Perfect place for two. Had all the essentials anyone would need. Deb was awesome and super friendly and helpful to us out of towners. She gave us all the tips and recommendations we needed. Already can't wait to come back!
My wife and I spent a week up on Lake Shagawa and loved it the accommodations were just as stated no surprises everything went without a hitch we were plenty warm I was concerned about that beings it was that late in the year but we didn't even have to fire up the sauna for half of the week but it was plenty enough to heat the cabin. We spent the first few days not fishing that hard just scouting the lake for some walleye spots once we found those fishing wasn't hard could usually catch walleye and landed one nice hefty 34 inch northern on a jig and shiner. I wish the next vacationer to catch him again because he is still swimming in the waters of Lake Shagawa. The owners were great very accommodating very friendly couldn't ask for more I will definitely be going back!!
Our week at this cottage was a great, summer family get away! Upon arriving we were greeted by the owner, she was awesome and wanted to make sure that we had everything we needed to make our week the best. I was very excited to see the property, and it was exactly what I was hoping for, Cozy, clean and stocked with all the essentials needed to enjoy the week. The view of the lake was spectacular and I spent every morning with my cup of coffee on the patio enjoying it. The owner and her son also took us on a tour of the lake on their pontoon which was very thoughtful and we had great conversation. Our week there included hiking, biking, trip to the bear center, lots of fishing and relaxing. We also used the sauna followed by a dip in the lake, which was very awesome, especially since it was a bit cool the week we were there. If concerned about the incinerator toilet, don't be. It was not a problem and did not cause any inconvenience what so ever. Can't wait to plan our next trip back with my husband and two daughters, ages 4 and 7. My husband is planning an ice fishing trip as the owners are in the process of having the cottage available during the winter months. Great times!!!!
My buddy took me up to this cabin as a 50th birthday present. We were at the cabin for 4 days, and had a great time. The owner is very nice, and made our stay a pleasant one (for goodness sake, she even bought me a birthday present!). We had very good walleye fishing, caught quite a few northerns, and even got a few smallmouth bass.....2 of which were very nice! We caught a few perch as well....one was a pig! The owner of the property did everything to make our stay a pleasant one. Will definitely visit this cabin again!
My wife and I, plus our two small dogs, found a perfect retreat in this small lakeside cabin on the northern shore of Lake Shagawa. The setting is beautiful. The city of Ely can be seen in the distance, on the south side of the lake, and behind, across the road, is a forested, rocky ridge, criss-crossed with well-maintained trails. We climbed the ridge daily, and were gifted with views of the lake and a glimpse into the deep woods, full of ancient boulders and pine cones. The landscape is a feast for those who carry a camera.
We were surprised to find that the wood-fired sauna was built into the cabin. With a good stoking, and a quick dip in the cool lake, this was the best sauna I've ever experienced. The shower is also located in the sauna. It's about more than cleaning oneself; it's about purification, relaxation and meditation. For this alone, the cabin is superb.
The fishing was a bit off when we visited, yet we were able to catch a 17” walleye, a northern, and a couple of smallmouth bass, which were catch and release only at the time. Besides a wonderful walleye meal, we were able to prepare anything we fancied in the kitchen. Deby, the owner, did everything she could to accommodate us, and was always available if we needed anything. She and her son, Jon, were welcoming and gracious hosts. The only problem with the entire vacation was that we had to leave after only a week. But we'll be back!
Where do I begin – First off - you couldn’t ask for a more friendly family to rent from – Easy going, helpful, sharing and welcoming. We enjoyed a very relaxed atmosphere while we were there. We couldn’t help getting to know the owners. They were so inviting and quick in conversation.
The cabin is extremely clean with many recent upgrades including new pine paneling, ceiling fans and very comfortable beds. The sauna is huge and heats up quickly. The kitchen has everything you would need, pots, pans, crock pot, microwave, knives forks, plates, bowls etc…etc... Everything - including a full size refrigerator. You will not have to pack anything you might need in the kitchen. Outside the cabin is a large canopy covered deck with a table and chairs which was perfect for meals and relaxing. A huge fire pit nearby was used every night we were there as shooting stars were visible by the minute. The large dock is more than accommodating and if you bring your own boat like we did, there is an excellent public boat launch about ¼ mile down the shoreline – close and convenient. Shagawa is a beautiful lake with pristine water. Pet friendly is another plus – our dogs were so happy to be able to come with us. Our family had a great time at this cabin and for the money you could not find a better value.
Excellent family to rent from. Excellent Value. We are planning our trip back for next summer.
