FROM A LONG TIME RENTER:

I have been going to Sapphire Beach for about 20 years. It is my guaranteed good weather, fun getaway on an annual basis. I’ve mostly stayed at one of the Parkes’ condominiums either at the beach or overlooking the harbor (a short, pleasant walk from the beach). The condos themselves are beautiful and well-furnished in tasteful island décor, made the more so by Barbara, co-hostess. The kitchen, baths and master suite are to die for and can accommodate the guests with two separate sleep sofas as well, if needed.

The beach itself is clean, white sand with an expansive view of the entire bay, the ships and St John, a short ferry ride away (for down-home shopping and snorkeling and dining treats). There is great snorkeling right at Sapphire as well. The Sapphire Beach community also has a sport hut for snorkel gear and fish food. There is ample food and drink accessibility through the Banana Cabana which makes sunning the more enjoyable on chaises by the water or under the row of shade trees. You can relax at either venue easily and comfortably. Or you can use the pool between the beach and the harbor if you prefer. It is equally lovely and the island breezes keep you refreshed, along with the occasional dip in either the pool or the sea.

I also treasure the day sail and fishing adventures from the local boats at the harbor there. They range from hosting two people to dozens of guests, depending on size of the boat, but all are enjoyable. Meals and drinks are served on board, and some take you through the British Virgin Islands to view the “Baths” on Virgin Gorda or to the famous “Soggy Dollar” seaside bar.

Then too, just down the hill, is the local town of Red Hook which boasts great dining, shopping (not crowded as it is in downtown Charlotte Amalie) and a huge fishing boat harbor. All in all, Sapphire Beach is ideal for a vacation and is ideally located. I love it and am headed back again in November. Can’t wait.

DETAILS: This totally renovated, 1100 square foot, 2 story, corner unit, condo with wrap around balcony on each floor. The unit is located in the B building. Only 50' to the best part of Sapphire Beach for swimming. Your view is spectacular from the private balconies. Your view includes St. John, Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, Hans Lollick, and several cays. Most special is the colors of the crystal clear sapphire blue water.

The lower floor has a full kitchen, with a convection microwave oven, sitting area, bar, flat screen TV, queen sleep sofa, full bath.

The top floor features wood cathedral ceilings. There is a new king size bed, TV, a sitting area with a queen size sleep sofa, desk and full bath.

The unit has central air conditioning, cable, ceiling fans, wi-fi, and a nearby multi level pool.

A fully equipped dive shop has snorkel gear, they can arrange scuba excursions, offer floats, windsurfing lessons, and kayak rentals. You can also enjoy a game of beach volleyball on the sandy beach.

The marina at Sapphire Beach offers day cruises including snorkeling excursions, trips to the BVI, and deep-sea fishing. You have a choice of power, or sail boats. You can also rent a jet ski or go parasailing.

Restaurants nearby offer everything from Italian, Mexican, fresh fish, pub food, and local favorites Marina Market in Red Hook is conveniently located and there is also a supermarket (The Food Center) further down the road where you can find a wider selection.

If you don't want to leave the beach, there is also a small refreshment stand between buildings B&C at Sapphire serving hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, soft drinks, beer and tropical drinks(hours: 11AM-4PM).

Sapphire Grill located at Sapphire Village is a short walk away.

Golfing enthusiasts can play at nearby Mahogany Run, and challenge the 'devils triangle'.

WE BOUGHT THE CONDO FOR HER TO LIVE IN WHILE WORKING AT THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS HOSPITAL. HOWEVER, JUST BEFORE HER MOVE TO USVI SHE HAD AN ASTHMA ATTACK THAT TOOK HER LIFE, AT THE AGE OF 32. IN HER MEMORY OUR WHOLE FAMILY DECIDED TO KEEP THE PLACE AND ENJOY THE AREA SHE LOVED.

OUR CONDOS ARE BEAUTIFULLY RENOVATED, 50' FROM THE BEACH (AND ANOTHER 50' FROM THE HARBOR), LARGE WRAP AROUND PORCHES, GLASS TOP PATIO TABLES, DINE AT THE BEACH, VIEWING THE BEACH OR IN THE CONDOS.

We have been to many tropical beach vacations, but this one trumped them all. We absolutely fell in love with Sapphire Beach. Great sand for building sand castles, large level beach, and crystal clear water for swimming and snorkeling. The small tropical fish were gorgeous and plentiful – we even saw sea turtles grazing on the sea grass. The views from the beach were spectacular. We also enjoyed watching the boats coming in and out of the marina.

