I will start this with the positives. Jackie and Greg were great leading up to the trip. They were extremely friendly and offered many great recommendations of places to go and see on our trip. The exterior of the property is fantastic: gorgeous lake-front setting, excellent beach, and a fabulous wrap-around deck.
The inside of the property leaves many things to be desired. Upon arrival, there was visible dirt and dead insects spread throughout the home. We spent most of our first hour there assembling the ancient vacuum located at the property to clean. There were also a large amount of live insects, mainly mosquitoes and moths, inside the home. Two of the beds looked recently slept in, and there was sand located in the bottom of both bath tubs. Needless to say, we cleaned the bathrooms and washed all the sheets. Not an ideal first experience. Either the $100 cleaning fee customers pay gets the owners very little, or someone was in this home without their knowing.
Second day of our stay there was a wind storm that lasted for almost 12 hours, during a long stretch of which we lost power. As evening approached, I sent an email to the owner alerting her of the situation. As of this posting, I still have not received a response (we are approaching 48 hours). I've spent a lot of time in Northern Michigan on the lake shore. Heavy sustained winds and loss of power are quite common, but after searching high and low in the house we were only able to find a small, barely functioning flashlight and one small candle. We went to the store and bought more candles. Thankfully around 9 pm the power came back on, but I was not impressed with the lack of response.
On the outside this rental delivers on all of its promises, which is the only reason this is not getting 1 star.
Inside of house was clean. Beautiful view of the lake. Beds were very small and extremely uncomfortable. No there complaints about the home besides that and the outside needing to be cleaned up. In a very secluded area and far from surrounding area. I will move than likely not recommend to a friend
We were very impressed with the house and the view out the back door. The only complaint we had was that the mattresses could use an upgrade.
There was firewood, kitchen supplies, all linens and a washer and dryer available.
This was a beautiful house and we would definitely stay again.
The only negatives :
Broken beer bottles in the water ; we had kids swimming.
Also no trash can.
I want to give a higher rating, but unfortunately, we arrived and the house hadn't been cleaned, a real mess. The owner admitted that she hadn't notified the cleaning lady. So, after driving for 8+ hours, we had to spend over 3 hours cleaning. Cleaning lady finally arrived and she spent 2 hours. I will say that Jackie was very gracious and refunded some of our money for the inconvenience. We did advise her that someone had tried to break into the property recently, busting up the side door and frame. One of the doors/windows on deck is busted at bottom, resulting in rain, debri blowing in under onto the carpet. As far as location, LOVED IT! The only thing I would change is the beds, they were very uncomfortable! If a few maintenance items were completed, and the beds replaced, I would def consider staying here again, as the location/beach, etc is a huge bonus for us with our dogs. I did advise the owner that if she would be interested in selling, we would be VERY interested in talking to her about buying as a vacation property for us. Loved proximity to nearby towns/restaurants.
