3 bedrooms, (all new beds and bedding), 1 bathroom, separate toilet room.

Recently purchased and restored to a high standard with both new and antique furnishings, completely equipped, just bring your toothbrush! At the edge of a quiet village deep in the hedge-rowed countryside, La Chouette was custom built for the former mayor of St Clementin.

Enjoy the best of both worlds: walk to the excellent bakery and eat at the good restaurant yet be insulated from the busy world outside, set your wristwatch aside, the church bells chime the hours for you.

The area is characterized by small farms with a village every few kilometers, criss-crossed by rivers and liberally sprinkled with chateaux.

The rolling hills are either farmed or are small forests, it is the second sunniest region in France, noted for intense blue skies and a lush, green landscape.

The great chateaux of the Loire river begin at 30 minutes north, vineyards at 10 minutes, the Atlantic beaches are one hour west and endless interesting discoveries await at every turn, you are not far from it all!

Why here?: The Deux-Sevres is unspoiled by tourism and all its' problems: traffic, high prices, crowds and noise yet is within an easy drive of all you could want when you wish to experience France; you can even make Paris a day trip using the fantastic TGV.

We moved here in 2008 and have fallen in love with the warm, sweet and welcoming people, the pace of life, a region where family life is paramount and traditions endure, the air and environment are clean and good food is available in the farmers markets. The deeper we delve the more satisfying the experience.

What is close by?: Essentials: Supermarket, bank, shopping, fuel etc at 5 kms (3 miles) in Nueil-Les Aubiers.

Bressuire, our main market town at 12 km, (7.3 miles) has all requirements including hospital and train station, hardware stores and superb restaurants with budget-saving prices.

Scottish Games are played at the chateau.

The largest Japanese gardens in Europe are 20 minutes west, created in the mid-1800's, in a lush valley with a lake surrounded by mature, manicured trees and flowers, intertwined with paths and bridges.

Le Puy du Fou (look this up on the internet), at 45 minutes west, is a history themed park set in a forest with more fun things to do and see than is possible in a day. Gladiators fight and chariots race in the third largest Roman stadium in the world, village life of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries is recreated, a viking ship rises from the water, trained birds fly overhead and much more. It is a breathtakingly well executed park, little known outside of Europe.

Further afield...day trips: There are an endless number of chateaux and gardens open to the public even if they are privately owned.

The best wine bargains in France are found here either direct from the winery, from the local merchants or even the supermarket.

The Royal Abbey at Fontevraud, the largest in Europe, at 40 minutes NE, is worth seeing; Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine are buried there.

Atlantic beaches are one hour+ west, like Les Sables d'Olonne, the port of departure and return for the around the world sailing race.

Nantes, the Paris of the west, is one hour+ west, a city with a wonderful old center, chateau, museums, antique shops, great restaurants and parks. You can get around easily on the tramway.

St Clementin, a village first mentioned in clerical writings in the second century, is today a clean, tidy village of 500 situated at the top of the department (county) of Deux-Sevres, close enough to the Maine et Loire department to be considered in the Loire Valley.

A hidden secret, the region is unspoiled, green, slow-paced, unpolluted and charming, a 'region familiale'

Farmers markets are to be found in one village or another most days of the week; France is an intensely farmed country and our region is no exception, farms are the priority over development.

The American owners live on the adjoining estate and are happy to help with tourism highlights, restaurant reservations and other details to make your stay stress free.

Other Activities: Birdwatching, horseback riding, karting, chateaux visits, park and garden visits, winery tours, guided historic walks....

Golf: New golf course being built, open in 2013, in Bressuire, our market town at 8 miles (15 minutes).

The region is the second sunniest in France after the Mediterranean coast, zero pollution, very little traffic, and best of all: friendly and welcoming people.

Le Puy du Fou (google this) is a fantastic history-themed park, Le Parc Oriental is the largest Japanese garden in Europe, the Loire Valley chateaux, and the Atlantic beaches are all within easy reach.

The quality of light and lack of pollution is attracting artists; a very well known art school is 10 minutes away. It is an ideal region to discover old-fashioned France.
