About the property

A writer's home in lovely 1803 neighborhood is 10-minute walk to downtown's best

This writer’s 1803 home in lovely Rockland neighborhood is a leisurely 10-minute walk to downtown and the waterfront.

Thoughtful renovations have given the rooms renewed life, with fresh paint on the walls and floors, cottaged furniture, and new beds with crisp linens. The charming space offers a first floor kitchen stocked with cooking equipment and tableware, two separate dining areas, a living room with inviting furniture, and a utility closet with washer/dryer combo. The second floor has a master bedroom with queen bed, an upstairs parlor/bedroom with a full bed and sitting area, and a simple bathroom. A flagstone patio and lawns invite outdoor relaxation.

The ocean sparkles at the end of this quiet block, and Prosehaven’s off-street parking area offers the perfect spot to leave the car after a day exploring midcoast. Stroll downtown and discover Rockland’s museums, restaurants, marina, quirky shops, festivals, boardwalk, and nightlife.

Strong wifi, smart tv, and even smarter books available, and please do browse the bookshelves.

Best for adults who appreciate historic buildings, don’t mind stairs, and favor the idiosyncratic.
Writers and artists find Prosehaven a perfect and productive home for creative work. Readers and others in search of real relaxation never want to leave.

Fabulous place to stay with a fabulous host!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely house in an ideal location with the best host ever! Beautifully furnished, it is clean, comfortable, and ever so "New England." At Prose Haven, you are truly walking distance from the exquisite offerings of Rockland, ME, the Arts Capital of the Great State of Maine. World class galleries, museums, eateries, shops, and architecture-- my God, the architecture!-- is almost beyond belief in a town of 7,200 people. I sent a friend of mine a picture of Main Street, and he said, "That's not a town, that's a movie set!" Thank you Maureen, and Prose Haven, for the best Home Away I have ever had!

Wonderful location, so handy to everything that is great about Rockland!

  • 4 of 5

Maureen made us feel at home and gave helpful information about this organized and well equipped house which made comings and goings a breeze. Guests should know that this 1804 house has tight and narrow stairs and passages, the bathroom being especially cramped. This is a very affordable accommodation.

Welcoming and warm. Homely and charming. Clean and professional. We were very comfortable and happy.

We are from Ireland and felt right at home there. The property is so close to town yet feels like a perfect quiet little getaway once back.

Everything works and the property owner Maureen was so accommodating to all our needs.

The only bad thing about the experience was having to leave the beautiful house at the end of or stay :)

Owner's Response: I'm delighted you and Sarah enjoyed Prosehaven so much, Chris, and I do hope you can return sometime soon. What a treat to read that you found Prosehaven cosy enough to deem it homely. That's a wonderful compliment from my Irish friends. You know how many welcomes will await your next visit, of course. Thank you again.

Cozy, convenient get-away in Rockland

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely weekend in Rockland in this great cottage. Maureen was a welcome and gracious host with lots of suggestions for our visit, and the cottage was convenient to all the downtown attractions.

Great Spot !

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much.

ProseHaven offers spacious and comfortable accommodations,

essentially a duplex format, with your own kitchen, dining/living,

and (2)bed/bath space.

Maureen was very courteous and helpful as host, offering dining and recreational recommendations, and very respectful of our privacy.

It was an easy walk into resourceful Downtown Rockland, with the Farnsworth (Wyeth) Museum, good dining and shopping !

We loved our stay in mid-coast Maine ! We recommend it very highly !

Prosehaven was an amazing place to stay in Rockland.

  • 5 of 5

The proprietor is the greatest and the property itself was charming and perfect for my needs, and probably yours. Quiet but close to town. Plenty of space both inside and on the outside patio. I would certainly stay again!
