|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Whether you plan to celebrate a honeymoon or anniversary, or enjoy a few days of "family time", we welcome you to Casa Cardinal. Rock on the porch, or go for long walks in the woods, then enjoy cooking in a completely outfitted kitchen. Savor the sounds of nature, or watch your favorite games on satellite TV. This is a custom built cabin offering a peaceful retreat! and located, literally, at the end of the road at Mountain Top. As you'll see from the most sweeping porch in the resort, cardinals, hummingbirds, deer and other wood critters appreciate the remoteness, and so will you.
All year 'round, you'll enjoy the ever changing panorama from the porch rockers and swing: spring blooms, summer shade, or cascade of fall color. If you're a winter hiker, you'll return to a roaring fire in the stone fireplace, and a therapeutic soak in the double jacuzzi. Two bedrooms, two baths and a loft - sleeps four adults and 3-4 children comfortably. The decor is comfy without being too frilly, or too "country"... just your "home away from home". The entrance ramp and interior, master bath and bedroom, were built to accommodate guests with mobility restrictions on the first floor. On a rainy afternoon, the upstairs loft provides a comfy reading nook, skylight and a second full bath. Fully furnished for a weekend, or a few weeks, "mi casa es tu casa".
Casa Cardinal is located only a few miles from Callaway Gardens and Warm Springs, and provides a picturesque setting, spacious living, two bedrooms which sleep up to four adults and two children; a kitchen with full sized stove, refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, and all the cooking and eating utensils you’ll need!
Kim, Ali and Stefani invite you to share our take on tranquility.
Kim, Ali and Stefani welcome you to our beloved log cabin and hope you make your own family memories! We three built the cabin to be a place of peace and spirituality-- a place to enjoy nature and one another. Over the years, we have hiked, biked and horseback ridden pretty much all of Callaway Gardens, FDR park, Warm Springs, LaGrange, Westpoint and surrounding countryside. A former military family, we still travel the world, but love to return to Casa Cardinal, to rock on the porch, enjoy the fireplace, play board games and enjoy photography. Now that reliable internet has arrived;-) we particularly enjoy sharing our home-away with other foreign service and military members and their families, teachers, authors & artists,and all who are young at heart or who find the flora and fauna, as well as rich history and outdoors activities in the area, a welcomed change of pace.
KIM M. LEWIS purchased this cabin in 1994
With roots in Atlanta, but a life spent in Florida, Callaway Gardens was a family "stop" along the oft traveled road in-between. On one such stop, to marvel at the Christmas Fantasy of Lights at Callaway Gardens, Kim, Ali and Stefani found Mountain Top Resort was being planned, near FDR park and above Callaway Gardens. We chose the lot literally at the end of road, bordering the forest and brimming with fireflies and birdlife as a place to relax, observe and enjoy nature and our own ever-changing lives. From the start, young Stefani (later an architectural student and designer) had clear ideas as to how to build and furnish our cabin. Over the years, Ali (now a medical student) and Kim also brought items which reflect our international travels and interests, yet fit harmoniously into our simple place. When the girls were small, the surrounding attractions offered safe but beautiful trails for them to explore; as they grew up, the cabin, Callaway and day-trips to Atlanta's great museums, shopping and restaurants made our cabin the perfect place to share with friends. Designed with future accessibility and space utility in mind, we three plan to keep the cabin for decades to come and to continue to enjoy the seasons of our family's life, as much as the panorama of nature's changing annual seasons, at Casa Cardinal. We hope you will do likewise, as our guests.
There are many log cabins sprinkled around Pine Mountain and Warm Springs, but our cabin was one of the first. We situated our cabin to allow for privacy and proximity to woodlands nature. We enjoy morning coffee on the porch, rocking or porch-swinging; and evening wine as the sun sets and the wood fire in the fireplace is started. The downstairs master has a jacuzzi and walk-in shower with a built in seat. Upstairs, the girls' room, has a skylight which often showcases a passing moon, as well as a loft for reading or naps. A metal roof allows just the right amount of soothing patter on the roof when the rains come. It's simple, but cozy and convenient. Internet, cable TV, dishwasher and stackable washer/dryer make the cabin modern. If you like the all white sterility of chain hotels, then our cabin is not for you. If you prefer the peace and quiet, and tasteful colors and textures of nature, then you will find your comfy escape here.
