Don and Leslie Roth live in Laramie, Wyoming. Don is a retired professor and administrator at University of Wyoming. Leslie also works at UW and is a former junior high Reading teacher. They are avid hikers and skiers who have explored most of the back country in the area. They have 3 children and 6 grand children who love Thistle Dew.
Leslie Roth purchased this apartment in 2008
Don and Leslie Roth have lived in Wyoming since 1978. They purchased the 45 acres of land in Tetonia in 1996 to build a family vacation home. Thistle Dew Cabin was built by the Roths after 10 years of hard work. Thistle Dew Guest House was begun in 2008 and completed in 2009. It was built to accommodate a growing family of grandchildren who all love the area. Summer vacations and every other Christmas are now spent at Thistle Dew.
The property is surrounded by beauty and tranquility. It shares the 45 acres with Thistle Dew Cabin but it is totally unique. When the moon comes up behind the Tetons or the snow geese fly over head in the fall it is magical.
Overall a great experience by all accounts. If your intention is to get away and enjoy a spectacular setting then this is the place for you. My family (wife and 2 yo son) and I enjoyed every moment of our stay and the setting provided a wonderful backdrop to take in a beautiful part of the world. The property is nestled in beautiful fields and meadows with great amenities for kids and adults...like a full size tee-pee, sauna, and a bunkhouse which provides a great space for kids to name a few. We got the opportunity to make the trip in the fall to watch the leaves change color and see the Tetons get blanketed in snow thanks to a fall rainstorm in the valley. The location allowed us to visit Mesa Falls, Yellowstone, and Teton National Parks...and there is a rather long list of other inspiring locations all around. It also is a quick jaunt to Driggs which has all the food, gas, clothing needs you might encounter. The property has two rental sites and we stayed in the secondary guest house. Given the space requirements we needed this was perfect. The owners were very hospitable and provided very helpful information on our stay and local spots to check out and tips. We are looking forward to returning!
My family had a great time and everything was exactly (maybe even better than) as advertised. There are two properties but completely separate and we didn't even realize there was anyone else staying at the other property until 1/2 way through our stay. Would be incredible spot for larger groups to rent both properties.
Clean, cute, cozy, well stocked (and great kitchen), great size - everyone had room to spread out, and have access to a garage so we could pull out SUV in with the ski rack on (fit fine for mid-sized SUV but would be really tight for full-sized (i.e. - Suburban)) was incredibly helpful. We will definitely look to stay here again on our next ski trip out to Wyidaho.
We skied both Grand Targhee (4 days) and Jackson Hole (2 days) and it was a great location to access both - longer obviously to get to Jackson but no way around that.
My husband and I stayed in the Thistledew Guesthouse for 4 days in June, and we had a great time. The guesthouse was the perfect size for us, very homey and comfortable, and it had everything we needed. And I cannot say enough about the view! We sat on the deck every evening staring at the Tetons! The house is on 40 acres so we felt secluded, but it was just a very short drive into Driggs, which is a great, friendly little town. Plenty of wonderful restaurants, hiking and other activities on the Driggs side of the Tetons, but Jackson Hole is just an hour away. The owners are amazing, and I feel like we have made some new friends. I would definately stay here again and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Four of us visited Thistledew for a few days as a base for skiing and exploring the Grand Tetons area. What a find! Set on extensive acreage looking straight at the magnificent Grand Tetons. Yet only a few miles from the town of Driggs. The home is very comfortable and very well provisioned. Relaxing in the outdoor sauna was a highlight. Lyn and Don were fabulous hosts - welcoming and incredibly hospitable. I would highly recommend Thistledew to anyone who appreciates getting away from it all.
I stayed at Thistledew with my family for 9 days in December. It was amazing. We felt like welcome guests in someones family home. The house had everything you could ask for , impeccably clean and secluded , what enabled us to have time to ourselves with nothing to disturb us.The peace and quiet was especially appreciated when looking at amazing view from almost all windows of the house or relax in wood burning sauna.I would have no problem going up here every year.It could not be better.
We had a great winter vacation at Thistledew last winter. The apartment is attractive, warm, and comfortable and, best of all, has amazing views from every room. The skiing was excellent: groomed nordic trails, backcountry and downhill skiing are all close, as is the great little town of Driggs. Jackson Hole is just an hour away. We are returning for a longer stay this winter.
This area is a fishing, skiing, hiking, mountain biking paradise. Like to be outside and active? This is the place.
