About Ann Palmer

I am a private owner living in England but who loves France and the way of life. John and I visit the cottages several times a year to ensure all is going well and to have a lovely time there ourselves and with our family. I spend a lot of time painting while I am there and John looks after the maintenance. We are both retired doctors though when we boght the cottages we were very busy now we have more time to enjoy our lovely home.

Ann Palmer purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Ann Palmer chose Indre-et-Loire

We were bowled over when we saw this lovely house; it was in a poor state but with great potential. We spent a year lovingly restoring the cottage to imaculate condition. It is on priome position in the village with the bar across the road and excellent shipping facilities beyond the church which is next to the cottage. There is also a playground for children and a lake for quiet walks and picnics, also fishing. The village is very close to Chenonceau, the most visited chateau after Versailles. A short walk takes you to the river and you can walk alingside the river to view the chateau or alternatively take hte bikes or car to the village of Chenonceaux and full visit of the castle, there is an excellent restuarnat for lunch there.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage used to be the village bakery and is centrally located. It has been smartly decorated and well equipped; I would say uniquely of our properties it is a top class home with superb bedroom facuilities. The kitchen is well equipped for a serous cook. The sitting room opens onto thesecluded terrace so you can enjoy outdoor eating in the afternpoon and evening sunshine ro stay inside and still have the benefits of the french window. Situation is perfect for visitng the chateaux, we are a short drive from the autoroute junction so quick access to chateaux down beyond Tours such as Villandry, Usse, Chinon.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a great time in the cottage and patio though we were here during a heat wave! The neighbour came by and we all tried our best to communicate – very friendly folks. The Cocci Market is convenient, clean and well run. Roger and Francoise at the Lion d’Or are charming and helpful. The cottage is nicely furished and decorated, very homely.

Great cottage in a quiet village

  • 4 of 5

This was a perfect choice for 2 couples. Great to have 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is well supplied. Dining area and living room provide plenty of space for sharing meals or sitting and visiting. Not really any good restaurant choices in the town center. The small market is sufficient for most of what you'd want if fixing a meal. There's a new bakery, but it was not open while we were there. There's not much happening in Francueil, which was fine with us. The bike tires were not inflated well enough to ride, so we were disappointed about that. Ann was very responsive whenever we had questions prior to our trip and she provided lots of helpful information prior to arrival.

Owner's Response: Thank you we are so pleased you have enjoyed your stay in our cottage. I think this review belongs to La Vieille Boulangerie in Franceuil though it has been marked Maison Doiseau. Franceuil is a very quiet village, there is a good butcher who runs a convenient local store with most foods you need including milk and bread; probably the baker is on holiday. We thought there was a pump for the bikes so will make sure we have one for you next time. The cottage is very close to Chenonceau which is a must for all visitors! You will find very good restaurants there too. Hope to see you again - Ann

Loire Valley Village House

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Ann's property in Francueil. Francueil is a small village in the Loire / Cher river valleys. The hose is located right in the center of the village. The house has been recently updated and is a comfortable stay. Ours was a winter visit and we appreciated the fireplace and the firewood left for visitors. Francueil is conveniently located near Chambord, Cheninceau, and other chateaus in the area. Ann's instructions for arrival a enjoying the house were complete and helpful.

A charming cottage.

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautifully restored and very well equipped cottage. Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) enjoyed 6 nights at this property in the peaceful village of Franceuil. The cottage is decorated to a high standard and is very clean. It is located on the main road through Franceuil as shown in the picture. The cottage is within close walking distance of the local boulangerie and village shop and we enjoyed buying croissants for breakfast in the morning! The highlight of our holiday were cycle rides from the property to Chenonceau and neighbouring villages. There were bicycles at the cottage and the owners went to lengths to provide a smaller bicycle for our younger child. The owners were extremely helpful throughout, responding promptly to our queries.

  • 5 of 5

Really lovely house, really nice bathrooms, very clean. Very comfortable beds. Everything you could need had been thought of. Great location within easy reach of Chenonceau and lots of interesting towns and chateau. Nice village with great boulangerie and small supermarket. Big supermarket short drive away. Only small outside area but lovely to sit out for breakfast or evening drink. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful cottage in small French Village

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully quaint cottage in a small French Village. The cottage is lovely and the kitchen has all the cooking basics needed. The bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely. The cottage is cozy and comfortable. We loved the atmosphere being is a small village with the market which had everything we needed. We used the bicycles at night. There is a fair amount of activity for a small village as the church bells ring on the hour until the evening and local traffic past the house but we loved it! The location is perfect if you want to explore the Loire Valley. It was conveniently located to Chateaus and places of interest and made for great day trips from the house and evenings to BBQ and relax on the patio. A wonderful property if you are looking for the real French experience. The owner responded promptly to emails and was very helpful. I highly recommend this property for a French holiday.

In a great location for exploring the Loire

  • 4 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay in this lovely property which is very central to the Chateaux of the Loire Valley. You would require a car to stay at this property as it is a few kilometres from Montrichard.

Owner's Response: Thank you Kerry I am delighted you have enjoyed our pretty cottage which is located in the village of Bourre on a quiet hillside behind the main street where you can buy your croissants in the morning. You can buy basic provisions in the village but big supermarkets are located in nearby Montrichard. We are centrally located for visiting the attractions of the Loire Valley just 10 minutes drive from Chenonceau. We provide bicycles for enjoyment of the river path to Montrichard and Chenonceau or across country (10 to15 miles) to Pontlevoy, Amboise and Chaumont. We also would recommend a car as the distance between chateaux is a half hours drive especially if you hope to see Chinon and Villandry to the west and Chambord to the east. Ann
