About Amir zavala

We have been married for 18 years. We have one daughter who loves animals. Our cat socks never visits the cottage but our dog Diamond will occasionally visit the fount pouch of the cottage. He does not go in due to allergies of family members.

Amir zavala purchased this house in 1930

Why Amir zavala chose Ayden

This home was saved from demolition in 2010. The railing and woodwork on the front known as gingerbread was saved from the oldest house in Ayden that burned down a few years ago. The home that burned down was from 1891 we do not know how old the wood work is only that is old.

What makes this house unique

We love the sound of rain on the tin roof. We were able to reconfigure the home making it very user friendly.

Not big but still adequate for a family of 7. Was mostly here for nights and showers. Would come again.

Great House for Families

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this property. This was a perfect house for our family of 6 adults and 2 babies. Everyone had plenty of room. The house is very clean and in great shape with some recent updates. It's located on a beautiful street in a safe neighborhood. The listing was completely accurate. The owner was quick to respond to any questions we had about the house. We will definitely stay at this house again if we are back in the area.

Fresh flowers and a basket full of snacks greeted us in this extremely clean, cute cottage! It was perfect for our family who were all there for my son's graduation from his Surgical Residency. Three bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths and everything you would need to make meals, etc. (We didn't have any meals there, unfortunately) Wish we could have met the owner but we were only there for sleeping. Our only dislike was the small shower, but we learned to take Marine showers;) We would highly recommend this property to anyone!!

If you don't mind being watched, then this is for you.

So after the owners showed up not one, not two, not three, but 4 times unannounced within the first week, that was enough for me and my guests to leave early. I mean, don’t rent out the house if you are that paranoid. Also, they expect you to take off your shoes when you enter the house. No exceptions. They also kept $90 of my security deposit to “rebuff” the old wood floors. We only slept there late at night and left early each day, except one day when we actually cooked dinner there only to have the owner show up, walk in and sit down for half an hour, uninvited. She constantly asked what type of work we were doing, who was sleeping in what bed, and with who and she wanted to make sure “no sex trafficking was going on". She even asked me if two of the men sharing a room were brothers (this is NC) before we arrived when I told her 5 men were staying there….even though it’s advertised to sleep 8. Enough is enough. I was going to just let it go until she actually kept part of my security deposit for walking on the floors, and breaking a wine glass, that she must have dug through the garbage to retrieve. I would keep driving to Greenville or Kinston. We had much better experiences there. I like to be left alone when I rent a place. Not get harassed constantly and feel like I am being intergated. Skip it.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry to read Tommy uncomplimentary review. Not only because it disappointing when someone is unhappy without home but also because hi review, which is a dramatic read features false complaints. If you are a prospective guest’s, please read our response to Tommy claims which we believe puts his complaints into context. We are confident that we provide small town hospitality in a safe, reasonable priced and comfortable rental home. : Our response to Tommy: We do not “Watch” our guest. Full time work keeps us busy and out daughter is in school daily. I had one single interact with Tommy and his party during a twenty day stay! In the first week of his stay in which he claims I was an unwelcome visitor 4 times. I was in Ohio on vacation with my Mom and daughter. Rules and condition of rental stipulate that people staying on the property must be listed on the reservation. This is for security purposes and is a well-established requirement. Yes, our home can sleep eight people, all we ask is that guest honestly list who will be sleeping in the rental house, something Tommy did not do. Due to the extended length of stay, I offered a free cleaning service, agreed and arranged by email at the time of reservation. Initially scheduled for April 1st, it was changed via email to a mutually agreed date of April 4th due to my Ohio trip. At absolutely no charge, Tommy received a light housecleaning and all towels and bedding for 5 guests were washed! Just like any hotel/rental we have rules regarding excessive damage. It is regrettable that Tommy seems to think he was charged for a broken wine glass which is outlandish and not true! The damage to the floors was I the form of extreme gouging. It went far beyond normal wear and tear which is of course expected. Tommy was not charged less than 40% of his deposit was asked to be withdrawn from his security deposit to cover the cost of fixing the floor. This repair will cost time, equipment rental and loss of income. I take offense to Tommy insinuation that myself or my family is homophobic in any way due to the state we live in! We are absolutely not! We are a muti-racial family who moved to N. C. from Brooklyn, NY and we do not hold prejudice based on sexual orientation! It is sad that Tommy had to invent ill-meaning behind a regular small chat in which he offered up the suggestion that if futon was uncomfortable for 20 days two brothers traveling with him might choose to bunk together.

This was our first time renting a VRBO property and it was truly a great experience. The cottage was immaculate clean, and it was located in a safe area. The owner was very kind and communicated via e-mail and by phone promptly, she provided service and information with a friendly and warm attitude. I will for sure tell all our friends and relatives about this cozy cottage in North Carolina. Thank you.

Family Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this property December 2015. Unfortunately, we were in town for a funeral. I chose this property because of the location to both Greenville and Kinston. Also because it allowed for more family members to stay over, we had a total of 8 people one night. The home was clean and prepared for a nice relaxing stay. The owners were responsive, although very little is needed when staying here.

Thank you Aimee and Amir for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home during our time of bereavement.
