This 150 year old charming schoolhouse has been converted into a cottage that sits on a Hector hill in the heart of Seneca Lake Wine and Brew Trails. The family owned cottage has the unique octagon shape of schoolhouses built in that era. The central area has been rustically rebuilt around a gracious stone fireplace. The main area contains a full bed, cherry drop leaf dinner table, comfortable furniture for relaxing, cupboard with plates and flatware, SeriusXM radio, a large television and DVD selection (This is a put-your-phones- and-computers-away NO-WIFI zone! There is NO CABLE TV). The kitchen area features a gas stove, cooking utensils, kitchen sink, refrigerator, microwave, a small room with 2 bunks, a bathroom with step-in shower and closet. Sheets and towels will be provided. The mineral rich well water is good for showering, brushing teeth and cooking, but drinking water is also provided. The cottage is bordered on two sides by a vineyard. A small patio is the perfect place to relax and enjoy that bottle of wine you bought. If you are lucky, friendly spirits from the distant past occasionally make a visit, but their appearance is not guaranteed. There is an air conditioner, propane heat and wood fireplace. The wineries, breweries and local distillery being some of the obvious attractions, we are also minutes from hiking in the national forests, kayaking and swimming. Our location on a hill is the perfect biking challenge off the busy main route of 414. Day trips to Geneva, Ithaca and surrounding lake areas are an easy drive. Write in the journal of your adventures and become a part of our family story! We are a cottage in the middle of a rural farming area. Scott and Rebecca are high school teachers presently residing in Central Pennsylvania. In her retirement, Rebecca is a Reiki master and reflexologist. She taught high school French and Spanish. Scott continues teaching Spanish in Pennsylvania. Rebecca's mother is from the local area and she remembers Seneca Lake summers fondly. This cottage is the first step to their retirement plan. They have recently purchased a house in the heart of Hector 3 miles from the cottage. They have four children and two grandchildren and view this cottage as a place of respite for friends and family.
Scott Adrian purchased this cottage in 2002
This charming cottage whispers, "relax" the minute you open the door. It has a quiet ambiance that invites you to sit down, stop fretting and be at peace. Although not fancy, it is eloquent in the inherent structural story of its past and it present day role as safe haven. If you want the perfection of a predictable hotel room, this is not the place for you. If you would like a unique experience in a historic landmark, check us out!!
Round Schoolhouse Cottage is one of the most unique dwellings in the area. Its beautiful octagonal structure, it's quaint interior and furnishings, its spirit of peace, it's occasional visits from previous occupants make this place a delightful experience. The cottage has easy road access from Ball Diamond and Round Schoolhouse Road, but still maintains an aloof appearance sitting on a half acre grassy lot surrounded on two sides by the rustle of the vineyard leaves. Sipping a glass of wine or quaffing a local brew on the patio Adirondacks seems to make all right with the world.
We had a lovely weekend in Hector. The location was perfect and we were very comfortable in the schoolhouse despite the "country air." After long days out hiking we really enjoyed coming back to the DVD collection in the evenings. We highly recommend!
Great spot right in the heart of the wineries and breweries. My wife and I really enjoyed it. We took the short drive over to Watkins Glen for lunch one day. The hike at the Falls in Trumansburg was worth the drive over. But, really, it was about beer and wine. Very nice time.
We stayed for 5 nights this Fall, and had a most awesome time. The foliage did not disappoint, and the weather cooperated for the most part. Rebecca and Scott went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage was exactly as depicted, and what we expected. The location was perfect as well, with easy access to everything on both Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. We would highly recommend this cottage, and would definitely stay here again if we were to return to the Finger Lakes. Thank you for a memorable time!!
The schoolhouse was cozy and comfortable. We spent a week in Hector on our honeymoon. There is so much to do and see in the area. The Schoolhouse is on a quiet road surrounded by vineyards and farm land. The neighbors are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We visited Watkins Glen State Park, The Corning Museum of Glass and The Rockwell Museum. We did find awesome ice cream at the Glen Dairy Bar in Watkins Glen. Thank you Rebecca and Scott for having us!
The pictures look amazing on the web, but it's even better in person! We had anticipated only staying at the cottage to eat and sleep but ended up spending most of our time there! The view is breath taking, and to our surprise even though it's on the corner of two roads there's hardly any traffic! It's was so peaceful!! There are two trees out back that provide the perfect amount of shade and with the breeze on top of the hill we couldn't pull ourselves away from it!
My wife and I spent a beautiful summer weekend at the Round Schoolhouse Respite. Scott and Rebecca were very responsive and the place was perfect for us and our dog - which, by the end of the weekend, was two dogs - we adopted another while visiting the Finger Lakes. The cottage is great for a couple, and there is a little bunk room for a couple of kids - although it is fairly cramped, I'm sure adventurous children would love it. The location is perfect, so close to the wineries around the eastern shore of Seneca Lake and pretty close to Watkins Glen. The cottage is rustic, but it's clean, cozy and private. We enjoyed having breakfast and coffee out on the lawn both mornings we were there. We'll definitely be back next time we are in the area.
