Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in MidCoast - Penobscot Bay - Maranatha Cottage

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 16-17) spectacular sunrises and views

Pleasant Beach, South Thomaston 2 BR newer oceanview home. Enjoy spectacular sunrises and views of the many offshore islands and lobsterboats. It is considered by many to be one of the prettiest locations in the whole mid coast area with a beach, 20-30 offshore islands, harbor, wharf, and great fishing, some people catch 20-50 lb stripped bass on the first cast almost every year from the rocks at low tide and feel sorry for the fish and throw them back. Please check the state size regulations as they may change each year. The house is on a hill up from the ocean. You can even walk out to one island at low tide! Walk for miles by the ocean and explore the tidal pools for starfish, crabs and wildlife, boat landing, bring kayak, canoe, or boat to explore many offshore islands, some had native American settlements, you can see many herds of seals sunning themsevles on the rock ledges by the offshore islands if you go out to the islands by boat, great fishing off rocks in front of house at low tide by channel. place for campfire. 2 ocean sea kayaks, 2 seats each, Old Town and Perception with child seat also, and a 4 person canoe are provided free for your use, please lock them up in the basement after each use, there is high speed internet so bring a laptop if you want to watch TV and keep up with the news in the outside world

Bald eagles are being sighted frequently since the winter and spring of 2012 at low tide by the ocean and apparently they go fishing as a pair to fed their eaglets that must be high up in a tree behind the cottages, they fly overhead above the trees year round now, many types of bushes and flowers and plants have been planted in the last few years, by the houses and on the way to the ocean, 3 types of lavender including the one used to make perfume, 4 different flowering colors each of heather and butterfly bushes, foxglove, menardis and osobe, many of which draw hummingbirds and butterflies in season and other varieties of flowers.

Maranatha Cottage 2 sleeps 14-16,with king, queen and single size beds, 3 super comfortable inflatable queen 18 1/2 inch high air mattresses with built in electric pump and built in pillows if extra friends or relatives come to visit, natural wood flooring.

Two decks, winterized. and plenty of windows.

Take advantage of the lobster! You can buy some from a local lobsterman and prepare it yourself! South Thomaston is located 5 miles from Rockland, the 'Lobster Capital'. 40% of Lobsters in the state are caught in this county!, the best way to cook lobster is in ocean salt water, self cleaning oven, also there is a place for a campfire and logs cut in the woods for use in the campfire or may be split for use in the woodstove

Local lighthouses (Owl's Head, Rockland Breakwater and Marshall's Point), Camden Hills State Park, Farnsworth Art Museum are some favorite day trip destinations. Nearby towns like Camden and Rockland are fun to explore and do some souvenir and antique shopping. Acadia National Park is only a few hours away.

Keywords: newer cottage, cabin, partial ocean view, partly sandy beach, boat landing

My family and I have been saying at this cottage on Pleasant Beach for more than 10 years. It fits our family of five comfortably with room to spare. The beach and cove are right outside the door, and it has nice water views. It is a great place to spend the day but is also within striking distance of all the major attractions, including Port Clyde, Spruce Head, Rockland, the Camden Hill State Park and a half-dozen light houses. It's the perfect place for a family of day-trippers who want to hike, go to the beach, or access some of the best restaurants the area has to offer. It is extremely affordable and is located along a quiet cove away from the crowds. Truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Fraudulent description

  • 1 of 5

The cottage has no spectacular view nor any ocean view. Views are of trees, other houses. Upon entering, there is stench of decay, rot or toxic chemicals, which made me leave almost immediately. Place is filthy, not painted in years inside, with scuff marks, scratches, dirt obvious and almost everywhere. No sheets, pillow cases included. Even outside, rotting paint cans on bench outside entrance and empty cigarette box in outdoor fire pit. I took many photos. To get key, one must enter adjoining house which should be condemned and also reeks. At rental cottage, bedroom closet filled with debris and mangled hangers. And owner demanded full payment sight unseen, 2 months before the rental, unlike any other VRBO site I have rented over the years. When I called to complain once we got there, he responded that he knew I was fussy. I have filed complaint with VRBO. Owner has not returned even my deposit. We were able to stay only 5 minutes to document the scene. I believe the other reviews come from owner's newer rental property which goes by the same name and which does appear to be facing the water. I cannot recommend this property to anyone.

Comfy and cozy

Really enjoyed a week here in the autumn of 2015. It was a perfect spot for watercolor painting and seeing the local sights! Enjoyed the beach very much and the nightly breeze coming off the ocean.

Pleasant cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a two week stay in the Maranatha Cottage in late August and early September. The cottage sits behind the larger house that’s also available as a rental from the same owner. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen with a new refrigerator and stove and although there were only two of us, there is ample sleeping space for a larger group. The cottage sits a few dozen feet further back from the water than the main house but there’s a lovely view of the sunrise over the water from the master bedroom window. The two properties sit at the water’s edge at the end of a cul-de-sac so it’s very quiet and peaceful throughout the day. This was a working vacation and we were away each day until evening, so we especially enjoyed sipping a glass of wine on the beach at sunset. While the location feels remote, good restaurants, shopping and services are available a few miles away in Thomaston or Rockland. The excellent Slipway restaurant at the marina in Thomaston should not be missed. We had comfortable and enjoyable stay in the cottage and felt that it was very reasonably priced.

Always Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Been going here since 2004, every time find it cozy, comfortable, and so like home. Decks on back and front side give ample outdoor space. Side deck has ocean view. Inside has very large open space on ground floor with large bathroom, shower stall. Kitchen, dining, living room all one room, with lots of windows for views outside, Upstairs 2 bed rooms, very comfortable and roomy. 10 could sleep upstairs. So, even with a rainy day, lots of indoor space for all kinds of activities. Nice wood stove, heats the whole house quickly, when needed. Easy access to ocean, and short drive to some pleasurable locations on the coast. Nothing as well situated for the price. Come, have a real Maine coast vacation.
