2 Bedroom Apartment On Houseboat With Water Views
Houseboat apartment of 65m2 with a bright and spacious lounge. Downstairs a large bedroom with double bed (1.40x2.00) and a smaller bedroom with 2 single beds (80x1.90), very suitable for children. There is a sleeping sofa in the lounge for two in case you come with 4 adults and need some space for your feet. On deck there is a terrace. 1 Bathroom with shower and toilet. Full kitchen. View on the water from all the different rooms.
This houseboat is a steel ship of 36 meters long. It used to be a ferryboat. Over the years the ship was renovated to become a houseboat with 2 apartments. The owner lives in one apartment. The apartment where you will be staying is created recently and has a floorspace of about 65m2. The bedrooms and the living room are spacious and there is daylight in abundance.
It has central heating, hot and cold running water, toilet and shower, electricity, tv, internet, and a full kitchen. Everything you need to feel "at home".
On both ends of the ship there are terraces on the deck overlooking the water. There are swans, ducks and other birds to see most of the year. Children love to play pirate on this ship.

My husband, two girls ages 5 & 8, and me stayed in March and had an absolutely incredible experience. The houseboat was every bit as charming as it looks in the photos, very comfortable and spacious, and an experience itself being on the water. My girls never wanted to leave their bunks with the porthole views. The location is perfect, an easy walk from the Central train station with access to grocery and convenience stores. My only regret is we couldn’t stay longer!
Cute & quiet canal accommodations
From communicating with Sander before arrival, to coordinating day of, and finally meeting, I would have to say that this host goes over and above. Not only was he so willing to accommodate a late arrival, he graciously took us through the place and reviewed a map of the city with us, giving us tips on what to do and what to skip (don’t skip the roof of the NEMO!). The boat itself is an old vessel, that’s been updated to pretty modern standards. The bathroom and kitchen are both small, but that is totally expected given that it is a boat! Lots of natural sunlight enters the home in the mornings, and then front deck is so nice for a morning coffee. Even though you are on the water, you don’t feel any movement. The location is just north of Amsterdam, and we found it very easy to use the ferry and to get into town (takes almost 15 min to walk and take the ferry approx). Also, we arrived by car and parked at the Zeeburg P+R - also completely seamless and well explained by the host. Overall, would completely recommend and rebook in the future. Thank you, Sander!!
Peaceful spacious comfortable stay
We really enjoyed our stay here. The boat was spacious and fully equipped. The beds were very comfortable and the deck was a lovely place to enjoy a quiet evening. Thank you!
Magic on the canal
We had a wonderful time on this boat. We loved the quiet neighborhood. The boat is beautiful, well kept, and comfortable. Nord is a very cool part of Amsterdam and easy to get to by ferry. We could spend the day in the city, and then come home to a quiet evening away from it all. If we come back to Amsterdam, this is the place we'll stay.
A pleasant stay, although beware of loud moorings
We enjoyed the experience of taking the short (and free) ferry each day between the Noord (where the houseboat is located) and central Amsterdam. It is a 15 minute walk from the houseboat to the ferry, but once you get off the ferry you are right at the central station, with easy access to most all destinations in the city or beyond. The location of the houseboat might make you feel a bit isolated (it's surrounded by office buildings), but it's not that far from some cafes, restaurants, and a small market.
There's much to like about this houseboat, as other reviewers have noted. But we found it to be exceptionally loud at night, I guess due to the moorings. It sounded like loud clanking, and we frankly found it difficult to sleep as a result. We also had no hot/warm water for several days due to what turned out to be a faulty tap, but we appreciated that the owner (who lives on the other side of the boat) came over soon after we phoned to report the problem and was able to fix it. The management of the houseboat (separate from the owner) could be improved by providing a more detailed guide to the houseboat (how to work the TV, what to do with trash and recycling, etc).
This is a genuine 36 meter steel ship. Not a regular shore accommodation. Noises can be expected especially when there are strong winds as in this case.
The problem with the warm water in the shower was due to a faulty thermostatic tap. Everywhere else there was hot water. Problem was reported at 7:30pm and the faulty tap was replaced before 10pm same evening. I only wished the problem was reported earlier at the start of the guests stay.
In the information map at the houseboat and also online in the HomeAway hospitality app you will find instructions about waist separation and where to get rid of it. (Big bins in the garden with the writing plastic and paper on it.)
We will add instruction for the remote to operate the tv. Did not seem to be necessary up till now!
Located in a quiet residential area. It's a 10 minutes walk to the free ferry (runs 24 hours a day) which takes you in a couple of minutes straight to the Central station right in the middle of the city. From here all the major attractions of Amsterdam like the Anne Frank House, van Gogh museum etc. are easy to reach by bus or tram. The best way is however to rent bikes to move around like the locals.
