Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in South Haven - Beautiful Home Near Lakeshore

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

The main unit which you will rent is a three bedroom two bath custom built house in a unique and desirable setting situated near Lake Michigan on five wooded acres. Just nine miles South of Douglas/Saugatuck this home is comfortable and an easy access point to all the region has to offer.

The lower level has a separate entry and is occupied by myself in the summer.

The home is bright and sunny with Anderson wood windows and heated wood floors. There three comfortable well appointed bedrooms upstairs and an additional full size bed, kitchenette and bathroom on the lower level. The Master Bedroom has a queen size sleigh bed and a sliding glass door to the deck, an attached bathroom with a shower and laundry. The second bedroom has two twin beds and the third a full size bed with a small adjoining office space.

This property provides a great access point to the Michigan Lakeshore and everything it has to offer including beaches, dining and summer events in South Haven and Saugatuck in a comfortable setting.

The home has large windows throughout and is very bright inside during the daytime. The back deck has a comfortable reclining deck chair and a round iron table with chairs and an umbrella.

We have a large back yard with a fire pit and benches, so if you want to stay at home and grill steaks, or make s'mores this is an excellent place.

The home is situated on five acres and has mowed walking trails into the timber. The Glenn Beach is a 5 minute drive and the lake is 6/10 of a mile as the crow flies. Other nearby beaches include Pier Cove, Oval Beach to the North, and to the South there are the beautiful South Haven Beaches The property is very close to several entrances to the Wau-Ke-Na William Erby Smith Nature Preserve which offers access to some breathtaking scenery and undiscovered access to the lake.

There is a lot of wildlife in the area: Whitetail deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, red fox and various species of songbirds can often be seen out the living room window.

There is free wifi internet, a 40" flat screen TV with an antenna and local stations. We also have a DVD player. If you like music there is a nice FIshcher turntable a Rotel receiver with Sansui speakers and a nice collection of LP records.

Keys: You will receive two keys upon check in which is after 4PM if there are parties checking out on the same day you are arriving. If not, the check in time is 3PM. Checkout time is 11AM. Special arrangements for late checkout can only be made upon request after arrival. An additional night will be charged if guests do not checkout by 12PM.

You will be sent an email after booking with directions. WiFi instructions will be given upon arrival.

Cleanliness: Parties agree that the home is in acceptable condition: furnishings are in acceptable condition, the home has been cleaned appropriately, sheets and linens are clean and acceptable, AC and other appliances are in good working order and the home is free of any offensive odors. If you arrive and find the premises in unacceptable condition or that there have been any misrepresentations or omissions then you may elect to cancel your reservation and will be given a full refund.

Occupancy: The maximum occupancy is 6 people for the upstairs . If the occupancy exceeds this level then you will loose your deposit. If you are just renting a room in the upstairs then the occupancy limit is 2 persons.

Parking: We have a two car garage. One controller will be given to you at check in. No more than three vehicles should be on the premises at one time. If you are just renting the upstairs or a room then I will use the garage myself.

Guest Bathroom Shower: The guest bathroom shower is activated by pulling down on the ring on the tub spout (Where the water comes out into the tub).

Gas Range: Use the gas range with caution and make sure all burners are turned off when leaving the property and when not in use. It is sometimes hard to see the flames when the sun is shinning.

Water and Septic: The property is on a well and septic systems. The mineral content in the water is high. The water is also on a water softener. The kitchen is equipped with a water fountain hooked up to a Culligan filter. During a drought, the well water may have a sulfur odor. The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper. No feminine products should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that feminine products have been flushed and clog the septic system.

Noise Levels: Remember this is a residential area so we must respect the local noise ordinances and we value our neighbor as you do.

Pets: We have a no pet policy. Anyone found to violate that policy will be charged for any damages caused by the pet and you will loose your security deposit.

Access: Guest shall allow Homeowner access to the property for purposes of repair and inspection.

About Steve Olson

I'm a part time school teacher and real estate investor.

Steve Olson purchased this house in 1998

Why Steve Olson chose Southwest Michigan

We built this home in 1998 as a country home. It has pine wood floors, radiant floor heat, and was built in an environmentally friendly way with Anderson wood windows, paper insulation instead of fiberglass.

The location is optimal because it is between downtown South Haven and Saugatuck and provides an easy access point to both without a long drive in either direction.

What makes this house unique

The property has a lot of deck space, outdoor dining, a grill and a fire pit.

