About Katerina papa

I am from Limassol originally but my Grandmother was actually born in Lefkara village, so many childhood holidays were spent here! I studied languages in the UK, Spain and Belgium before returning home to Cyprus. I have worked as a translator and teacher as well as in publishing before joining YNA International to create YNA Cyprus Villas.

When not working, I love walking my dog, spending time with friends and family and of course (I am Cypriot after all!) cooking and baking for lots of people!

Why Katerina papa chose Pano Lefkara

It's a beautiful and romantic building built around 1910. It is a great base for a relaxing break in this gorgeous village

Such a nice holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had such a good time at this place. Came there in Febuary 2009 for 10 days to celebrate my fathers birthday. Unfortunately the weather was quite cold and rainy. But the house was nice and cosy, so we could cook together, read, talk, sit in front of the fireplace, watch films or enjoy the Yakuzzi-Area. During the sunny days there was so much to see - Cyprus is really fascinating!

A little hint: A bigger frying-pan in the kitchen would be great ;o)!

Red Door - A lovely villa

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Red Door for a week at the end of May 2016.

It was an enjoyable week and the villa is lovely. We had a 5 year old and a 3 year old with us and it was slightly challenging that the bedrooms open straight onto the courtyard (and therefore the swimming pool) i.e. there is no interconnecting door. The pool is big enough to cool the grown ups down and for the children to jump into endlessly.

The kitchen is surprisingly spacious and we even managed to seat 8 around the table when our friends called in on us for a meal.

The parking space is a little way from the villa, but it is shaded for most of the day so the car didn't get too hot.

We were met on arrival, even though it was late evening and all of our contact with the owners was relaxed and positive.

We had a great time at the RedDoor over Easter including looking for Easter eggs and celebrating the Easter vigil in the church of Lefkara. A great experience. Lefkara village is really lovely and a good starting point for exploring the whole island. The house is tastefully furnished. Our kids mostly enjoyed the Jacuzzi. Nevertheless, heavily disappointing was that the announced 210 sqm are obviously including the pool area. The indoor living quarters are approximately 130 sqm. The description on this is misleading.

Beautiful residence!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place if you are looking for peaceful days spent in one of Cyprus' most attractive traditional villages. Lefkara is perfect if you are mobile and interested in getting to know Cyprus (and not just its beaches). Both the Red Door and Blue Door (we stayed in both) are exceptionally comfortable, very clean, and decorated with taste and sensibility. The owner and caretaker were both wonderful and very friendly: they welcomed us as their guests and made sure we were always happy and satisfied. This is Cyprus as it should be!

lovely place in a nice mountain village

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Red Door Apt. for few days recently; can highly recommend this place, also, for a longer stay, if you love silence and village life. Also, very convenient place if you come from Larnaca airport.

Villa decoration is special. Would come again, definitely.

Lefkara is arguably the most famous village in Cyprus. This picturesque village is located on the Southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains in the Larnaca district. Made up of two separate areas Pano and Kato Lefkara, today there are around 1100 inhabitants.

During the Venetian period, Lefkara was a popular holiday destination for the nobles and visitors to the village today will notice the Venetian-style architecture of the houses and narrow cobbled streets. Lefkara is best known for its silver filigree and lace making and in fact “Lefkaritika” lace work features on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. As the story goes, a certain Mr Da Vinci visited the village during the Venetian period and was so impressed by the lace work that he bought a large piece of it which he eventually donated as an altar cloth to Milan Cathedral!

Other famous visitors include the Apostles Paul and Barnabas who passed through the village en-route to Paphos where they converted the Roman Governor to Christianity. At the spot where they are believed to have stopped to rest a water spring appeared which can still be seen today.

Modern-day visitors can visit the spring, as well as the impressive Church of the Holy Cross and a medieval chapel built into the walls of what is now a hotel! The ladies of Lefkara still sit outside their homes working on their lace-work and there is also a workshop making traditional silverware. The village is home as well to a family business that has produced award-winning “loukoumi” or Cyprus Delight for generations!

Walkers and cyclist are spoiled for choice with some great trails in the area and everyone will enjoy exploring the winding cobbled alleys at the heart of the village. There are a number of traditional coffee shops and taverns in the village and in recent years some funky little cafes and bars that attract a younger crowd. There are small supermarkets, a pharmacy and ATM’s in the village as well as doctors, dentists and hairdressers. A ten-minute drive down the hill just off the main Limassol-Larnaca highway there is a large Alfa-Mega supermarket and fast food outlet.

Lefkara lies inland and is a 27-minute drive from Governor’s Beach where you can also find some very good restaurants. The fishing village of Zigi is 23-minutes by car and a great choice for a fresh fish meze. The city of Larnaca lies 32 minutes’ drive to the East and Limassol 39 minutes to the West.
