Charming riverside Mill in Nature Park with intimate beaches, deep rock pools, great hiking. Close to all amenities in Jimena, 30 minutes to Mediteranean, 1 hour to Atlantic.
Molino Gaitan is beautifully situated on the banks of one of the cleanest and unspoilt rivers in Andalusia, the Rio Hozgarganta, which flows through the Cork Forest Nature Park - Los Alcornocales.
From there one can walk in about 15 minutes to the village of Jimena de la Frontera or direct into the gorge and surrounding hills. There are wonderful river pools to swim in, one of the longest is adjacent to the Mill.
This building is for nature lovers, for hiking, rock climbing and those who enjoy observing birds and the rich variety of flora and fauna which abounds in this area. Excellent also for people interested in drawing, watercolours, or photography. Consisting of two storeys the Mill has been only minimally modernized, owing to it's antiquity.
On the ground floor there is a small shower and toilet unit, kitchen, dining, area and reclining alcove cool and atmospheric, dating from the original construction probably 1600 and can also be used as a bedroom alcove. Ascending the open staircase one reaches the double bedroom and access to the terrace with table and chairs. With a delightful and intimate panorama of the river, it's perfect for having breakfast or late evening suppers listening to the sounds of the valley. Outside, the walled garden and patio offers a shady retreat from the afternoon sun.
The Mill is supplied with Solar electricity, wifi, mains water, gas, hot water, cooking. Private parking is 60 mts away adjacent to our house Casa Gaitan. The Mill has a small library of books, maps, Spanish music and films but no TV or digital equipment. We offer a washing machine service from our house whenever required.
The village of Jimena offers bars, restaurants, supermarket, medical center, train station
north to Ronda, Malaga, Granada and south to Algeciras and many remains of past cultures, incl. pre-historic, Phoenician, Roman and Arabic/Moorish.
Jimena de la Frontera can be reached from Malaga, Jerez or Gibraltar airports, one can connect from Malaga City to the village by train or bus and from Gibraltar/ La Linea by bus or taxi.
We can also offer a non-driving holiday with pick up, departure, shopping service and guided tours for reasonable rates.
Gaitan Mill sleeps 3 people and is not suitable for children under 10 years.

Bird watcher's heaven
This isolated property is located in a beautiful river gorge teeming with birds and other wildlife and affords stunning views of local and migrating raptors. The peace is interupted only by the occasional sound of the bells of goats grazing the hillside opposite.

Idyllic old mill
The mill is 16th century, and a true paradise for those who like simplicity, and being away from it all, close to nature. The mill has been restored beautifully, and all you can hear is bird song and the odd dog barking. The bed is wonderfully comfortable, the cooking and bathroom facilities are simple but effective. The terrace is fantastic, overlooking the riverbed. Jimena is a lovely little town, great castle, characteristic white houses, and a few great cafes that serve excellent food (try the venison, or the locally picked toadstools and mushrooms). A place to go back to time and again.

Unique nature experience
We spent two wonderful weeks in Molino Gaitan, where we felt like the only two people on earth. It was a completely unique experience to find a place so beautiful and isolated. We practically had an entire natural park to ourselves, except of course for the vultures circling above us and the goats, Iberian pigs, and frogs with whom we shared the valley and the river. The days went with long morning walks in the beautiful mountains, swimming in the river, and reading books on the terrace while viewing the stunning surroundings. At evening time when the temperature dropped a bit, we walked up the mountain to the village where there were plenty of delicious tapas restaurants. The mill is tastefully renovated and offers all conveniences needed. The owners picked us and dropped us at the train station and were very friendly and helpful.
The Mill is absolutely ideal for people in search of peace, tranquility and solitude. The decoration, furnishings and furniture are commodious and contemporary, without diminishing the sense of antiquity in this majestic old building, once a place of industrious endeavor, that has now become a place of rest and recuperation. The owners Lisa and Roderic are very kind and considerate and I really hope to return soon.
Wonderful Mill with a river just steps from the house where you can swim, You got all you need to spend a peaceful and relaxing time just very close to Jimena de la Frontera. Highly recommended, I will repeat. Everyhting was clean, confortable and succesfull. This place is a treasure right in the deep of nature, such as the people who own it.
