Matching style Guest House:

1200 sq ft. can accommodate up to 4 people in private bedrooms and 3 on large modular sleeper plus sofa in living area.

Main House

You can enter the house through a mudroom into the open floor plan where the dining room, living room and kitchen are all connected. The dining room has vaulted ceilings, log construction, a table will that seat 12 (we have seated 16) and a beautiful chandelier for ambience. The kitchen is open and has a large serving window where food can be easily gotten piping hot. Also downstairs is two of the bedrooms, one queen and one bunk with a twin over full and each have their own sliding glass doors to the outside. In all, there are 5 sliding glass doors downstairs so that anyone can easily access the outside wrap around deck over-looking the river and pond or to walk, hike, or fish.

The master bedroom includes a king bed, bath/shower with an over-sized tub, 2 sinks and large drawers for stowing clothes.

Also, upstairs are 2 similar bedrooms across from each other. Both have a twin with trundle that can be converted to a king bed by adding a foam mattress on top of the two. They share a small full bathroom in the hall way in between the two bedrooms.

Guest House:

Can sleep 7; has a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom with steam shower and an open living/dining room, with pull-out sleeper and a big screen TV. The custom construction is very nice, rustic with log work, wood floors, tile, and wood ceilings.

Guest house is situated above a detached garage on the second floor and the recreation/billiard room is below next to the driveway.

We have approx. 1/2 a mile of river/creek front alongside the property, a stocked pond for fishing, and a Rainbow play-set. With-in walking distance or a short dirve, many trails are easily accessed to hike or ride in any fashion. After sunset, is the amazing milky way, that can be enjoyed when the moon is new. Also, what we consider a great addition, lot's of privacy!

Both homes have direct TV, movies options, Hi-speed WI-FI.

Everyone can enjoy playing pool or cards in our recreation room. HUNTERS, WE HAVE TONS OF ROOM FOR 4 WHEELERS, BIG TRUCKS, PACK ANIMALS AND YOU CAN HANG YOUR GAME IN OUR BARN.

About Janet Lucas

My wife and I built this home for our family especially so that we could enjoy a country home life style. We moved in with 2 children in 1997 added 2 more children and lived in the home until 2012 after that, we moved in to town to accommodate our very busy children’s sports and social life styles.

We loved the privacy we enjoyed and the beautiful views of the river, ponds and trees from our breakfast counter and the starry milky-way from the hot-tub. in addition, we also enjoyed the short distance to the small intimate town of Gunnison.

Janet Lucas purchased this chateau / country house in 1997

Why Janet Lucas chose Southwestern Colorado

What is unique about this property is how well it can accommodate a large group gathering. It’s not fancy, it’s homey and it’s suited for making memories.

Also, because we prefer country living and the privacy this house affords us, we also enjoy that it is very close to Gunnison and it’s not completely isolated. It is conveniently located to all the things we love to do, including; fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, horseback riding, jeeping and much more. That is what makes this house an ideal place for anyone to enjoy as a country home getaway.

****During the slower seasons, it is possible that the main house will be rented to one party while the guest house is used by another.****

One last thing about Gunnison, if you don't all ready know-as the saying goes- 'It's Always Sunny in Gunny'

What makes this chateau / country house unique

What makes this property so unique is that it has nearly everything one could want when they visit Gunnison. If they hunt, they can bring horse trailers and have a place for their horses to board on site. If they have an RV or 4 wheelers, there is plenty of private parking for that too and they can 4 wheel straight away to miles and miles of trails right from the house. If fishing is on their mind, there is a river fed pond and nearly a half mile of private river frontage with a confluence of 2 rivers near the back side of the property. The convenient location to 2 ski areas, a Victorian mining town, Blue Mesa reservoir, Black Canyon National Park, rafting, BLM land, mountain biking trails and so much more, makes this property an outdoor enthusiasts dream.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“Janet's place is amazing. Super spacious with room for very large groups. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend if you're planning a trip to Gunnison.”

“Hi Janet, Thank you for being so accommodating with the check in time. We had a very comfortable stay at your place and the photo shoot went really well. Thanks again! ”

Beautiful grounds and property. KId-friendly and well-stocked. Friendly & helpful owners.

Great place for a family reunion. The main house has 2 kid friendly bedrooms...one even had a closet full of children's books, & a little loft balcony & playroom for our grandkids. They loved the playground set, the trampoline & feeding treats to the mules & horse. Owners were quick to respond when we contacted them about batteries needing replaced in the carbon monoxide detector (it kept beeping). House was very clean. We had 7 adults & 2 children in our group. We liked that we could ride our ATVs to the trails from the property. We also enjoyed the game room with the pool/ping pong table, fishing in the private pond & nearby Tomichi Creek, & enjoyed the fire pit too. House was well stocked in the kitchen, & even has plenty of board games! We will definitely be returning to this vacation home. Thank you Janet & Mark.

Great house and property. Plenty of room for all. We had a group of 19 and never felt crowded at all. The hot tub wasn't working which was a bit of a disappointment, but everything else was wonderful. Kitchen was fully equipped with anything you might need, including most spices. Loved having a gas range and the large griddle was fantastic for making pancakes and cooking bacon, it was also nice to find a extra large stock pot, it came in handy the night we fixed spaghetti. There were plenty of towels, both bath and kitchen. Of course with a group of 19 staying for 5 days we definitely did have to wash bath towels! (lol)

Peaceful Wedding in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a better place to get married. Plenty of room, Tons to do outdoors and as a bonus they have a rec room apart from the rest of the house, so kids can be as loud as they want while adults are relaxing by the firepit or in the very spacious living room. The master bathtub in the main house is what dreams are made of :). Its a large walk up Jacuzzi with a large window overlooking the pond and river. At night you can here the river running from any room in the house.

The Lucas family was very nice, eager to help and easy to get along with. We will be back !!!

We had 14 Adults and 5 kids

Beautiful place, great week. House is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week spent at the Lucas home. It is a beautiful place and this is our 2nd time visiting. The house is very well stocked with anything you can possibly need and so much room to spread out.

Our only complaint is that the house was not very clean. We arrived at 4:10 and the maid was still there. We would have been happy to come back if she would have told us she wasn't done. The bathroom in the room off the kitchen looked like it hadn't been touched, there was coffee in the pot, laundry still going and bathrooms did not have towels in them. We felt like things could have been cleaner and more ready as we know they had been the last time we stayed there.

Owner's Response: John, I am so, so sorry about the incomplete clean. Our head house keeper ran out of time and we had 2 other girls lined up to work with her, (I was out of town touring a university with my daughter and could not be there). The young ladies, new hires, had made last minute plans thinking that my HH had plenty of back up. I apologize, I wish I could have been there, I am very picky about our home! Janet Lucas

Fantastic Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful place for a medium to large group. We shared the house with four families and were easily accommodated with plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms and open spaces. The kids loved the horses and sledding on the property. Would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the many rap around porches. Thank you again for a fantastic time.
