Why S. V. chose Upper Rockridge
Adore the neighborhood and loved the "urban cottage" feel!

What a wonderful stay we had!
A beautiful and cozy house for our family of five. The perfect hotel alternative!
We were greeted by our host and given a brief tour of her fabulous home. She left us with detailed instructions/notes about the property and great tips about the neighbourhood (great restaurant suggestions, where to buy groceries, coffee, etc...). The house was immaculate and really well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. We were also greeted with a bottle of wine, a supply of coffee, and a delicious cake to enjoy! There was a great supply of toys, books, and craft materials for our kids. There was also a basketball hoop on the street (ball provided) that the kids loved playing with.
All of the beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms and kitchen are beautifully renovated, and the property has lovely outdoor spaces to sit with a coffee and enjoy.
The house is situated in a beautiful and safe neighbourhood. Shops, restaurants, and activities are just a short drive away.
As a family of five it is often difficult to find a hotel that will accommodate our group. This house was a perfect hotel alternative. We could prepare food at home when needed, have the use of multiple bathrooms, have access to laundry, let the kids play while the adults relaxed, enjoy quiet time in the evenings while our kids slept...a perfect holiday!
Our host was always easy to contact, if needed, and very pleasant to deal with. We would love to stay here again if we’re back in the area visiting.
Nice, cozy house in Oakland
It is a nice, clean, cozy house in a nice area. It is kind of a hilly area that is confusing to drive around, but it is fairly close to a lot of things (grocery stores, parks, the Oakland Zoo, UC Berkeley). The only issues with the house are that there are no shades on the windows and it isn't the greatest house for a dog, since there is no grassy area and there are no sidewalks around the house. If those things don't bother you, then it is quite the nice house.
LOCATION: Oakland's Upper Rockridge community is a lovely, peaceful, affluent neighborhood with lush landscaping, architecturally diverse homes (typically about $1.2-$5 million), friendly, well educated neighbors and a top K-8 school in the East Bay.
You're 3 mins drive from charming Montclair Village, 5 mins drive from Glenview Village, less than 10 mins from shopping/dining destinations like College Ave, Piedmont Ave, Temescal, and Grand/Lakeshore. Upper Rockridge is bordered by Piedmont and Montclair - very lovely communities too. This house feels not urban - it's so quiet, you hear birds all day and no traffic noise. But you're less than 10 mins from many hip restaurants and boutiques in Oakland and Berkeley. Oakland is quite the mecca for cocktails, food/wine, and locavore cuisine these days!
Central Berkeley and the UCB campus is 20 mins away. San Francisco is 30 mins away by car, unless you're at a commute time, in which case longer - but this is a very good commute location. You're an hour from Napa and the Wine Country. 45 mins from Marin County and cute towns like Tiburon and Sausalito. And you can be at some of the most stunning beaches in Northern CA in 60-90 mins, if you want an adventure.
