The Smith Homestead in Alford, Massachusetts has been in our family for well over two hundred years and was once a dairy farm. We are located in one of the nicest settings in the Berkshires, with over 25 acres of fields and woods, and the crystal clear Alford Brook running through. We provide accommodations for single or double occupancy in our East Room suite, composed of a sitting room with fireplace, a spacious bedroom and a luxurious spa bath. We have wireless internet access. We offer a light breakfast of coffee, tea, along with fresh seasonal fruits with yogurt and or granola, fresh croissants and bread.
Take hikes through our fields and woods. Look for wildlife. The bird watching is great, I love to see the bluebirds especially. We are minutes away from Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Kripalu, and many other Berkshire attractions. Great restaurants are nearby in the surrounding area.
Come stay with us, relax in the quiet, the calm, the babbling brook. We are sure you will be pleased!

Wonderfully friendly hosts, idyllic setting
We had a great time at Susan and Tom's place in Alford, on our trip to the Berkshires to spend some time at Tanglewood. The guest room with its own new bath is very private and comfortable. Susan provides a delicious breakfast and their dog Beanie is a delight, always willing to play fetch with you or show you the scenery just out the door. We had very nice conversations with both Susan and Tom and they are truly accommodating and experienced hosts, eager to tell you about nearby sites and trails or talk about any other subject. Highly recommended!
Thank you, Anthony! You two are delightful and we enjoyed hosting you! Come back anytime!
Susan and Tom
Country comfort close to everything you'll want to experience in the Berkshires!
Susan's suite in her family homestead was the perfect combo of luxury and bucolic surroundings! The bed was comfy and the bathroom luxuriously appointed. We enjoyed eating our delicious and bountiful "continental" breakfast each morning in the sitting area. With so many activities and dining options nearby it was easy to plan our days and we were always happy to return to our cozy suite on the farm! We would recommend to anyone interested in a stay in the Berkshires!!
Good as advertised
Great hosts and living quarters. Enjoyed playing with the dog! I passed by the house a couple of times... trust your GPS!
Peaceful stay in the country side!
On top of a beautiful setting in the country Susan made us coffee and banana bread.
Thank you, Marc and Kate! I enjoyed meeting you both! You are welcome back anytime!
Peace and quiet in the mountains.
Susan and Tom have a great place to share and are wonderful hosts. The room is clean, cozy, and filled with light. The breakfasts that Susan made were very good, with fresh baked goods and fresh fruit. And, we loved playing with their dog Beanie. If we have the chance we would love to stay again!
not too far from the madding crowd
we so enjoyed the country roads that brought us to the smith homestead and the two owners, tom and susan, and their border collie beanie. we felt so close to nature here, the night sky over tbe farm is magnificent. we are especially thankful to tom and susan for the fire pit visit with them we had on our last night there. good company. the suite was very comfortable and the breakfasts got our days off to a good start. we didn;t even think of eating until 3o'clock each day! 5 minutes to great barrington, 15 to lenox and maybe 30 to pittsfield in the middle of the day. thank you tom and susan for a lovely way to celebrate an occasion. we hope to see you again.
