Skiing in Kaprun Zell am See: With the glacier above Kaprun, the apartment is ideal for an extended summer ski season. The ski bus stop is a 1-2 minutes walk away, and a ride of about 10 minutes takes you to either Kitzsteinhorn or the Schmitten ski lifts.

In Kaprun village there is a nursery ski slope which is convenient for beginners, there is also the Maisogel ski area, which is a brief bus ride away or can be easily walked to from the apartment.

It is possible to upgrade your ski pass and to use it in the neighbouring ski areas which include Sallbach, Hinterglemm located further up the valley past Zell, there is also the Gastein valley approximately half a hour away by car, which is not only great for its skiing but superb for its spas.

Excellent facilities are provided for snow boarders with special terrain park areas set aside for you to show of your skills.

The mountain restaurants are excellent and provide a warm welcome break from the slopes and the opportunity to take in the views, rest and relax.

Golf in Kaprun and Zell am See: Nestling in the valley bottom surrounded by glorious mountains is the Kaprun and Zell am See golf club. This club welcomes visitors and has the benefit of not just one 18 hole golf course but two! at par 72 /73. A further 9 hole course is planned for the future.

With the mix of mountains, lake, trains, castles, palaces, numerous sport and activity opportunities, we think you will agree with the recommendation. The area is ideally suited for holidays of all types throughout the year what ever your age. In the summer we would recommend the purchase of the Salzburgerland Card, which allows 6-13 days of access to over 190 attractions, it offers good value to all visitors.

the contrast from winter to summer, Fantastic fresh food, superb views, and lots to do and see all year in the area

Derek Housley purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Derek Housley chose Zell am See - Kaprun

Kaprun is so close to Zell am See, with excellent its excellent links to Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich add to the convenience, of an Austrian village location, at the base of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.

What makes this apartment unique

In Kaprun there is the superb Tauern Spa Kaprun, Austrians know everything there is to know about spas, and a visit there will enhance any holiday. We like the history of Kaprun castle and its church.

Also we like the great choice of restaurants with fresh food and succulent meat and fish.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We all had a fantastic time in Kaprun last week and are struggling with having to come back to reality.

The whole experience was very relaxing and enjoyable for adults and children alike. The apartment was even better than we expected and the garden was a favourite place for the children to play out after skiing.

The apartment was spacious, spotless and very well stocked. The close proximity of the supermarket was a real boon as we went there most days and it wasn't far to carry the afternoon / evening beers!

We had a wonderful holiday thanks to fantastic accommodation in a fabulous setting - thank you, Emma uk

boys only trip

Some friends an I decided to go to Austria for a long weekend staying at the Austrian-Holiday-Apartment in Kaprun.

We found the accommodation on the web and got an early cheap flight with Ryanair from Stanstead (£50 each).

We flew to Salzburg in 1 hour 40 mins (arriving 20 mins early) and hired a car from Avis (e100 for 4 days) and spent the day sight seeing in Salzburg.

The weather was perfect, crisp and sunny with clear blue skies.

Every where is trimmed up traditionally for the festive season and very tastefully too with the white lights twinkling against the frost and snow in the background.

There is plenty to see. Christmas market, ice rink in the square, food stalls. Make sure you try the mulled wine or schnapps or both!

The goulash soup is worth tying. A local dish and the meat is excellent. There are shops galore all tastefully decorated for those of you who want to shop.

We decided to look rather than buy and spent our time exploring all the side streets. There is also a castle, museum, gallery and casino.

I recommend you walk down by the river and have a coffee at the roof top cafe/bar at the Hotel Stein which overlooks the town and river.

Great views and rugs are provided for those who feel the cold. Everything is done so well and everybody speaks English too!

We arrived at the apartment in Kaprun late afternoon after a 75 min drive from Salzburg.

The apartment is new, well appointed, clean and warm with under floor heating. Plus a store room for boots and skis etc.

The rooms are en-suite and there are views of the mountains from the front windows.

