R. Trust, Richard Emmanuel

My unrelenting quest to explore spiritual consciousness has been the central element of my life’s journey. During the failed youth revolution of the 60’s, I attended The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., studying comparative religion, philosophy, and sacred architecture. I decided to part ways in my fourth year and used my remaining college tuition to purchase an abandoned Church built in1800’s. In 1968 I created an experimental church. “The Church”, as it became known, continues to provide provocative stimulation on subjects of spirituality and the quest for the understanding of human consciousness. Walk -in art installations representing these central themes are juxtaposed and transcended with ancient sculptures of Hindu and Buddhist Art. I reside in “The Rectory” and it is part of the church complex where he has created a unique and charming retreat/studio space. It is a space to welcome people from all over the world to come and relax, rejuvenate and contemplate their journey on Earth.

Why Linda Amero, Agent (Richard Emmanuel, Owner) chose Merrimack Valley & Essex County

Serene, contemplative environment. Gloucester is also surrounded by a beautiful natural light, which is why many artists in the past came here to paint (and continue to come).

What makes this studio unique

This unique, retro-style studio is perfect for those seeking peace and tranquility. Tucked away yet very central to all activities, restaurants & shopping. You choose! It is perfectly situated between beautiful Good Harbor Beach and Niles Beach (15 min. walk in either direction). Very close to Rocky Neck, downtown, shopping and restaurants. While a car is recommended, it is not necessary. The fascinating waterfront is only steps away.

Cozy Cottage

We very much enjoyed our stay at Richard's cottage apartment. It was in a convenient spot in Gloucester- to both town and other near by towns, Boston as well. The apartment had everything we needed and Richard was very helpful in getting us oriented. We look forward to going back .

Great Stay, Great Weekend

  • 5 of 5
Verified Stay

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the studio for a long weekend and I couldn't have asked for more. It was lovely having our own little private getaway. The outdoor space was a lovely place to enjoy breakfast in the morning and a glass of wine at night. Richard was a wonderful host. He met us when we first arrived providing us with recommendations for markets nearby and respected our privacy throughout the stay. I would recommend this retreat to anyone looking for their own private paradise in a beautiful beach town. Thanks Richard!

Private, cozy, and den-like

My sweetie and I enjoyed a long weekend at Richard's charming Rockport getaway. Richard and Linda and Hank kindly and graciously got us oriented that first night and were there if we needed them. I came away wishing we shared some more time discovering friendship.

The 2nd floor studio is well laid out for the space, a little dark, comfortable, and well furnished. We were there during a small heat wave, had 2 fans going constantly, and closed off the solarium during the heat of the day which made the air in the living quarters heat up.

Gas stove. Comfortable sofas. Softish futon for sleeping (my sweetie didn't entirely fit). The clawfoot bathtub under a sky light is a plus. The walk to the Rudder for seafood and the active E Gloucester harbor was delightful. One morning we arose to catch sunrise at Good Harbor and have breakfast in Rockport. Overall, the retreat time was nourishing and restorative, feeling happy all around.

We'd come back!

Owner's Response: The best part of the HomeAway experience is the potential of meeting new persons to share the surprises of life's journey. Keri and Patrick are guest who are both understanding and open to such simple joys. They are at the top of the list for people one would look forward to meeting. Wonderful to hear that you left feeling refreshed and restored! Just want to clarify a few things for future readers and guests: The studio is located in Gloucester (not Rockport). We are happy to hear that the 2 fans worked very well for you once the sliding door to the solarium was closed off during the day - the space stays quite cool. We rarely need A/C here in New England, especially on the coast. The double bed is best described as a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress on a futon frame - which many find is great for sleeping. It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the skylight over the tub and got to experience a Good Harbor Beach sunrise. Please come back and stay with us anytime! Richard & Linda

Fantastic little retro get-a-way!

  • 5 of 5

Richard is a welcoming and gracious host, ensuring absolute privacy and superb availability. The studio apt is clean and cozy, with an instant at-home feel. Close to the water with easy walks to town or to the art studios of the East side, it allows a great balance of day tripping and comforts of home. The eclectic decor will keep you smiling and without a doubt, you'll know you've hit upon a gem. Super reasonable price, too. No question, we recommend!
