Sabina is a heaven of peace and tranquillity, visiting it is like taking a step back in time. It can boast of the most stunning landscape of Lazio Region and many spectacular medieval-romanesque castles. That date back to the 10th or 11th centuries. To mention only a few, Castello Orsini in Nerola, Castello Ducale in Fiano Romano, Castello Catino, Castello Baronale in Montenero Sabino, Castello di Rocchettine, Castello Savelli in Palombara Sabina and the imposing Castle of Roccasinibalda, which is the most significant example of military architecture in Upper Sabina. The whole village is shaped as a fortified hamlet and the fascination of this place encoureged throughout the centuries the belief in mysterious voices and apparitions. In the heart of Sabina, 30 minutes by car from Montelibretti, in a mystic athmosphere of silence, stands the Abbey of Farfa. Its firs foundation took place around the middle of the 6th century. In 1928 the Abbey was declared national monument for its architecural and artistic beauty and nowadays thousands of visitors go to Farfa to admire the cultural and artistic heritage and to spend some time in its peaceful atmosphere to rest their mind and soul.
