Rental lacks common household goods and is in disrepair.

This Pasadena rental had several shortcomings:

Floors, area rugs, windows, and shower curtain were dirty.  A broom was provided, but no dustpan, no mop and no vacuum.

Only one set of keys provided when two persons were on the lease.  No mailbox key provided.  We requested additional keys, which were eventually provided, but we'd already had another set made out of necessity (we were reimbursed).

Large leak under kitchen sink (which was repaired).

Kitchen:  No can opener, vegetable peeler, corkscrew, frying pans, dish drainer, ice trays, pot holders or dish towels.  Insufficient silverware - only 1 teaspoon, 3 butter knives, 4 forks and 4 tablespoons.

Bedrooms:  No dressers or chests for clothes storage.

No dirty clothes basket, iron, or ironing board.

No extra bed sheets provided, only the sheets that were on the beds.

No cable or satellite provided, you must make your own arrangements.

The couch in the living room is broken in three spots, when you sit in any of the three spots you sink very low into the couch.

The unit shares wifi with the rental unit (unit #11) directly below them, if the wifi needs a reboot you may need to disturb your neighbor.

The parking space provided in the underground garage had water leak issues. There were a few dripping issues from the ceiling which left calcium stains on our car.

This rental does have several nice perks:

The stove, refrigerator, microwave, and toaster are nice and work well.

The unit is about a 3 minute walk to the South Lake Avenue shopping district which has three grocery store options, numerous restaurants and a Macys Department Store. The Target Store is less than a 10 minute walk.

Pretty austere, but some qualities too

This flat is well-located, near many restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, and more - everything a short walk away. The amenities were bare minimum. You will not be cooking - no food of any sort, no salt, pepper, cooking oil, spices - literally nothing. No pot holder, only four of each item like silverware and coffee mugs. No wine glasses. I asked about a coffee maker beforehand and they provided one, but with no filters. I used the French press coffee maker they had, which was fine. The kitchen sink backed up the last day, even though the only thing that had gone down it was coffee grounds.

The flat was super-clean and the beds were comfortable. But it's in an old apartment complex; you will not feel in the lap of luxury in any way. Various tobacco smells waft in and out from other flats. Our flat, #17, was on the end of the building, as is #11. If you were in one of the flats in the middle, there would be much less fresh air. The interior of the flat has been re-done and doesn't seem worn-out.

There was a TV, but we did not use it (or try to). It had no DVD player - looked like just TV. The WiFi was solid.

We did not see any owner/manager the whole time. Let yourself in with a lockbox key they give you the code for, and let yourself out. They took 9 days to return the security deposit; maybe that's normal for HomeAway, but it seemed excessive.

All in all, I thought the flat was somewhat expensive for what you get. I mainly felt that they were trying to extract the most money possible for the least hospitality.

Great location, clean property

This is a great property for the price. There are shops and restaurants within walking distance. The property was clean, quiet and well maintained. I would recommend this property.
