|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
Luxury villa offers spectacular ocean views and modern accommodations with 5 deluxe bedrooms on 2 ocean-view levels, both fully equipped and great for large groups. Beautiful new pool with ocean views from both the pool deck and within the pool! A terrace on the upper level has an additional living and dining area with sweeping views of St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Culebra. There is always a lovely breeze blowing and at night the other islands sparkle in the near distance.
Hilltop Hacienda is less than a 5-minute walk to quiet, secluded Bastimento beach where wild horses often roam. Take your morning coffee or practice your yoga down there, but be sure to return for the spectacular sunsets over the water, which can also be seen from the villa.
There are fully-equipped kitchens and two televisions on each level, as well as wi-fi. All 5 bedrooms have split-unit quiet air conditioners and there is a washer/dryer on premises. Beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers and towels are all available for your daily adventures. The property manager lives a mere 100-yards away and will provide an orientation to the villa and be available should you need him.
The villa is in a very quiet section of Vieques -- you will not hear roosters crowing! However, town is merely 2 miles away and the famous unspoiled, white crescent beaches on the south side of the island are reachable in a 10 or 15-minute drive.
Hilltop Hacienda can also be rented as a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom villa for up to 5 people. (Your group would have the property and pool all to yourself, though, and not share with other renters.)
Picture yourself enjoying the villa's "million-dollar" views as a warm Caribbean breeze blows through the coconut palms, bougainvillea and hibiscus that surround the property. The perfect Caribbean getaway!
I'd been living in Manhattan for 31 years, since graduating from university. After four hectic and stressful careers -- yes, four! -- as an actor, film agent, writer, and, currently, as a public defender, I longed to find a Caribbean haven that wasn't wall-to-wall resort hotels, and where beaches looked as they did for millennia. I wanted a community that lives at a slower pace and seems out of another time -- yes, I'll say it, a "simpler time." I don't need 146 different brands of cereal in my grocery store or a 16-plex movie theater or a mall. Well, at least not all the time!
Vieques is all of those things and so much more. Two-thirds of the island is a nature preserve, there is not a single traffic light, and about 3,000 horses wander freely. There are so many deserted beaches and forest-canopied mountain roads, too. I became a certified diver just a few years ago and discovered a whole new world, one that Vieques also offers. I never knew I would feel such an affinity for 80-year old hawksbill sea turtles! But, honestly, more than anything, Vieques is a state of mind. Whether you're walking on her pristine beaches, feeling the refreshing ocean breeze, diving deep in her crystal waters, or smelling the many colorful, fragrant flowers, Vieques helps you to remember what's really important in life . . .
Ed Wintle purchased this villa in 2015
Hilltop Hacienda's 180-degree water views are truly stunning. You cannot forget for a moment that you're on a small island surrounded by turquoise seas. The villa's close proximity to the water and its perch high up on a hill keeps it blessed with cooling sea breezes 24/7. Just watching the giant sky roll by, affecting the light and the ever-changing hues of the sea, is thoroughly enthralling. One needn't do more.
Hilltop's pool played a big part in my choosing this property. It's new and beautifully done, finely-tiled and edged by coral stone. There is a built-in seat from which you can see the turquoise water! Plus, I love to stargaze at night and, I must say, there is no better way than on your back floating in a perfectly-temperate pool!
Besides being in excellent condition, Hilltop Hacienda is located in one of Vieques' quieter neighborhoods. There are no roosters here, unlike in most other areas, and the neighbors were very friendly and welcoming. Even though the villa is at the far east end of the island, it's a very quick drive to town and an easy and pretty drive to the beaches in the nature preserve and Esperanza. Oh, and the wonderful reviews the prior owners received from their guests had a little something to do with my choice!
Last but not least, I'd always wanted to live close enough to a beach that I could walk down with my morning coffee and maybe do some yoga, maybe meditate. Or maybe just sit and stare at the sea and the sky. I never dreamed I'd be sharing it with wild horses that gracefully saunter through!
5 minute walk to beach
Great property. Perfect. Everyhing you need for a fantastic stay in Vieques
Very clean and inviting. Ron(property manager) was great and extremely acommodating. Recommend 100%.
