About The Owner

We are 50's year old couple who love to travel, cook and spend time with friends and family. We also enjoy hiking, biking and volunteering.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2010

Why The Owner chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake has always been a special place for us. Every time we came to stay it seemed that Life naturally began to slow down. You feel this as soon as you arrive and it gives you a chance to appreciate what life has to offer and to finally 'smell the roses'. There are so many unique and wonderful places to see in the Niagara area including live theatre, wineries, music festivals, historic forts, museums, shopping and the most amazing display of flowers in a town center we have ever seen. We are also located on the horse and carriage route. Beautiful Horses pulling fancy carriages and their guests can be seen all through the day and evening as they stroll past our front door. It's simply magical to see and hear them....

We have always wanted to live in NIagara-on-the-Lake and in 2010 that dream came true.

What makes this cottage unique

Regent House is literally a 30 second walk to Queen Street which is the center of Historic Niagara-on-the-Lake. We are also a 2 minute walk to all three of the Shaw Theatre venues. Within a 20 minute drive there are over 28 excellent wineries to choose from. There are also many fabulous restaurants within walking distance or a short drive.

If you like biking, hiking or running there are many trails and pathways that offer breathtaking scenery. A couple that we really enjoy are the Niagara Parkway and the Bruce Trail. The Niagara Parkway is a paved path that you can walk, cycle, roller blade or run on which follows the Niagara River from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Niagara Falls and all the way to Fort Erie. Along the way you pass historic monuments, parks, a butterfly conservatory and of course the Falls. The Bruce Trail is a UNESCO designated area 700km long that has so many beautiful waterfalls, wildlife and scenery. It's our goal to hike the entire length at some point.

Our group of 10 family and friends from the UK , France and Canada had the most wonderful stay over New Year. Paul and Melissa were in contact throughout the booking process giving us all the information we needed to feel confident about our stay . Their obvious love for the house is infectious. They have restored it with such love and care

The house is in a perfect location so close to the Main Street's shop ,restaurants and theatres you have no need of a car. We explored Niagara Falls and the beautiful parkland around them. Trips to the various wineries were fascinating . We were not familiar with Niagara's Ice Wine and enjoyed learning and tasting the various varieties offered.

We would love to return to Regent House another time. You could not fail but to have a wonderful stay.

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

Our group of six enjoyed the luxury of spending a week at Regent House for our annual cousins' trip. From initial contact and throughout the rental process, we found the owners to be very pleasant, responsive and professional. On arrival Paul and Melissa greeted us warmly. They kindly showed us how to operate the heater, appliances, TV and WiFi. They also shared some historical background information. Regent House has been elegantly updated to provide all modern conveniences while preserving lots of historic charm. It is beautifully furnished, tastefully decorated, spacious, comfortable, and immaculately clean. The backyard is attractively landscaped and includes a deck with nicely furnished seating and dining areas. There's ample parking on both sides of the house. The vibrant center of NOTL, with its theaters, shops and restaurants, is only a stroll away. Numerous wineries and historic sites are but a short drive. We've stayed in many vacation rentals and Regent House is one of the very best. Highly recommended.

7 friends, who travel once a year and have used VRBO rentals several times in various other locations, were very, very satisfied with Regent House. It is a lovely and charming historic home that is beautifully furnished, ideally located and well cared for. All of our group were very pleased with this choice and appreciated the well-supplied kitchen and the many bathrooms. The sheets were high quality and beds were very comfy. Kudos to the owners who have updated this historic home while maintaining its charm and the original structure. Highly recommend.

Reunion with Friends

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Regent House was delightful. It was a perfect spot for a friends' reunion. The town is quaint and within walking distance to the house. We walked to the lake, biked the lake paths and spent lots of time just visiting on the back deck. In fact, we stayed at the house and fixed supper every night we were there. It was so comfortable and accommadating! Beautiful backyard, lovely bedrooms with private bathrooms and scrumptious linens. Plenty of living space and parking. Paul and Melissa were wonderful to work with. Hated to leave!

Absolutely and Totally Worthy of 6-stars!...Yet Represents Value Received.

  • 5 of 5

I'm not given to hyperbole....

Our 5-night stay at Regent House was my wife's 10th annual sibling/spouse reunion; which, combined with our 3 decades of world travel, suggests we have experienced a variety of accommodations. NOTL is the 3rd reunion Joyce and I have planned (1st and 2nd were a houseboat on Kentucky Lake, and a VRBO rental on Mackinaw Island).

Last fall, Joyce and I drove the 5 hrs from Southeast Michigan to NOTL to look at 4 houses that might meet our 4 BR/4BA requirements. We were met at Regent House by owners Paul & Melissa, who showed us every detail and answered all our questions. We concluded the contract, subsequent and other details by email. We found Paul and Melissa without equal as landlords.

Frankly, of the 4 houses we considered, Regent House became our 1st choice based upon:

a) having 5 BRs with 5 en-suite BAs, a well-organized large kitchen where the 4 ladies could prepare dinners, a great family room, and the convenience of an extra downstairs toilet attached to the laundry room;

b) having huge trees, beautiful flowers and gardens, grille, and outdoor seating; and

c) clearly, the best location relative to all the attractions available on Queen Street.

In fact, the location deserves discussion...RH has driveways on both sides of the house because day-trippers and those staying in more distant homes cruise for (free) street-parking near Queen Street so as to avoid the paid parking lots--RH's private parking is a major hassle avoided.

Our 4 couples found RH to be so inviting and comfortable, and so well-equipped in every detail (even large guest umbrellas if required)--we actually spent more hours enjoying the house, patio and pergola, than we customarily do. I can’t speak more highly of RH than that.

Which is not to suggest NOTL is without its many visitor charms. It is a wonderful, friendly, historic, and flowered town--an absolute joy to visit--yet perhaps the best-kept secret in North America! We walked Queen Street every day; the Valu Mart is only a few blocks walk; the Shaw Festival is a top attraction; Fort George is well-worth an afternoon; our private Ghost Tour was a gas; everyone bought a souvenir of some sort (mine a hat from The Irish Harp); and Niagara Falls is a short and parkland drive south. We recommend lunch at the golf course, overlooking the lake. (BTW, the local ice wines are outstanding.)

If 6-stars were available, Regent House would deserve them.

charming vacation spot

The Regent house was the perfect getaway for our family. The house is simply lovely and the accommodations clean and comfortable. No detail was ignored. Also, you just cannot beat the location of the house to town and parking is ample for the number of guests.
