Overview

About the property

The Watauga River Cabinito is available for hurricane evacuees at discount rate

A lovely little cabin resting on the sun speckled banks of the Watauga River. Nestled between the AWA takeout for the Watauga Gorge Run & Cherokee National Forest. At the end of a dirt road and over a little creek & you find The Cabinito awaiting you. As you walk in to our small cozy cabin from the front or back porch you enter the kitchen/living/dining room. From there you can see a bathroom and 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and a tv/dvd, and one with a double/twin bunk bed. Above the bedrooms there is a loft with a queen bed, a low ceiling and the couch that folds out into a double bed. Out the back door the creek cascades down into the river and where they meet you will find kayaks, intertubes, and a little swim hole. Hike around the river for some big swim holes and perfect fishing spots. Or take a short drive down the road 3 miles to the Watauga Lake and Pioneer Landing Marina. Located 18 miles (30 minutes) to Boone NC and 35 miles (1hour) drive to Johnson City or Bristol TN. There is spotty cell reception at the cabinito; closest reception is 2 miles away. No internet but it does have an honest land line that will call anyone you might want to talk to. Take a break and enjoy the reprise from cell phones ringing & internet pinging and enjoy the dappled sunlight and the pristine waters of Watuga river, one of the most beautiful rivers in the Appalachian mountains! Included in the rental price are the options for kayaks and bicycles!!!...so you're getting a virtual adventure package when you choose to rent the Cabinito!!

About Owner/Manager

We are offering travelers who are evacuating for the hurricane a discounted rate as our cabin has become available during this week.

Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Owner/Manager chose Butler

We have a 24 acre farm on the Watauga River and when the opportunity arose to purchase additional acreage with a cabin bordering our farm, we didnt hesitate even a moment because we know how beautiful the cabin and its surroundings are and secondly because of the rarity of the opportunity. We love renovating, building and decorating... the Cabinito offered us all that and more! We're enjoying the process of seeing it become more and more hospitable with amenities being added frequently.

What makes this cabin unique

The feeling of being away from it all in a rustic cabin with old growth trees and a wild river flowing gives us a feeling of relaxation unparalleled by other vacation experiences. Bordered on the Cherokee National forest you are literally away from development and the disappointment of stumbling on a housing development or strip mall in the middle of nowhere. If you enjoy deep relaxation, you will find it here. And don't forget that included in the rental price are options for boats and bicycles!

Slice of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Cabinito! The river and the marked trails leading to the rapids and other swimming holes were awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your home! The kayaks were a lot of fun too! My only disappointment were no Pillows... so make sure you bring them from home. Other than that... it was perfect! We definitely want to visit again!

The lack of Cell phone reception and internet made this weekend even more fun! No distractions !!!!

It was a disaster!

I reserved this cabin for me and my 2 sons for a getaway before school started back, and had paid all my $ in full. The owner Mike Nelson sent me a message saying that he would contact me before our arrival to give me the code so I could get key to get in cabin. Well, after driving over 3 hours to get there, the owner Mike & _Nova Nelson were nowhere to be found nor were they even nearby, they were on their vacation. And he never contacted me to let me know what the code was to get key and after calling his restaurant in No one NC and got his wife's number from an employee, and I had to leave multiple messages on her phone as well as his with no response, a young lady finally drove down there to let us in and that was at 6pm when check in was at 3pm. I sent message with the young lady that mike sent down there, that he was very unprofessional and very rude not to even communicate with me about the key. And I assume that she relayed my message BC he didn't hesitate to call me right away with his arrogant attitude and after we had a few words, he told me and my 2 kids had to leave his property or he would call the police. So I contacted home away they were blown away with Mikes behavior and they put me and my 2 kids up at a hotel in Banner Elk.at home way cost. I was very greatful for home away going above and beyond to help me and my kids out with a place to stay. And I had to dispute the bank in order to get full refund. I have traveled all over the US and a lot of other countries and never have I experienced anything like this ever! He had already received my payment in full and was too busy having fun on his vacation with family and could have cared less about our vacation that he ruined for me and my 2 boys! I would not recommend renting a raft from this dude much less his cabin! And that cabin has some rather large cracks in it, where snakes or anything can come right on in.. I would definitely look at the other properties on Watagua lake or plan s camping trip before I would stay there, much less even deal with such an arrogant person that don't care about how others vacation turn out just as long as he's enjoying his with family time! But I am a true believer in Karma Mike &Nova Nelson! And I also screenshot all the messages that he sent about me and my kids needs to leave his property or he will call police and when I asked about my refund he told me to take it up with home a way, but he had already received his$ if anyone needs to see

Awesome cabin. Great for kids... zip lines, kayaks, nice hiking trail right out side the front door, swimming holes right out the back door... was a minor hickup with previous tennants having to check out late. Owners contacted me quickly and asked if I could shift our 3 day stay to the right 1 day and even offered a 4th day free for any inconvenience. Cabin was nice, clean, fresh smelling, and everything u could need out side of your own personal belongings. We would definetly stay here again.

Perfect seclusion getaway

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for somewhere secluded in the mountains and did we find it! The Cabinito is perfect if you are looking for seclusion, beautiful views, and a serene river just steps away. We kayaked majority of the time and enjoyed trying the zip line. We were also blessed with hundreds of butterflies along the river, just beautiful! The deck is perfect for a sunrise, sunset or listening to the rain. Our weekend away from all the distractions of today was exactly what we needed and we can't wait to return. Oh and our two dogs had a blast too, it is a little steep to get to the river but our dogs had no issues slowly walking down to the dock area.

Thanks for letting us stay and enjoy this special place Mike!

I could move in permanently!

  • 5 of 5

It's like the tree house you wanted to build as a kid at the edge of the water. The cabin was cozy. Excellent outdoor grill. Waterfalls, outdoor string lights, fishing poles, kayaks and cool places to swim and fish. We will be back. Had a blast!