My family and I had a fabulous stay at Hilltop Hacienda! The home was perfect for us -- four adult couples and two small children -- and was managed and prepared better than any rental property I've stayed in before. The team was communicative in advance of our trip, which helped us plan it just right. The property manager met us at the rental car company and led us to the house then walked us through to give us all the information we needed. There were ample materials in the house to educate us about beaches and restaurants, and the kitchens were very well equipped -- all the better for grilling fresh spiny lobsters! The pool is ideal for children and adults alike, and the view cannot be beat. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and we enjoyed the games and books provided. The provided beach chairs, umbrellas, and coolers made our beach days easy and lovely. When we encountered a problem with a faulty shower head, the property manager responded immediately and took care of it right away. I would stay at Hilltop Hacienda again any time, and my whole family is grateful to our hosts for making our vacation unforgettable!
Hilltop Hacienda was the perfect property for our family vacation. The furnishings and accommodations were great. Our family was a group of 9 which included a baby, toddler and 3 year old and the two levels of living fit us perfect. Nice pool, we used the grill and both kitchens, comfy beds and appreciated all the beach chairs for our adventures. Wonderful beach within walking distance. The owners and property manager were very responsive. We love the island of Vieques as this is our 3rd visit and we plan on returning. The only reason I did not give the Hilltop Hacienda an excellent rating was the barking dog at night next door. We did address it with the property manager and he handled the situation, most likely the dog issue is a nonissue by now!
The Hilltop Hacienda is gorgeous. It's spacious and beautiful and so comfortable for a small intimate vacation or a group getaway. There is a beautiful upper balcony that has an amazing view of the ocean; on clear days you can see nearby islands. Everything you could possibly need to have a wonderful time is on site. The property manager and owner are so personable and helpful. They responded promptly to any concern we had. (There weren't many.) Ed knows all the best of Vieques, we were so happy we took his recommendations. Vieques is beautiful and relaxing and offers fun activities and the most beautiful pristine beaches. You can be around a lot of people or more isolated, as you choose. Check out the black sand beach, it's beautiful, especially at sunset.
Vieques is paradise on earth, and Hilltop Hacienda is the perfect way to enjoy it. Perched high on a hill just a short walk to the beach below, the house offers spectacular views of the ocean from every part of the house, even the pool. Nestled in a quiet residential area, the house offers peace and tranquility, as well as incredible views of the natural surroundings. There's even a family of "wild" ponies (who are adorable and completely harmless) who wander past the house from time to time. The house is close to many of the gorgeous, quiet beachs -- many of which you can practically have to yourself!-- and also just a short drive to town and several great restaurants.
We also found the owner and property managers to be extremely helpful available to answer questions about the island and to make suggestions regarding travel logistics and jeep rentals. The house is well-appointed, and comes with a well-furnished kitchen for those who like to cook, as well as beach umbrellas and other "beach toys".
If you've never been to Vieques, this is your chance to visit one of the few Caribbean Islands that is still low-key and relatively undeveloped, with just enough hotels, grocery stores and restaurants to make your visit comfortable and entertaining without having to battle crowds. It's like Tulum before the tourist buses arrived!
The house is very well situated, on a hill, with a panoramic view of the sea ! It is also super close to the beach, and the town of Isabel Segundo. It is well maintained, and clean, perfect to spend a vacation with friends or family. The island is an amazing surprise and offer ones of the most beautiful beaches. There are very nice restaurants too. Highly recommended !
The villa sits high atop a hill in the quiet eastern end of Vieques, in Barrio Villa Borinquen. It is just off the tail end of Rte. 200, which is well maintained, so Vieques' most famous beaches are a short, easy drive away. (You do not have to drive through the often congested ferry terminal area, as you would for a villa in Barrio Bravos de Boston!)
Quiet, secluded Bastimento Beach is a 5-minute walk from the house. You can swim (tidal pool is great for little ones), enjoy spectacular sunsets over the water, and watch the wild horses gallop through.
The island's main town, Isabel Segunda, is less than 2 miles away. Still quaint and authentically Caribbean, the town has art galleries, several top-notch restaurants, grocery/liquor stores, a post office, a gourmet store, adorable boutiques, and Blackbeard Sports (to arrange Bio Bay tours and other island adventures).
Vieques' museum, which is housed in an 18th Century fort, is also nearby.