The condo was beautifully decorated, extremely clean and well equipped with everything we could possibly need. It was a home away from home.

We stayed for a week and definitely could have stayed longer… many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Great family stay!

Overall, staying in this property was a great experience. The beach is beautiful in front of this unit and you will have most of what you need on site. A couple of things I wish I had known prior to booking was that there is construction going on at the property ( August 2016). This is in building B, but the neighboring building C had major construction going on during our visit, so all day you heard heavy machinery at work, found nails and screws on the walkways and in parking lot and it was generally an eye sore. As a side note, I don't know if it's related to the construction or not, but the tap water sometimes ran a slightly brown color. Also, when we had neighbors, you could hear them perfectly from upstairs, but not downstairs in the unit.

Also, we had a coffee maker but no filters, a dishwasher but no dish detergent and there were no blankets for the foldout beds upon our arrival. I emailed the property owner and by the 2nd day, two blankets were delivered.

It was very convenient to have snorkel equipment, beach towels and lounge chairs included in our stay. There is some good snorkeling to be done on this little beach. I would suggest the owners provide a cooler of some sort so that guests going out for excursions can make and take food with them since that's one of the benefits of staying in a villa.

Other than the above, this unit was well appointed and comfortable for our stay. For a family vacation, I would consider staying here again.

Beautiful condo and beach

This condo was amazing. Not only was it right on the beach but the amenities were fantastic. Everything was immaculate. A/C worked great for the hot days (when not lounging on the beach). The kitchen had everything I have at home so cooking in was easy. So close to great restaurants, bars, and market in Redhook. We will definitely be going back to this unit in the future.

AWESOME PLACE!!

I'm sorry i'm just getting to write my review. This condo is perfect in every way!! This is a very very clean and comfortable 2 story condo. There are 2 balcony's, 1 off the main floor and another on the top floor, which is a wrap around. The top patio is great for early mornings and star gazing and night. ( i had several naps sneak up on me on that to patio). Though i didn't really get to enjoy the condo as much as i wished because i had so much fun enjoying the beach and hopping a cab down the street to Red Hook area for drinks and fun. My girlfriend and I plan to rent this unit again very soon. I 'm looking forward to staying in this unit again.

Great views and very comfortable!

The condo was all we asked for. Spacious enough for 4 adults, and the 2 bathrooms were wonderful. The upstairs bed is very comfortable. Being right on the beach was terrific, and the snorkeling was excellent! The condo was clean and fully appointed with everything one needs to live away from home. Would not hesitate to return.

I was disappointed of the property.

After reading all the previous glowing reviews, I had high expectations. The views from the balcony were great. The condo and most of the furnitures are in good conditions, but I was disappointed of several factors.

1. For the rental amount I paid, I would expect to be provided with shampoo. There was no shampoo and I had to go to Red Hook the first night to buy some. The inconvenience of having to go buy it bothered me more than the cost. I also got yelled at by my wife because I had reassured her that the property would provide it. I had actually asked the owner this question 2 weeks prior to my arrival, but I did not received an answer until the day I arrived. The owner actually said there would be shampoo provided, but there was not.

2. Both sofa beds were airbeds, but they are both broken. I could not hook the airpump to the bed in the lower level to pump it up. For the one on the upper level. I could pump it up, but the valve is broken and it would leak as soon as you take out the pump. The bed would stay firm for less than 1 minutes. Slept on the soft springy bed caused me to have severe neck pain.

3. There was no blanket for the sofa bed.

4. The air-conditioners are preset at a very narrow temperatures. The one in the lower level would turn off in the middle of the day at a preset time. I could not readjust the ACs because they required a code.

Owner's Response: It is clear that I need to address the claims made by this renter. He is correct that I missed an email he sent. It simply got lost in the pile. The guest was also sending messages through two different VRBO accounts and that added to the confusion.. I had previously answered many questions from this guest. It is correct that the cleaning service no longer supplies shampoo. What is incorrect is the condition of our home! First I will address the air mattresses. The renter did not replace the caps on the air mattresses after filling them. There is no way to contain the air without the cap. The on sight staff are very familiar with these beds. They could have helped the renter if he had contacted them. I could have helped if he had contacted me. Neither happened. Second, the air conditioning. The same day that this renter checked out, we had another guest check in. The new guest let me know that there was an air conditioning problem and we had it repaired the same day. Again, this renter did not tell me, or the on site staff, that there was a problem with the air conditioner. So, now we as owners, are left with this blemish on VRBO. Please look beyond this renter to the many other glowing reviews we have. This is our part-time home. We have high expectations for our home. We have those same exceptions for when you stay at our home.
