My Wife and I just spent a the first week of November at Casa Maya. It's truly a lovely place. Very tastefully decorated, spacious with all mod cons. Thank God for the air conditioning.
Having your own pool is another huge plus and we had some great pool parties!
Maria, the house keeper, is also very helpful and she kept the place spotless as well as cooking our breakfasts every morning.
Also, the bed in the master bedroom is sooo comfy too!
The only criticism I could make is that during the course of our stay, there were numerous power cuts and there was no generator to back it up. It also could be useful if the path from the main road was lit up a tad more.
But honestly, it's a wonderful place to spend your holiday and we both thoroughly recommend it.
Andy and Jen, Surbiton.
Beautiful place to stay. We were there for 2 weeks and wished it was longer.Really good, from being met at the airport until departing.Excellent friendly ,helpful staff and the house ,garden and pool all lived up to our expectations. We would definitely recommend staying here. The house is very close to the supermarket and restaurants but yet quiet and private, The beach is also only a few minutes walk away.Thankyou for a great holiday!
This villa was exactly like the photos very picturesque , spacious and clean and very quirky !! Myself and my partner and our 3 children stayed in this villa for 15 nights and it was amazing , sangetta the house keeper was a pleasure to have around very helpful and loving towards the kids !! Candolim is a beautiful part of GOA and all I can say is we had a holiday of a lifetime and we are looking forward to booking up and coming again !!:)
Two friends and I have just returned from India including a 12 day stay in this charming old style Portuguese villa. Whilst not the place to go if one is looking for 5 star modern but impersonal hotel accommodation it is a real home from home in a peaceful area just a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the main street where there is a large supermarket, Newtons, and other shops and restaurants for one's every need. The owner and his staff maintain the house and beautiful garden well and there are lots of characterful touches. The private pool was a big bonus as being the end of the monsoon period, red flags where out on the beach, which is about a ten minute walk from the house. We spent a lot of our time relaxing in the pool and the patio area. The owner responded to our initial enquiry very quickly and was available by phone and e-mail to provide useful tips about our stay. He also made sure that we were met on arrival at the airport and a return transfer also went without hitch thanks to his local manager, Biraj. Biraj's lovely wife Sangeeta came daily to cook fantastic breakfasts, clean the house and change the linen etc. Nothing was too much trouble. The pool was also cleaned daily. All in all we had a wonderful time in Casa Maya and would not hesitate to go back or to recommend it to friends. One tip - take a torch as part of the lane to the main street has no lights. The garden is well lit and the owner has put some lights in the part of the lane nearer to the house which helps considerably.
My partner and I had an amazing holiday at Casa Maya. It was our first time in Goa, and we felt really lucky to have found somewhere so comfortable and well equipped so close to such an amazing beach - and stores, bars etc.
I've read some negative reviews about the villa, but our experience was totally different. You have to understand you're in India, and expect minor issues like blown light bulbs. However, nothing that couldn't be fixed in minutes failed during our stay. The place was in good nick, and lived up to the pictures online (the pool especially), which were what sold it to us in the first place.
Was it like a week in Broadstairs? No. The traffic's hair-raisingly Indian. The maid and the driver are Indian. The climate's Indian. The locals are Indian. If you want a week in Kent, go there. If you want a week in India, there aren't many better places to enjoy one.
I spent an extremely enjoyable fortnight with my boy friend last May at Casa Maya and were met at the airport by a very friendly driver who took us straight to the villa. Which was very convenient as it was our first trip to Goa.
The villa itself was perfect for us with it’s private pool and a helpfull local manager Shane who arranged some nice trps for us including a day riding horses as well as hiring a scooter for us to make trips on our own exploring the local beaches.
The villa itself was located very centrally but also in quiet spot close to the Candolim Beach and we were able to enjoy breakfast next to the pool in the morning watching the local bird life without the intrusion of the busy crowds only a short distance away.
Inside the house we had a comfortable bedroom with it’s own bathroom as well as another bathroom so that we didn’t need to share the same one.
If we any complaints sometimes we wished that Maria the housekeeper was a little over attentive but this was outwayed by the overall pleasure of staying in such a lovely house.
Would defintely consider returning and recomending to our friends.
Casa Maya is in Candolim village and is 10 minute drive from Calangute. It is easily accessible to Panjim and also the northern beaches of Morjim and Aswem. The famous Wednesday Flea market at Anjuna is about half an hours drive away or accessible by boat from the beach and the Saturday Night Market is 20 minutes away.
Casa Maya is very close to the beach in Candolim village and there are plenty of shops and restaurants in Candolim Beach Road which takes you to the beach. Candolim Road is a couple of minutes walk away and has banks with ATM machines, Bureau de Change, restaurants and probably the best and largest supermarket in Goa.
There are plenty of restaurants in the general area ranging from local Indian and Goan as well as a broad selection of international cuisine including French, Italian, Seafood,Chinese, Burmese and Thai many of these are of extremely high standard.
There are also plenty of jewellery shops and tailors close by.
