Photos and Description of this 7 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Gunnison - PRIVATE TOMICHI RIVER HOME

Large Custom built-Country House/Guest House, 7 Bedrms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-19)

Gunnison/Parlin VRBO

Location: Gunnison, Southwest, Colorado USA (11 Mis. East of Gunnison)

In a ranching area, on the rustic side, house is in the country animals are part of the landscape, including mules, horses, cows, domestic dogs, deer, elk and on rare occasions mountain lions, bears and moose. Coyotes can be heard at night, fairly often.

Main house and guest house are connected by second floor deck and are situated on 15 acres just off of highway 50 in Parlin Colorado, located 11 miles E of Gunnison, on the confluence of Tomichi Creek and Quartz Creek, 45 minutes from Crested Butte, 30 minutes from Monarch Ski area, 30 minutes from historic Pitkin a popular Victorian mining town, and 30 minutes from Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Custom built Main House:

3000 sq ft. can easily accommodate up 12 people, 10 in private bedrooms and an extra padded convertible sofa that can sleep 2 extra people.

Matching style Guest House:

1200 sq ft. can accommodate up to 4 people in private bedrooms and 3 on large modular sleeper plus sofa in living area.

Main House

You can enter the house through a mudroom into the open floor plan where the dining room, living room and kitchen are all connected. The dining room has vaulted ceilings, log construction, a table will that seat 12 (we have seated 16) and a beautiful chandelier for ambience. The kitchen is open and has a large serving window where food can be easily gotten piping hot. Also downstairs is two of the bedrooms, one queen and one bunk with a twin over full and each have their own sliding glass doors to the outside. In all, there are 5 sliding glass doors downstairs so that anyone can easily access the outside wrap around deck over-looking the river and pond or to walk, hike, or fish.

The master bedroom includes a king bed, bath/shower with an over-sized tub, 2 sinks and large drawers for stowing clothes.

Also, upstairs are 2 similar bedrooms across from each other. Both have a twin with trundle that can be converted to a king bed by adding a foam mattress on top of the two. They share a small full bathroom in the hall way in between the two bedrooms.

From the stairs, between the main floor and the upstairs is an exterior exit with access to the hot tub just 20 feet away. The hot tub is on the balcony deck which also leads to the guest house. During the new moon especially the star viewing and milky way are simply amazing.

Guest House:

Can sleep 7; has the large hot tub on the deck, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, bathroom with steam shower and an open living/dining room, with pull-out sleeper and a big screen TV. The custom construction is very nice, rustic with log work, wood floors, tile, and wood ceilings.

Guest house and hot tub are situated above a detached garage on the second floor.

We have approx. 1/2 a mile of river/creek front alongside the property, a stocked pond for fishing, and a Rainbow play-set. With-in walking distance or a short dirve, many trails are easily accessed to hike or ride in any fashion. After sunset, is the amazing milky way viewing, usually from the hot-tub. Also, what we consider a great addition, lot's of privacy!

Both homes have direct TV, movies options, Hi-speed WI-FI.

About Janet Lucas

My wife and I built this home for our family especially so that we could enjoy a country home life style. We moved in with 2 children in 1997 added 2 more children and lived in the home until 2012 after that, we moved in to town to accommodate our very busy children’s sports and social life styles.

We loved the privacy we enjoyed and the beautiful views of the river, ponds and trees from our breakfast counter and the starry milky-way from the hot-tub. in addition, we also enjoyed the short distance to the small intimate town of Gunnison.

Janet Lucas purchased this chateau / country house in 1997

Why Janet Lucas chose Southwestern Colorado

What is unique about this property is how well it can accommodate a large group gathering. It’s not fancy, it’s homey and it’s suited for making memories.

Also, because we prefer country living and the privacy this house affords us, we also enjoy that it is very close to Gunnison and it’s not completely isolated. It is conveniently located to all the things we love to do, including; fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, horseback riding, jeeping and much more. That is what makes this house an ideal place for anyone to enjoy as a country home getaway.

****During the slower seasons, it is possible that the main house will be rented to one party while the guest house is used by another.****

One last thing about Gunnison, if you don't all ready know-as the saying goes- 'It's Always Sunny in Gunny'

What makes this chateau / country house unique

What makes this property so unique is that it has nearly everything one could want when they visit Gunnison. If they hunt, they can bring horse trailers and have a place for their horses to board on site. If they have an RV or 4 wheelers, there is plenty of private parking for that too and they can 4 wheel straight away to miles and miles of trails right from the house. If fishing is on their mind, there is a river fed pond and nearly a half mile of private river frontage with a confluence of 2 rivers near the back side of the property. The convenient location to 2 ski areas, a Victorian mining town, Blue Mesa reservoir, Black Canyon National Park, rafting, BLM land, mountain biking trails and so much more, makes this property an outdoor enthusiasts dream.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for all of your hospitality, it was so nice of you to bring some badly needed things from town, we weren't quite as prepared when we got to your place as we thought we would be. Your home and property are beautiful, we love Tomichi Creek. Hope to see you in the fall for hunting, we will need your guest home too!!

Great place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the house. Everything we needed was supplied and then some! We had 14 people counting the children and we never felt like we were bumping into each other. The children loved the mules and horse and made sure to go out and pet them at least 3 times a day! We had some light bulbs burn out and Mark was there the very next day fixing the problem. One highlight for the kids was when a very large beaver came into the pond and ate a lot of plants for over 2 hours. Overall the house was just perfect for us and I would highly recommend it for other families.

We had the best time at this place! The kids played non-stop and there was pretty much everything in the house that was needed. We had a great friends reunion and fathers day, couldn't ask for anything more. Only issue was the mosquitoes but of course was no fault of any one but nature, just had to get more bug spray...it still didn't stop us or the kids from being outside. Janet Lucas was so helpful and we kept in touch the whole time, very great people to work with. Thank you Lucas Family!!

Beautiful stay in beautiful country

  • 5 of 5

Nothing but praise for this wonderful home. The location is perfect for anyone looking to getaway and have access to everything Colorado has to offer. We spent the weekend fishing, hiking, and some went skiing. Everyone met up at night for big family meals and games at the house. Couldn't have asked for a better stay or more accommodating hosts! THANKS JANET!!!!

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

The Lucas family cabin is a great place to stay when you want to have a wide range of activities in the Gunnison/Monarch/Crested Butte/Blue Mesa area. The house has everything you need from dishes, cookware, laundry, grill and entertainment. You can eat inside at the bar with a great view of the property, at the large dining table, or outside on the back porch. Great place for an even better price.

Wonderful Winter Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We rented this beautiful house to celebrate my daughter's bachelorette weekend. We had a group of 12 people, ages 8 months to 93, and we all enjoyed our stay. The houses were clean and organized. The kitchen had every dish, pan, bowl, appliance, etc, that you could imagine and it was a pleasure to cook in. The guest house, where many of the girls stayed, was just as warm and inviting as the main house. We enjoyed the snow and had a great day of snowshoeing to help celebrate the weekend. With so many amenities, the only regret that we had was that we did not have a long enough stay to enjoy all of them. We are thinking about renting it again in the summer, so that we can enjoy more of what this property has to offer. The owner answered all questions in a timely manner and was always pleasant and helpful. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us to celebrate my daughter's up-coming wedding!