There is a supermarket close by for all your needs and it is only a 5 min walk into the town centre via the bridge.

You park the car in the basement and the drive is heated so there is never a problem with ice and snow to hinder your entry/exit.

The next day we woke up to 4 inches of snow. A picture perfect Christmas card. Wunderba.

Everywhere looked magical. It brought the child out of us all.

The roads were cleared with typical Austrian efficiency. The snow plough and gritters had been out during the night, so driving was not going to be a problem.

We headed out to Zell am See for a look round. Beautiful town, again trimmed up tastefully for Christmas (white lights only) with a Christmas fair that opens up at 4pm with brazier fires,

surrounded by cabins and bars. We headed for the lake for a walk then a hot drink at the Grand Hotel on the lakeside with good vie

Owner's Response: Very pleased that Nick's party enjoyed the trip. I understand that they enjoyed the "Krampus" celebrations in Austria, along with a walk on the glacier and a trip up the Gastein valley, visiting one of Austria fantastic spas. Hope that they will return for a visit to Tauern Spa-world-Kaprun which is scheduled to open in December 2010, and is only a short walk away from the apartment in Kaprun. Thanks for the review of your stay in Austria. Kind regards Derek

Family Fun in Kaprun August 2009

  • 5 of 5

Two families eight of us in total took over the apartment. The apartment is brand new and tastefully decorated. It is very spacious and everything you would expect is provided. Plenty of fluffy towels and bedding. Nice views from the front patio up towards the glacier. The location is spot on. a short distance from the town center and near to a well equipped supermarket that was able to provide everything we needed. Handy having two parking places as we had two cars between us. Good storage facilities in basement.

During our stay which coincided with a very hot spell we walked, river rafted, swam in the lake from the nearby lido at Zell am see and hired bikes and cycled. Went on a lovely night walk following a waterfall on the catwalk followed by baked potatoes and a roaring open fire with a local singing group. The route back was lit by each walker been given a burning wax torch. Starts of walk is about 14 minutes walk from the apartment. Also went o a Restaurant (Cannot remember the name ) up the hillside which hosted a local music night. The meal was good the best value of the week but the musicians were brilliant helped along by regular top ups of Schnapps by the staff.

A great place in summer and no doubt in winter it will be just as good for the skiing season. Would definitely recommend the area and the apartment it for anytime of the year. We hope to go back.

Austria Holiday Apartment - Kaprun July 2009

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed an excellent holiday. The apartment was spotlessly clean on arrival. It comfortably accommodated our five adults from four different households ranging in age from 78 to 26. The apartment is very spacious and well equipped including lots of thoughtful touches e.g. board games, DVDs and tourist information.

We found the lift from the main entrance to the apartment very useful for one of the less mobile members of our party.

The apartment is on the ground floor leading to a patio area and small garden with seating. The larger shared garden includes a small children's play area with a swing, slide and a sand pit. There are lovely views of Kitzsteinhorn from the patio.

Self catering is very easy in the apartment with everything that you need to cook for and serve 9 people. The well stocked and clean supermarket is only a few steps away but in no way intrudes on the views from the apartment.

There are plenty of restaurants in Kaprun. We enjoyed Das Wirsthaus near the fire station. The service was excellent with a wide menu to suit all tastes.

The apartment is very well located. The cable car up to Kitzsteinhorn is a ten minute drive away. The summer sledging up there was very good fun and free! Kaprun is great for walks, cycling, mountain views and much more.

We hired a car but you can get around using the local buses.

We didn't experience any problems during our stay but it was reassuring to have been given a contact number just in case.

Owner's Response: Glad that Steve & Pam found the "snow beach" on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, where you can sledge in your swimming costume! We find the supermarket is very handy for our guests, and is safely accessible for even our younger visitors to go shopping, for those last minute items - sweets! We are always pleased to hear that our guests have had a lovely holiday in Kaprun. Kind regards Sue & Derek
