Our group rented both the bunk house and Elm View Cottage at Free Will Farm and it accommodated our group of 8 adults, 2 children and our dog perfectly. We went up for a long ski weekend and even though the conditions on the mountain were less than ideal, our lodging was perfect.
The hot tub was perfect for our sore muscles, the kids loved the animals and the bench on the hill that faces almost directly west was perfect for a beautiful sunset over the mountains and then gazing up at the endless amount of stars.
The owners live on the property and provided both the bunk house and the cottage with a dozen fresh eggs and loaf of fresh bread when we arrived. They were perfect hosts, giving us an orientation to the property when we first arrived and available if we needed anything but gave us plenty of space to do our own thing. Both locations were stocked well with anything we needed. We were able to get some local meats from a farm store not far away and use the grill to cook them up.
Overall it was a wonderful trip at a wonderful location. This is a special property that I would recommend to anyone and while we were getting ready to go we were told that they will be having baby lambs in the spring that we'd have to come back to visit. We may just have to take up this offer as I feel this is the type of property that has something different to offer each season and I'd love to experience each season there.
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful anniversary weekend at Free Will Farm in the Elm View Cottage. The farm is a gorgeous picturesque landscape and the owners encourage you to go explore and meet all the animals. Paul and Cathryn are extremely accommodating and have thought of everything when it comes to what you may need for your stay.
The fridge was stocked with breakfast goodies including fresh eggs, there are a ton of pots and pans, utensils etc to cook with.
The living room is cozy with a gas fireplace that puts out a lot of heat and comfy couches and chairs to snuggle up in and watch a movie.
The bedroom and bath are adorable and overflowing with amenities. The bed itself was extremely comfortable and we had a beautiful night's rest.
The highlight for me was the back patio that featured a jetted hot tub. It was incredibly relaxing to jump in the hot tub on both nights after a long day of exploring the surrounding area. All in all this was the rustic and romantic getaway we needed and wanted and we will definitely be coming back.
My wife, 5 year old son, and dog got to spend a week here at the beginning of the summer. It was a perfect week for us. The cottage was very comfortable and stayed nice and cool during the hot days. The pool was magnificent. Owners were welcoming, kind, and very helpful in orientating us to the area. We hiked nearby trails, made a trip up to Dartmouth and enjoyed being on the farm. Our son loved the animals, making S'mores in the evening, and chasing fireflies in the evening. I enjoyed taking our dog for early morning walks along the nearby rail trail by the river. We had a very relaxing week and hope to stay here again if we have similar plans next summer. Thank you.
As a family with young children, this setting was the perfect place to unwind & unplug for a few days! The kids loved the animals (pygmy goats, rabbit, donkey, horse, chickens...) and a screened in barn stocked with toys, books & games. The in-ground pool was huge and very clean and the diving board was a big bonus. I really loved how calm and quiet the whole property was and how interesting it was to explore property. The bunk house kitchen was completely stocked with all the pots & pans and spices needed for cooking and a dishwasher and laundry was a luxury as well. The owners left us butter & english muffins, juice, bananas, ice cream... it was really thoughtful. They were very kind and helpful, thoughtful and easy to chat with. We felt very welcome. I would definitely return and have already suggested it to friends. The town and surrounding area had some decent playgrounds and icecream shops but was pretty quiet otherwise. There was a Shaws within a few miles. Loved it!
We have spent 10 wonderful days in the Bunk House. We had such a worm welcome by Cathryn and Paul like we never had before when we rented a house. They already filled the fridge, gave us a lot of information what to do around Newport and even picked my husband up after a veeery long hike - thanks again for that!
It was gorgeous on Freewill Farm, not too far to visit Boston and the White Mountains. Near by Lake Sunapee and Winnipesaukee and also nice places for shopping. The cottages have everything you need for a great holiday! We definitely would like to come back to visit this great place and our lovely hosts!
I had a wonderful time staying in the Elm Cottage. It was a such a great get-away from busy city life. The grounds are gorgeous, the house is perfect - everything you need, the pool was refreshing on a hot day and my dog was in heaven. I spent a lot of time on the back porch relaxing and playing guitar while the pup roamed the grounds. The hosts are wonderful, kind and helpful. And the price just can't be beat. This is a great vacation spot for a family with small kids (animals!) or for a couple just wanting to get a break (that was us). I highly recommend a stay here!
