Why Jan and John Hanks chose Newport - Aquidneck Island

We bought the property for the water and water view. The property is off the beaten track... sitting on the deck or from the inside looking out, watching the different species of birds fly or float by, (one morning I counted eleven swans passing by). Watching the ever changing skies from sunrise to sunset, brings peace to my busy life.

What makes this house unique

The home is designed for year round vacations. The home has water views from most windows.

The house was a fantastic location and beautiful. Jan was a great hostess, going above and beyond with the extras. We had a great 5 day stay. The house meant all our expectations and more. Would definitely recommend!

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at more than a dozen HomeAway/VRBO homes over the years, and this was by far the best of the lot! The setting is lovely--private (we were here for New Years), right on the water--but close to lots of activities. The house itself and its thoughtful owners are what really tip the scale. The house is immaculate and very well supplied. It is open, bright, welcoming, beautifully furnished and finished. The master bed was a sleep-number king, and very very comfortable. It was made with 2 nice woolen blankets that proved to be warmer and heavier than I like, but ta dah! there was a down comforter in the closet as an alternative--perfect! The dining table was in an windowed alcove with a view of the water and the Mt Hope bridge. The TV was upstairs with 2 stressless chairs that were extremely comfortable. TV is Direct TV, and there were a couple of movies we wanted to rent. I texted Jan and in minutes had the necessary code and agreement (we paid for the movies we rented). There is a DVD player so you can bring your own, too. The master bathroom had a heated floor!! and a steam shower. It was like being at a spa. And the real welcoming surprise was the thoughtful stocking of the kitchen and fridge--a lovely bottle of wine, a basket of fruit, a bowl of snacks, and breakfast--English muffins, OJ, jam, very good butter, and Peets Dark Roast coffee. It was so nice to just arrive and not have to shop right away. The Hanks have a place in Solana Beach, CA, that we hope to stay in at some point. All in all, just a delight. Don't have any hesitation about staying here--this is absolutely the best.

Absolutely perfect.

  • 5 of 5

The house is modern, and the design and aplliances can only be described as luxurious. The style is charmingly nautical, and everything feels very new and in pristine condition. It is a perfect way to stay on the water for a quiet vacation, within a short ride to all the attractions of Newport and the area.

The owners are very welcoming, helpful, and take great care of the property - and go to great lengths to make sure the stay is easy and comfortable.

An ideal setting for a Rhode Island vacation

  • 5 of 5

The house was a wonderful setting for our week long autumn stay in Rhode Island. In addition to being well designed and decorated it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and the views of the bay and the Mt Hope Bridge are simply stunning. Our hostess, Jan, was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the treats she thoughtfully provided to welcome us. The Shore House is in a peaceful, relaxing location but still close to Newport, Bristol and New Bedford for day trips and good dining. It was hard to leave, it will be easy to go back.
