THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

Cape Island contains the municipalities of West Cape May, Cape May and Cape May Point. The apartment is centrally located in an historic residential neighborhood.

Cape Island offers BEAUTIFUL VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURE. Cape May is a federally designated National Historic Landmark (NHL). There are about 2500 NHLs in the USA. Most of them are single buildings. Cape May is on as a landmark district because of the concentration of Victorian architecture.

Cape May's beaches are unique, especially for the Jersey Shore, in that they are south facing. You can watch the sun rise and set without ever losing sight of the ocean. Unlike the barrier island beaches that face east, since Cape May is not a barrier island, you don't get the biting flies that often are swept in from the wetlands with a westerly breeze.

Other Cape May accolades include:

~~ One of the TOP 20 FOOD CITIES IN THE USA (Conde Nast Traveler)

~~ One of the TOP TEN US BEACHES by THE TRAVEL CHANNEL

~~ TOPS THE LIST of "The 10 MOST BEAUTIFUL COASTAL TOWNS IN THE USA" published by

~~ One of the 10 BEST BIRDWATCHING SPOTS IN THE USA by USA Today

~~ One of the 9 BEST BEACH TOWNS FOR FOOD (IN THE WORLD) by The Daily Meal

~~ The Cove Beach, Cape May, New Jersey; One of 21 Best Beaches by Coastal Living

~~ SEVEN SMALL SEASIDE TOWNS THAT YOU NEED TO VISIT (Tula's Endless Summer)

~~ Top Birdwatching Spots in the World by Travel Pulse

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Accomodations were clean and perfect for two! Having the private front porch was really nice. We enjoyed coffee in the morning and a cool drink in the evening. The location was great. We walked to the center of Cape May, antique stores, deli, liquor store and restaurants. Bring your bikes! It is an easy bike ride to the lighthouse, World War II Tower and Sunset Beach. Suzanne gave us great pointers on restaurants. Our favorites were Freda's Cafe and The Emmitt Room (best calamari!!). We definitely plan to be back.

I enjoyed this apartment and my time in Cape May. This place is cozy, clean and well appointed with all the comforts of home. I am joyed the West Cape May location and my walks around town. The owner is very hospitable. While I was alone, it would be perfect for a couple.

Perfect for birders

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is ideally located for a birder wishing a private place to stay not too far from the hotspots of Cape May. It is no more than 7-8 minutes from the hawk watch, Higbee, the Meadows, the Beanery etc.

It is pet-friendly, which was wonderful for me, as I do not like to leave my elderly dog behind. The gracious owner even gave my pooch treats and belly rubs!

The apartment itself has everything one or two people would need. There is a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, comfortable recliner and a small but well-equipped kitchen. I cooked all my meals, and other than a tea kettle I lacked nothing.

The front porch does indeed overlook Broadway and thus traffic during the day, but the place was plenty quiet at night and there is a side yard to sit during the day if desired.

There is a lot of information provided about restaurants and shopping nearby, though I did not take advantage. The owner lives on site and is very friendly and available to answer questions and make recommendations.

I would happily stay here again.