Places to Visit to the North of 1334 Blue Star Highway Vacation Rental:

Wau-Ke-Na #1.

This is not a beach but has some really nice walking trails.

Head north on Blue Star and when the road starts to curve turn left onto 70th St

Destination will be a few tenths of a mile and on the left.

Wau-Ke-Na #2:

This is a wonderful trail down to the beach. A little hard to find but worth it. A great place for a picnic and a hike the kids can handle. From Wau-Ke-Na #1 continue North on 70th St. for about 2.5 miles. There is a sign and a small entry just before you get to the Plummerville Cemetery. If you get to the cemetery you’ve gone a little to far to the North.

Pier Cove:

From Wau-Ke-Na #2 continue North until you get to Pier Cove on the West Side of the road. Nice beach with lots of white beach glass.

Direct Route to Pier Cove:.

Directions: From US31, take the Fennville exit (M-89). Head West toward Lake Michigan. At the T, take a left (south) and drive to another stop. Take a right (west) and go around the curve. Pier Cove is about 25 feet down the road on the Lake side (right). There are about 10 parking spaces.

Oval Beach (Saugatuck):

Head North on Blue Star until you get to Douglas. Turn left on Center at the four way stop and follow signs to beach and Mt. Baldy. Mt. Baldy is a long stairway to the top of Mt. Baldy. A good workout. The Oval Beach turn is before this. The lot is often full so you may want to arrive early.

Douglas Beach:

Head North on Blue Star until you get to Douglas. Turn left on Center and go .7 miles till you get to Lakewood and turn right. Douglas Beach is huge and the parking is free.

Rentals: There is a place at the intersection of Center/Ferry on the way to both Douglas and Oval beaches that rents and delivers gear: chairs paddle boards etc.

Saugatuck Dunes:

This is a huge park with a lot of good walking trails and lots of privacy when you get to the beach. Be prepared for a moderate hike in both directions. To get there take 196 North 11 miles to exit 41 and then turn right on 64th St. for 1.1 miles, then left on 138th for .8 miles.

They also Dune Rides that are reported to be ‘fun and interesting’. More at: http://www.saugatuckduneride.com/_index.php

I’m told the kids like the Outdoor Discovery Center. I remember how gorgeous the elk is. It walks up to the fence and you can pet it it it likes you. http://www.yelp.com/biz/outdoor-discovery-center-holland

Area Dining

Farmhouse Deli: 9AM-7PM Daily has really good organic salads and other choices. 100 Blue Star Highway on the left just before Center Street.

Everyday People on Center Street in Douglas is open for dinner. Good burgers and atmosphere.

I've also heard that the Southerner in Saugatuck is a good place to eat but never been there.

To get to Saugatuck continue North on Blue Star Highway from Douglas and turn left when you see the sign. I like the Tea Party Café for a great choice of Teas on Water Street. Its in the same building as the Mermaid Restaurant. Uncommon Grounds is a great coffee house and is a block from the Tea Party Café.

The Butler is also good for a full meal and you’ll see signs as your going into town. If you want to hear live music on Friday or Saturday you can go to the Butler Tiki Bar which is outside.

If you want a fancy but affordable meal with good service I recommend the Clearbrook Golf Club. To get there go past the turn to Saugatuck and continue North on Blue Star until you see the State Police station and turn right on Clearbrook. They have endless salads when you order a dinner entrée.

Salt of the Earth Café in Fennville is open for dinner and is supposed to have a reputation for ‘farm to table’ ingredients. To get there head North on Blue Star and follow the signs for Fennville.

Places to Visit to the South of 1334 Blue Star Highway Vacation Rental:

Casco County Park: A new paved walking park with access to a wonderful long beach. Only 3.1 miles South of the property on the right side.

North South Haven Beaches: A huge beach that stretches several miles to the North. The further North you go the better the beach glass hunting is. After a big storm you find a lot of it. At the round about turn right continue until you have gone 7.8 miles from the house where you’ll see a sign Newcomb Beach which is an excellent spot to find beach glass if you walk to the North. Continue south until your tachometer is showing 8.3 where you will find Packard Park and Beach. This is a very popular beach with great views of the lighthouse.

After leaving Packard Beach go south for about a block and turn left at Dychman Rd and follow that across the drawbridge, just before you get to the drawbridge you’ll see the Maritime Museum on your right. They offer sailings on Friends of the Goodwill. A sailing ship built in 1810 that was in the War of 1812. For more: http://www.michiganmari
