Breathtaking 7 acres farm 25 km away from Porto’s beautiful historic centre

The slow pace of life in the Vale dos Amores region will make it easy to slow down and relax. Vale dos Amores is a 7 acres farm overlooking the Douro river surrounded by beautiful gardens, cultivated land and pines and eucalypt woods, 25 km away from Porto’s beautiful historic centre and Gaia’s beaches. Vale dos Amores farm house is a comfortable XIX century regional house, recently rebuilt respecting the traditional construction materials. Vale dos Amores farm house is completely furnished and equipped with all the necessary utensils. The house is at 15 minutes distance of reasonable good restaurants as well as a big supermarket and local shops. There are also street markets in specific week days. If you come during the summer time you will probably see village festas with their traditional religious processions. All in all Vale dos Amores is ideal for a family, a couple or a group of friends to have a relaxing getaway whilst experiencing traditional Portuguese surroundings!

Oporto Golf Club 28km away : Oporto Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Portugal. It was inaugurated in 1890 and its first President was Charles Neville Skeffington. The course is a par 71, 5,668 metres long, beginning with a par 4 against the famous nortada, the prevailing north wind, which makes it rather difficult. The approach to the green, which is narrow and doubletiered, turns this first hole into an excellent test for any player.

Although holes 4 and l1 are the most difficult ones, the par-4 7th and par-3 14th to be the best that can be designed in terms of golf. The 9th and 18th, normally offer good opportunities for birdies, making a pleasant finish to a competition. In a superb atmosphere which is possible only among the traditionally hospitable people from the North of the country, the Oporto Club offers excellent facilities in its clubhouse, with a restaurant that is a general favourite of its members for eating out.

About Francisco Maia

The Vale dos Amores Farm hasn’t bought it has been in my wife’s family for many generations. In the last few years me and my wife have focussed our efforts in rebuilding this precious family heritage. My wife has very strong connections with this piece of land and since my retirement we have been trying to push this project further and further. My personal roots are a little bit more upstream in the Régua region, where the grapes to make Porto wine are grown. That means that we have a big natural element has connection: the Douro River! To help us with our project we have decided to rent the house. We have been renting the house for a few years now and it has been a very rewarding experience sharing this special place with other families. It’s always comforting to hear the guest’s comments on their arrival to the farm. It makes us feel that we are on the right track! We have been living in Porto area during our married life, therefore we have a good understanding of the region as well as the localities nearby. We try our best to help guests feel welcomed and well guided.

Why Francisco Maia chose Porto area

The Vale dos Amores Farm came to us as a family heritage. We decided to invest our savings in this piece of land because it always felt to be a very unique place! We started by rebuilding the farmer house, while doing so we have tried to respect the traditional architecture and local materials. After the house was finished we started to devote our attention to the 7 acres of terrain around the house. Each year our garden gets a little bigger… with more persimmon, orange, peach, lemon, apple trees, palm trees, chestnuts, oaks, pines, camellias, roses, and many others... It’s a lot of work but at the same is very rewarding as well! There is a sense of peace every time we look around us and can see our green scenery framed by the Douro River.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I think that what most impresses our guests is the scenery around the house as well as the amplitude felling we can offer our guest. Plus in my opinion there is one outstanding key element that Vale dos Amores Farm offers to our guests: you will be sufficiently faraway from Porto downtown buzz and at the same time you will be just a few kilometres away from it. What I mean by this is that you can visit the touristic wine cellars in the morning and in the afternoon you can be relaxing under the porch.

Quiet & Relaxing

This was a beautifully maintained property. The secluded location was perfect for a quite family holiday. (Children 7 & 3) The owners were incredibly helpful and showed us around the local town highlighting where to shop etc. They also provided lots of information on sights in Porto. The house was clean and well equipped. The garden was lovely and a delight for the children to run around. We would highly recommend this villa.

Unique, beautiful, relaxing.

The property is beautiful. A bit tricky to reach but definitely worth the visit. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The property is vast and has multiple gardens and terraces. Really worth visiting.

Vacaciones ideales

Pasamos unos días espectaculares en Vale dos Amores. Vacaciones ideales para visitar a la vez que relajas. Desde allí visitamos Oporto, Guimaraes y Aveiro.

La casa es muy bonita, está muy bien preparada, la piscina ideal especialmente para los niños y la finca es inmensa. Puedes pasear sin salir de allí.

Ana nos ofreció una gran ayuda al explicárnoslo todo: sitios para visitar, donde poder aparcar, lugares para comer...cómo salir fácilmente y orientarse, pues el primer día es complicado llegar y parece difícil, pero con sus explicaciones e incluso acompañándonos a situarnos, nos resultó muy fácil. Estaba siempre dispuesta a ayudar en lo que necesitábamos.

Al viajar de esta forma, conocimos lugares de Portugal que de otra manera no hubiésemos visitado.

Fueron unas vacaciones inolvidables.

Great find on the Douro River

Three couples decided that after we left the city of Barcelona (staying in the city for 6 days) we would like something outside of Porto for the next week. We were very happy about making that decision after arriving at Vale dos Amores. A beautiful farmhouse that certainly had everything you needed and was clean, comfortable and beautifully done. Don't let the distance from Porto scare you as it was a nice drive into Porto and we made a couple of day trips there as well as other areas on the Douro River. In the evening we would come back to relax and cook dinner enjoying the peace and quiet. Ana and her family were delightful and could not have been more helpful. If you book for a vacation make sure you meet their dog, Snow!! We would definitely book again and highly recommend Vale dos Amores.

A very pleasant place to rest and a nice house

La maison est très propre, il ne manque rien pour très agréable séjour de vacances. Pour un repos total, le site, au milieu des bois et a deux pas du Douro, est enchanteur.

Ana isabela et ses parents sont des hôtes tout a fait charmants et au petit soin. Ils fleurissent le jardin et entretiennent les abords de la maison pour en faire un environnement exceptionnel.

Seul (petit) bémol : le dernier kilomètre pour parvenir jusqu'à la maison est un peu compliqué (Même Mr GPS hésite), ça se mérite... mais le bonheur est au bout !


The house is very clean, nothing is missing for a very enjoyable holiday. For total relaxation, the site, surrounded by woods and at a stone's throw from the Douro, is enchanting.

Ana Isabela and her parents are quite charming hosts and very attentive. They bloom and maintain the garden around the house to make it an exceptional environment.

Only (minor) complaint: the last mile to get to the house is a bit complicated (Even Mr GPS hesitate)...it must be earned ... and happiness is at the end!

The farm house has: •3 bedrooms (2 bedrooms with couple beds and 1 bedroom with two single beds). •2 bathrooms with shower. •A large dinning and living room, with TV and big dining table. •A kitchen with 4 gas hobs, fridge freezer, microwave together with smaller kitchen appliances. •A porch, ideal for outdoor meals. •An ancient wine making room that also serves to park the car. •A small swimming pool. •And other divisions for farming material storage. •Fields that are being cultivated for agriculture (we are starting a blue berries plantation and we already have olive trees, orange trees, apple trees among others) and another series of fields with pines and eucalyptus.
