Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Cedar City - The Cottage

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

This quaint and homey two bedroom, one- bathroom cottage was built in the 1930's and has recently been remodeled. It is located in the heart of 'Festival City USA', Cedar City, Utah.

The 1100 square foot cottage has two bedrooms and one bathroom. One bedroom has a queen and a twin-sized bed. The other bedroom has a queen sized bed. Each bedroom and the living room have cable TV. The fireplace pictured is not available for use.

With the twin-size roll away bed, this cottage will sleep up to six.

The wood laminate floors throughout the house and the 'doggie door' in the bedroom on the right make this dwelling pet-friendly. There is a fenced yard for dogs behind the house.

We like to think of our Red Door Lodging Cottage as a 'Make Your-Own Bed and Breakfast'. A pancake breakfast starter kit and a coffee/ hot cocoa starter pack is our gift to you upon your arrival.

The kitchen is stocked with the the amenities you will need to make your stay both enjoyable and economical. There is even a crock pot so you can have something delicious waiting for you when you get back from your hike, trip to Zion National Park, or many of the other activities that are available here. The appliances, including the washer and dryer in the laundry room are full -size. The kitchen does not have a dishwasher.

The furnishings are comfortable, yet not overwhelming. Things are decorated tastefully, without going overboard. We believe that people are looking for nice and clean accommodations that are close to the places that they want to go to. Southern Utah University and both theater festivals are a few blocks away.

At 5857 feet above sea level, Cedar City has much more moderate temperatures in the summer compared to its more well-known neighbor 50 miles south, St. George, Utah.

This equates to beautiful evenings that can be spent in the open-air seating of several of the Shakespeare plays put on each summer and fall during the world famous Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival. They also have indoor productions, if is more to your liking.

The Neil Simon Festival also has plays during the summer which are held indoors at the Heritage Center during July and August.

If you are wondering how far away some of these world class attractions are, here is a list of some of the most popular ones:

Utah Shakespeare Festival- .45 miles (about 4 1/2 blocks)

Neil Simon Festival- .27 miles (about 3 1/2 blocks)

St. George, Utah- 52 miles, (about 50 minutes)

Las Vegas, Nevada- 170 miles, about 2 hours, 30 minutes

Brian Head Ski Resort; 33 miles, about 45 minutes

Lake Powell- 155 miles, about 3 hours

Cedar Breaks National Monument- 26 miles, about 40 minutes

Bryce Canyon National Park- 80 miles, about 1 hour, 40 minutes

Zion National Park- 60 miles, 1 hour, 15 minutes

North Rim of the Grand Canyon- 169 miles, 3 hours, 30 minutes

Zion Park, Kolob Canyons- 25 miles, 35 minutes

There are a lot of other places to go in this part of the world and we must say that the sites are breathtaking and awe-inspiring! You might come away a changed person with a new outlook on life.

While you may come just to attend one of the festivals, there are things to do year-round here as well. It seems like with the amount of snow we have received this year that Brian Head and the other ski resorts in Utah might be open past June. After the snow is gone they have other things going on up in the cool night elevations of the mountains. Mountain biking, hiking, and lake fishing are always popular.

If you are more adventurous, you might try renting a Harley and letting the wind blow through you hair as you look up at the majestic cliffs of Zion Park without the car roof blocking your view.

About Monica Murset

Hi! I am Carolyn Murset. My husband and I moved to southern Utah 30 years ago. because of the magnificent scenery and the equally magnificent people. We had two children when we moved here and now have five. We have seven grand children who all love this part of the world. It is no wonder so many people visit here, and then end up staying.

My husband loves to take pictures and has hung a few at our properties for you to enjoy. He is partial to black and white photography. Our youngest daughter also seems to have caught the bug and you will also see some of her photos as well.

I love to sing, act, play the guitar and have hundreds of other interests. It was my idea to start down this road with a vacation rental and we believe it has been a great thing for us and for our fellow travelers.

We like to travel, but don't seem to do it as often as we would like to. In fact, we still have not gotten our passports!

Monica Murset purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Monica Murset chose Utah

We bought this cottage and a very crooked little blue house next to it in 2008. We then built the gray twin townhomes in it's place. We think Cedar City is a great place for people to visit.

What makes this cottage unique

We believe that after you stay in our lovely and comfortable cottage that you will want to book way in advance so that you can have another wonderful experience here in beautiful southern Utah.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi, this is the owner. Since we are just finishing up this vacation rental home we don't have any reviews. We have some for our property next door (VRBO #361886). We hope you will be our first ones to enjoy our new rental. I can't really describe how peaceful and relaxing this home is. I just love the huge front room which is uncommon for this age home, you just want to curl up on the couch. We hope you will become a member of the Red Door Lodging family. See you soon.

Very nice cottage in just the right location

  • 4 of 5

Very nice "cottage" that looks like it used to be a 1940's residence. Plenty of room, full kitchen, and nicely appointed. There was a problem with internet connectivity; the owners responded as soon as I texted them. I was never able to connect to the cottage's wi-fi because of a router problem but I expect that situation will be taken care of promptly.

The cottage is very dog friendly with a gated side yard. A doggie door from one of the bedrooms to the outside was a nice plus too.

The cottage is right across the street from an elementary school so on the weekend, it was very quiet. The Cedar City historic district is just a few blocks away as is the Veterans' Memorial. The cottage really is in an ideal location and just a block away from the highway that goes up to Cedar Breaks, Brian Head, and Parowan.

The only negative thing that I can think of to comment on is that while the cottage has Dish TV, I was only able to get maybe 5 or 6 channels. It would have been nice to have had access to channels like TBS, TNT, History, etc. Only broadcast channels were available.

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage for four adults and two small dogs. It is a lovely cottage, much roomier than it appears in the photos. Main Street is 2 blocks away and the Shakespeare Festival is 4 blocks away. Easily within walking distance. There is a wonderful park about a block in the opposite direction and the gated porch was fantastic for our pooches although we enjoyed it too . Having a full, well supplied kitchen was great. The Murset’s were wonderful to deal with. We look forward to renting the cottage again and would highly recommend it.

A Lovely Property!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this great little property. I joined my sister and my niece for a visit here. This is the first time I've used this type of service - before having just used standard motels and hotels. I was very happy with it. Clean, comfortable, and economical - this is a very charming place. Loved sitting on the gated porch at night as my dog could join me there to enjoy the evening breeze. The dog couldn't quite figure out the doggy door - got out but couldn't get back in. It's an unusual arrangement with a somewhat steep incline to the outdoors. But there's a side yard (fenced) that he could also use. We adapted well - and we were all very happy with the house. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone, and will look forward to using it again next year, if still available.

Our third year at the cottage makes us feel like coming home to southern Utah, and it doth bestrides the other cottages like a colossus (sorry Will).

This is our second stay at this property. On both occasions we've found it a comfortable base for attending plays at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. It's easy walking distance to USU and our favorite Cedar City restaurant (to be truthful, the only Cedar City restaurant we've enjoyed)-- Centro. If it's available next year, I imagine we'll be back a third time.

Third time still charmed

We always enjoy staying here. This was our third year. The place is well kept, close to the things we want and we will be sorry when we grow out of it.
