Stay in Roccocasale
The property sits at the very top of the village of Roccocasale. The first issue was parking. You cannot park at the property. There is a parking area down a very steep hill which was almost always full so you had to park a distance down a very steep road to get to the house. You also had to drag your suitcases up this very steep hill when you first get there. The next thing that was not mentioned in the description was that there are church bells and the town bells right outside the windows of this house. Unlike most places we have visited in the past, these bells rang every 15 minutes all day and all night long. It was impossible for us to sleep. We had rented the house for 22 days and left after 10 because of the bells. The owner said that the bells were not covered under their reasons for a refund and refused to refund any of our money. I spoke with a number of the people who live in this little town and they ALL complained about the bells. I would not recommend renting this property.
We have rented this house almost 100 times over the years and out of that 100 we have 25 reviews on this site and others. 22 of them are 5 star and 3 are 4 star.
Roccacasale is a medieval mountain stronghold with a castle overlooking it. Of course the roads are steep and yes, there are bells (NOT right outside of the window, the traveller is mistaken). The travellers review is a dramatic mis representation of the house and village and feels rather personal. The manager of the house was constantly contacted by the traveller who wanted local residents to move thier cars to allow him more convienient parking. The manager also reported it was left in a very bad state and he had to take the travellors rubbish to the bins. I could go on at length as the traveller represented the inconsiderate face of renting borne out by the fact he is happy to trash the future of this property as a rental venue and the livelihoods of the people associated with I Terrazzi
A unique and lovely property. Beautifully updated attached home in the old part of town, just beneath the castle. Hiking just out the door, however a car is a must for restaurants and supermarkets. Easy check in with tips to a cheap and convenient supermarket. Beautiful views. A short hike uphill and stairs required to access most of the property.
Wonderful place to stay. Real kitchen for cooks. Unlimited hot water that actually works. Comfortable beds. Nice towns people.
If you have ANY mobility issues DO NOT STAY HERE. The hill is extremely steep and due to a festival, we had to park at the bottom of the village. We didn't mind the hills and if you don't mind them, it's wonderful.
The house is super! The views are amazing.
The house was very clean, spacious and well equipped. It’s a perfect base to explore the mountains of Abruzzo.
Fantastic view, well equipped house with all the comforts of home.
Lovely house in a quaint Italian mountain village. It has to be seen to be believed! The view is unbelievable
large beautifully restored home
As a family of five with three grown children, we had a lovely comfortable stay in this four bedroom house. The views from each room were breathtaking, and the terrace provided a lovely breakfast and sunset-dining spot! Sulmona, as the local buzzing town, was a great place for an evening passageo and ice cream.
We are really pleased you enjoyed your holiday at I Terrazzi.
Abbruzzo is the greenest area in Europe with stunning scenery and a huge variety of wildlife. Within the national park there are wolves and bears. Abruzzo has a thousand castles some perilously perched on cliff edges others forming the heart of a settlement. There are many ski resorts near to the house, catering for all abilities. The beaches of Pescara are within easy reach and there are lakes nearby. Sulmona is world famous for its production of confetti and has a great market. There are many villages and towns with fascinating local customs and delicacies, churches and museums to visit and natural wonders such as the waterfall at the San Venanzio gullies. On a practical level there are many shopping centres nearby for groceries and an abundance of bars and restaurants. Interesting local produce includes pottery, lace, jewellery and honey. During the summer there always seems to be a festa to celebrate something in one of the local villages - an experience not to be missed.
