Why Georgianna Strode chose Florida

This house was originally my great-grandmother's. It was built in 1932 in Quincy, Florida and was moved to Lake Talquin in the 1960s. My grandparents lived there and they loved it! They had an organic garden for decades. Granddaddy made unique items in his shop and Grandma landscaped the property.

What makes this house unique

This house has much of the original charm -- the 5-panel doors, original door handles, hardwood floors -- the original farm kitchen sink is still there but it's moved to the utility room.

Everything better than we could have hoped for.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has a perfect location for anyone desiring prolonged rest, quiet, and beautiful surroundings in terms of the lake and trees. Although it rained non-stop for three days, we enjoyed being snug indoors, reading, eating, talking, and watching DVDs. The location is about 30 minutes from Tallahassee, FL but there are infinite number of options for restaurants in the city. The cottage is very well equipped, along with unexpected perks left in the refrigerator by the owners. Comfortable couches and lounge chairs, and beds. Will definitely return!

Wonderful Property

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Lake Talquin. This bungalow is much bigger than it looks, very spacious and well appointed.

The kitchen had everything a cook might need, plus a fun collection of vintage Corning ware and mason jars, as well as a good collection of functional cast iron cookware.

The beds were comfortable, outdoor seating was plentiful and the indoor spaces are lovely.

Our group had adults, dogs and a 5 year old and we were all happy with the home and the lake and the yard.

We caught fish off the dock, saw turtles and alligators, cardinals and white squirrels. I would go back in a heartbeat and heartily recommend it for a relaxing vacation or a special weeek-end.

A Taste Of Old Florida

  • 5 of 5

I can only agree with all the other 4 and 5 star ratings. I am a 68 year old Native Floridian and this home reminded me of my lake front home at Winter Garden which is no longer standing. My wife and I enjoyed the quiet and simple pleasure of just sitting on the porch or dock.

Keep and eye out for the white squirrels!! We saw at least 3. Caught many Channel Catfish and lots of Blue Gill which we released. We enjoyed a day of antiquing in Havana.

ENJOY !

Owner's Response: Glad the fish were biting! Thanks for sending the close-up photos of the white squirrels -- we will try to put one on the website and/or frame one for the house for future guests. We appreciate the kind words on the property and hope you can visit again.

Tranquility on Talquin

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage was everything our family could have hoped for. The property was clean, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. It is a great location, making treks to Tallahassee and the many state parks in the panhandle region very easy.
