Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Story - Waldorf A' Story Guest Haus

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), cots, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-10

Story is, in keeping with its name, a storybook-like community, nearly hidden by Ponderosa Pines, Hawthorns and greenery in the summer and generally covered in a blanket of snow in winter.

You will enjoy staying in this 1,500 sq. foot re-purposed old Piney Creek General Store and the Waldorf A' Story restrunt. It's been said that we were a 'place with an attitude'...and that attitude is a philosophy of enjoying the quality of life that Story has to offer. We couldn't let the mystique die, so our previous establishment was re-purposed into this lovely guest haus that is available for year round rental.

It has the ambiance of places long ago with worn, rustic floors, rock walls, flagstone dining room floor and a bar built from an extra LARGE Ponderosa beetle killed tree, but with all the modern conveniences. You will also find coffee, homemade bread and wine

You will take great pleasure from the antiques and all the paraphernalia on the walls which will keep you entertained for hours...as well as an abundance of games.

View the sunrise from the most awesome huge rocking chairs produced right here in Story while you rock away the hours on the front porch. Sunsets behind the mountains are just as spectacular. There is a stream on the property with places for you to sit and enjoy your early morning coffee...or mimosas.

You will snuggle into your queen size bed in the bedroom that was formerly the wine room and is decorated as such. Our old beer room contains bunk beds covered with old quilts made by each of our grandmothers. There is also extra sleeping for two on the futon and reclining couch. If needed, cots can be provided.

History of the area is waiting to be explored since we are so close to the Bozeman Trail. You will find Ft. Phil Kearney, The Wagon Box Fight Site and the Fetterman battlefield, all of which experienced a portion of the Indian Wars. Custer's Last Stand is just an hour away.

Wildlife is in abundance. Deer will walk up to you and eat right out of your hand. You might also experience a sighting of moose, elk, antelope, black bear, mink or mountain lions. A few bunny rabbits and robins nests too boot

Hiking and snowshoeing are two ways in which you can obtain exercise and observe the most beautiful wild flowers. Another option is to four wheel up beautiful Thornerider or Penrose Park. Winter time allows for snowmobiling

Hunters and fisherman will love the amount of room and the closeness to several lakes and perfect hunting grounds...as well as the perfect kitchen to cook up the fish that do jump on your line.

Ladies will love it for the various organizations they are involved in like quilting groups and book clubs with ample room to spread out and work on their projects.

Restaurants and a grocery store are within walking distance, as is the Post Office (right next door) so you can mail those postcards back home. The library is located conveniently right across the street for books and DVD's. Our DVD player is also set up to stream from Netflix...even kiddoes movies.

Several events occur year round, but the summer is full of excitement. You will find reenactments of fight scenes and one of the biggest Rodeo's around is held in Sheridan the second week of July every year. This week long celebration holds fun for everyone.

Drop by sometime. You're always invited to be our guest at what was once the Piney Creek General Store...and the Waldorf A'Story...that isn't any more...now it is better. We believe that Wyoming has some of the most beautiful scenery in the US of A...and we know you will agree with us.

Keywords: unique old general store and restrunt turned into a Guest Haus, commercial kitchen, huge dining room, family style. Children must be included in total guest count when using instant quote for accurate rates.

About Patty Hoover

Dick and Patty Hoover are the retired owners of the Piney Creek General Store and the Waldorf A' Story Restrunt. We live next door to the Guest Haus. Relocated here from Dallas, Texas for a slower pace of traffic and life in general.

Patty Hoover purchased this cottage in 1993

Why Patty Hoover chose Big Horn National Forest

We choose Story as a place to live permanently...because we enjoy the beauty and serenity of the place. Not very many people or cars...but still close enough to a big place when you need it.

What makes this cottage unique

The Guest Haus is right on a stream with places to sit and drink your morning coffee. Slow paced, great for relaxing or doing as much as your little heart desires. Large dining room for big families and a great commercial kitchen set up.

Terrific stay in Story WY.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were traveling across the country and decided we would take a couple of days to stop in Story for a couple of days of rest. Clearly the best decision we made on the whole trip. The Waldorf A'Story Guest Haus was an absolute treat. Patty had everything we needed to feel at home and relax including a bottle of wine and a loaf of banana nut bread that was delicious, thanks Patty. The "Edith Ann" oversized rocking chairs on the patio were especially great for coffee in the morning and watching the stars at night. The location along the Bozeman Trail and at the base of the Bighorn mountains make this a great base to explore the beautiful area. The photos don't begin to show wonderful unique nature of this property. We will definitely be back for more.

Owner's Response: So glad you found us and liked us so much that you stayed an extra day. Our place is just a jewel among the Big Horns. We have so many unique things to look at and enjoy and use as a base to explore the area....or just sit in the massive rockers and enjoy yourselves. So hope that you do come again when you are over this way. You were delightful and appreciative guests.

I remember when it was a deli-grocery store!

This was our second stay at the Guest Haus and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. While the pictures show the place just as it is, they can't do justice to the charm and uniqueness of the place. Looking at all the memoriablia is entertaiing, addicting and could take hours. There were 2 of us 'mature' couples and we found the place to be very large, inviting and comfortable. There is a fully equiped kitchen and a large dining room which let us enjoy many meals onsite. It was great spending time around the fire pit as well as sitting quietly reading by the creek on the property. The owners are a charming couple who interacted with us and made our stay that much more special.

Owner's Response: AAAhhhhh how sweet. It is always so special to have guests stay with us that had experienced the Guest Haus in its former life. Re purposing was one of the best things we could have done to make previous customers keep coming back. We so enjoyed your company . It was like vising with old friends and family and we certainly hope to see you again. One thing you did forget to mention was the hours of fun had by all playing one of the many games we have available to our guests. Appreciate you letting us join in with you. Till next time.......

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay at the Waldorf. It does come in handy when family members come to stay as there is ample room for everyone to converse either inside or out. Lovely grounds and a creek to enjoy your coffee by....can't beat it. It don't get no gooder!!! Hope you can utilize us again for your extended family.

Quaint, charming, and a bunch of fun.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Guest Haus for 4 nights and loved every bit of it. Our two girls absolutely loved the bunk beds! It was the very first thing that they noticed when entering. The whole place was so eclectic that there was always something new to notice about the wonderful environment inside and out. The owner came to greet us shortly after arriving and she is just the sweetest person. The owners were also always quickly accessible to address any questions that we had.

The night that we arrived, it snowed and that next morning it looked so majestic. We sat around the fire-pit most every night and made smores then got to sit next to the "crick" and eat them. It was a delightful stay and there was a general store just down the street for any supplies that we needed. My wife's whole family in Sheridan was jealous!

10/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Owner's Response: So glad you were pleased with your stay. We're kind of prejudice but we think its pretty nifty ourselves. I was so happy that it snowed and when I saw the two little California girls playing in it I was tickled. Come back anytime. You'll never be bored.

It was as advertised.

It's a neat little place, lots of character. Clean and homey. Would stay there again. The owner stopped by, enjoyed a glass of wine with us and shared some local lore.

Owner's Response: So glad you guys enjoyed your camaraderie in the mountains and were able to obtain the antelope that you came for. Always great to go down memory lane of a place you used to live. Come back again and we can enjoy some more wine together and you can hunt some elk

We had a wonderful stay at the Waldorf A Story. It is in a beautiful location in the small town of Story, WY near Big Horn National Forest. It is the most unique place I have ever stayed with a great history. The owner was very helpful will all of my questions and answered them quickly. I would love to go back sometime.
