About Susan Warren

Hey, I'm Susan. I have been an elementary school teacher for 31 years. I have traveled with my son to Europe and had some great experiences in Germany, Sweden, Austria, Finland, and the Aland Islands. I enjoy facebook and keeping with the latest trends and friends.

Susan Warren purchased this house in 2012

Why Susan Warren chose Florida

This log cabin is unique because every log was harvested locally and put together by hand. It is situated on the beautiful Chipola River near the Dead Lakes. This is some of the best fishing area in the world. It is surrounded by a forest with a variety of trees and wildlife. It is not unusual to to see deer, wild turkeys, owls, and a quail families nearby. Some of the trees are over 100 feet tall filled with birds native to this region.

What makes this house unique

It is uncommon to find such an abundance and variety of wildlife in one area. The house has a wrap around porch and is within 50 feet of the Chipola River. There are steps leading down to the boat dock on the river where kayaking and fishing are popular. If you would like to view a you tube of the cabin and surrounding area, contact me and I will email you a video.

The cabin and property are so beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and surrounding property are peaceful and beautiful, the pictures don't do justice! We had a fantastic time and definitely plan a return trip in the near future. Our dogs enjoyed running and playing in the large yard area and my daughter absolutely loved playing in the outside bathtub! Overall, we had a fantastic experience!!

Warm and inviting!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed a few days on the river with our 5-month-old twins. The cabin was very warm and inviting. It was clean and well-kept. The outdoor tub was a hit with our twins as they like bath time and being outside! The carport was nice and had it not still been so hot during our stay we would've utilized the space more to eat outside. It would be perfect for a large gathering and plenty of room for yard games. We would've also used the enormous fire pit had it been cooler too! The only negatives I have are 1)the dock could use a little TLC. It's not really in shape to sit and relax however it did come in handy for my husband to dock his boat to come in for lunch while taking a break from fishing. 2) I recommend bringing your own drinking water because the water has a strong sulfur smell. Neither one of the negatives would stop us from staying here in the future, though. We really enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed stay at the cabin. I'm sorry you were not happy with the dock. It is built from cypress and maybe more rustic than some would like. I do have a Culligan water system at the cabin. I will check to be certain everything is working properly to insure that there isn't a problem for guest in the future.

Berkeley, Calif

excellent place along the Chipola River

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the log house while doing research on the Apalachicola River nearby. The house was very comfortable, with everything we needed. It was a great place for us to rest up and talk amongst ourselves. The house has a wonderful rustic ambiance (but with all the comforts) and is in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Chipola River. We would definitely stay there again. The listing was accurate, the property was clean, customer service was good, and we would recommend it to our friends.

Perfect Florida Cabin Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

First, the negatives:

1. Owner was unable to control the outside temperature of Florida in July, and

2. The pictures and description of this amazing getaway cabin did not do it justice.

That's it. My writing partner (call him "Radley") and I needed a quiet getaway to work on our novel and sought a place roughly central to us (I'm in Jacksonville, FL and he's in Pace, FL) that was away from the madding crowd.

However, Radley and I are not cavemen so we also wanted creature comforts to pamper ourselves.

This log cabin on the Chipola met all our expectations and more.

The cabin itself is beautifully crafted and appointed. The exterior wrap-around porch (two sides of the home) and interior rustic decor provided us the sense of escape. Satellite television was available, though we never turned it on and wifi internet provided the connectivity to the outside world we needed from time to time.

In addition to kitchen essentials, most of the nice-to-haves were there, too. Toaster (wide-slot to accommodate the obligatory Texas Toast), microwave, coffee pot (an essential for writers), and every sort of pot, pan, knife, spoon, and even every seasoning we needed were there on our arrival. Plenty of soap and fresh, clean towels were in the 2.5 bathrooms and the bedding was clean and in great condition.

Of course, no getaway weekend would be complete without outdoor cooking and activities. The dock on the Chipola River gave us a quiet spot for fishing to get away from our writing, and the grounds are surrounded by trees, giving the impression that we were thousands of miles from anywhere. In addition to the kettle grill were charcoal and even outdoor grilling utensils, making our outdoor cooking smooth and effortless.

Capping all of the physical and geographic niceties of the place was working with the owner, Susan Warren. Our pre-departure questions were answered immediately and our special request to check in early was met without hesitation. On the day of our arrival, Susan was managing a personal family situation but was still available to guide us to the site, in addition to providing tips for handling the logistics like provisions and connecting to the wifi.

One heads-up: there was virtually no cellular coverage, though that was exactly what we were looking for. With wifi, we were not cut off from the world completely.

My wife and I will be returning for Thanksgiving...provided some other lucky soul doesn't reserve it first!

Thank you, Susan!

Will definitely come back

  • 5 of 5

The property was serene and the cabin was beautiful. The property has everything that you would ever need (just bring food to cook). Everything was better than imagined when we arrived and Susan was very helpful and informative. The entire property was very clean and organized. The cabin is about an hour away from the Florida Caverns State Park, 15 minutes from the Dead Lakes Park, and 0.3 miles paddling distance to Dead Lakes from own launch site in backyard on Chipola River. We will definitely stay here again!