Our family of 5 and dog stayed for almost a month during Feb. The area is beautiful! The cabin was well stocked, comfortable, and the hot tub was amazing! The kitchen sink faucet broke while we were there but was repaired with no issues. We had to leave early for personal reasons and they were great about it. Drive to the cabin was a bit unexpected, steep and winding but we were able to drive it with our van with no problems. Highly recommend!
This is our second stay at this cabin. We love coming here in the Fall as the trees surrounding the cabin this time of year are beautiful. It is so peaceful & quiet. If you enjoy nature, you will love it here. We like to explore the grounds around the cabin, taking hikes in the woods. The cabin is so comfortable & clean! The beds & couch in living area are very comfortable. It is nicely decorated with beautiful pine wood through out. It is a well built cabin. We really enjoy having a nice fire at night when it is cold out. Kim is awesome to work with. She is very accommodating. She will bend over backwards for you to make you comfortable & provide you an enjoyable stay.
We rented the cabin over the Thanksgiving week. It is a spacious cabin in a remote area which is appealing if one wishes to 'get away from it all'. The closest grocer or hospital is about 15 miles from the cabin. Callaway Gardens is closer, about 7 or maybe 8 miles and was the target for some of our activities and Thanksgiving meal. On arrival, we found the bathroom towels to be damp, as if housekeeping had run out of time for our arrival at 4 pm and placed them not fully dry. We put them in the dryer to finish drying completely. The oven was also not cleaned, there was aluminum foil at the bottom to keep it clean, but it had not been replaced and was literally covered in grease. It wasn't until we had turned the oven on that we discovered this, as the smell from the grease revealed the residue. My spouse also said there were 'dust bunnies' beneath the beds and between dressers. She's a stickler for cleanliness in properties we visit. I mention this only to alert the cabin owner that housekeeping could be improved. The area is in a location with other cabins nearby, and neighbors were quiet and time spent on the porches in the day and evening hours allowed a lot of solitude and peace with nature. We saw deer and even wild turkeys in the early mornings. In Warm Springs, a town nearby is The Bulloch House, and meals there are recommendable, as are deserts from the bakery associated with it. There are some nice shops to browse in town as well. Callaway Gardens is certainly a spot to visit, expect that you could spend an entire day or more to see it. There are plenty of hiking trails and vistas in FDR State Park, which the community in which the cabin is located must abutt. For those who must stay in contact with the outside world the cabin's remote location will present a problem. Unless we were out on the porch (and even this was hit-or-miss) our iPhones showed no service and the internet in the cabin was very sporadic, necessitating reconnection to the wireless router often. Television is basic from Direct TV and the major channels from Atlanta are provided.
I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Casa Cardinal 11/2/2016-11/10/2016. It was peak Fall foliage season and the leaves were stunning.
Kim's cabin was beyond my expectations in every respect. It has everything a person could possibly need. She takes optimum pride in her property and gives attention to every detail.
Rent it and you'll be blessed!
Miramar Beach, Florida
We recently stayed at Casa Cardinal in Warm Springs, GA. What a treat! The cabin was clean, comfortable and very well equiped. You never know what will be available in a private home. This place had everything we needed. The owner, Kim, promptly answered any questions we had and gave us tips on other activities in the area as well as restaurants to try. The cabin was located within a few minutes of the Gardens in a very tranquil setting. We will most definitely stay there again!
Ft. Benning and Columbus are 35 miles south of the Cabin ; ATL and all that Atlanta offers approx. one and half hours north from the cabin! Fifteen minutes to Callaway Gardens and Pine Mountain to the West; Fifteen minutes to Warm Springs and the FDR's Little White House to the East; five minutes into FDR State Park.
