About Hadley

South County resident who has wanted to live in the historic Pier for many decades. We lovingly restored a 100 year old Victorian home in the historic Narragansett Pier last year. This home has made all of our dreams come true. Waking up to sunrises over Narragansett Beach, walking to the beach and our favorite seaside restaurants has changed our lives. Nothing beats beach living. Our cottage has also been lovingly restored and furnished with beach goers in mind.

Hadley purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Hadley chose Narragansett area

Because it's one of the best locations in the Pier.

What makes this cottage unique

Sunsets, sunrises, walk to beach, salty air, ocean waves and walks on the sea wall.

Great location and owners.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with my family of 4, and mother inlaw and another couple. plenty of room. super new and clean and the owners are the nicest people who are there if you need them, but also you would not even know they lived next door. lots of towels, boogie boards chairs beach umbrellas etc. We loved the deck . Though the house is very flash, clean and nice decor it is very kid friendly as my 6 year old could feel at home there. The smaller bedroom upstairs air conditioner was not working to well and they were very attentive to help resolve it. 5 minute walk to the beach. thanks for the nice stay.

The Perfect Cottage for a Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Hadley Cottage in July! Paul and Diane could not have been more gracious. They even checked in daily to hear if we needed anything!

The house was perfect for 5 adults and 1 child. Walking distance to everything!

I hope to get back there when we visit RI again!

Vacation Ruined

  • 1 of 5

A very important detail that the listing neglects to mention is that the cottage is actually a mother-in-law unit attached to a larger house where the owners live year-round.

I have honestly never in my life been treated so disrespectfully as I was by the owners, specifically the wife, Diane. We had a misunderstanding that led her to literally scream in our faces for 3 days straight, mock and threaten us and try to extort thousands of dollars from us -- essentially ruining the vacation for me, my husband, our newborn son, my sister and her twins babies and my parents.

I'll be the first to admit that we were in the wrong -- we had planned an afternoon BBQ party in the backyard in honor of my sister getting married the week prior. We invited about 60 guests and we didn't ask permission from the owners beforehand, which we should have done. They had every right to be upset and every right to insist we cancel the party.

However, as soon as the owners found out about it, rather than sit down with us face-to-face like mature adults and discuss what to do, they became irate and completely impossible to communicate with.

Diane yelled at us in front of our infant son and slammed the door in our faces multiple times. She and Paul made it seem as though we could still have the party by renting a port-o-potty, which we did, and even then she continued to threaten us that she'd changed her mind and that we couldn't have the party. At this point, we were 24 hours away from the event and incredibly stressed. She then insisted that in order to have the party, we needed to pay an additional $5,000. Now, we had gladly agreed to sign anything that made us liable for any damages, but this extra "fee" in the eleventh hour just felt like extortion.

We weren't a bunch of college fraternity guys trying to throw a late-night rager. We are a mature and responsible family with newborn babies and elderly parents with canes. Our party guests were all families with little kids and retirees. We had ordered a professional caterer to handle all the food, drinks, garbage and cleanup.

We ended up at the last minute finding a relative's backyard to have the party, and we had to move everything there and alert all the guests with less than 24 hours notice.

The house itself is great, but there were a few issues. The owner's dog let's himself in and out as he pleases, the A/C is loud and it was hard to sleep with it on, and we often didn't have enough hot water for showers.

Owner's Response: A more important detail the guest neglects to mention is that at no time in the initial request to book or in the many months that followed, that they we planning a WEDDING on the property in clear violation of house rules. Our first knowledge of the event came when the truck arrived to deliver tables and chairs for 60, a chuppah (something not normally seen at an "afternoon BBQ"), and a 20'x30' tent to be staked into the yard for the next 4 days. One would think that at some point during all of this planning...booking caterers, renting banquet equipment, inviting guests, etc...they would have considered notifying us of their plans. Had that happened, there would have been time to make alternate arrangements for the wedding, and we would have refunded their money so they could seek other accommodations. That would have been the "mature and responsible" route to take, and nobody would have had their "vacation ruined." I'm not going to get into the dishonest nature of the majority of this review. I'm not interested in debating deceitful depiction of events. I'm not going to address the personal attacks, mischaracterizations and misrepresentations littered throughout the review. I will let the previous twenty-five 5-Star reviews speak for themselves as to the pride we take in our accommodations and how we treat our guests. I will however address the last sentence of the review as it is the only part relevant to our cottage. The Retriever cannot open doors. The window A/C unit has been replaced. And we are upgrading from a standard residential hot water tank to a tankless hot water system in the off-season.

Fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

We just had the most fantastic week at Hadley's seaside cottage. Upon arrival we were greeted with a spotlessly clean living space. There were cookies and a blueberry loaf waiting on the table for us. The space was perfect. We had my 88yr old mom with us and I needed a first floor bedroom and bath so she wouldn't have to go up and down stairs. Plenty of towels for us. Beach chairs beach towels etc. the place is so comfortable. Plenty of room for 5 people. Great kitchen. Beds were comfyAnd the washer and dryer came in handy. We could walk to the beach and into town. The deck outside was great. Beautiful flowers! Diane is so sweet and helpful too. I can't say enough good things. We will definitely be back!

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at the Hadley Cottage. The owners were there if you needed them but gave you your privacy. The home was tastefully decorated and within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. I would recommend this as a place to stay in Naragansette it was like your own home. It was clean comfortable. The deck was wonderful. Thank you Diane & Paul for sharing your piece of paradise with my family. Debbie Rodway June 2017
