About Michelle Chinnaiyan

We are a small family of four that enjoy travel, and the great outdoors. We personally vacation here every summer.

Michelle Chinnaiyan purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Michelle Chinnaiyan chose Downeast and Acadia

We fell in love with the beauty of the lake and the smell of the pine. Things feel simple here and relaxed. We can do a little of nothing all day, or just hop in the car for a short ride to Bar Harbor and Acadia.

What makes this cabin unique

Feel like a kid again with dips in the lake, casting a line for fish, a paddle around the lake, smores around campfires and exploring the beautiful property.

We had a very good time on Molassess Pond. Our two grandson had a ball fishing. The swimming wasn't that great because the water was so cold and too many boulders. The cabin was very clean. However the furniture was very bad. It will take my back weeks to recover.

Great cabin for an escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at the cabin and it was the perfect spot. The cabin was well equipped and had everything we needed. We enjoyed using the canoe on the lake. We stayed in cabin 1 and it was perfect for us.

So peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for quiet seclusion you can't do much better than this log cabin tucked away down a long driveway and right on Molasses Pond. It was a real pleasure hearing the water lapping at the shore right outside the door, and the dock was a great place to enjoy my morning coffee. The cabin is rustic and had everything we needed in case we wanted to cook, and the linens and towels were clean. You won't receive many channels with the antenna, and there is no wifi, but there are movies and games available. Our cell phone service (AT&T) was spotty at best, to completely unavailable many times, which adds to the sense of isolation. The cabin is about 30-35 minutes from the nearest town of any size (Ellsworth) depending on traffic, and about an hour from Bar Harbor. Something to be aware of: if you use a GPS to take you to points North (Lubec, for example) you may find yourself going left out of the driveway and over about 3 miles of dirt roads before hooking up with the paved George's Pond Road. Some sections of the dirt roads are more like Jeep roads, and might give some low clearance cars some trouble. To avoid this, make sure you turn on your Off Road avoidance feature on your GPS. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return if we wanted the solitude again. Oh, and we stayed in Cabin 1, which sits a little farther back then Cabin 2. The driveway is shared so you actually drive through Cabin 2's front yard to get to Cabin 1, so I think Cabin 1 is a better choice of the two. If you need wifi, cell phone service (which is actually spotty through much of Maine anyway), or to be closer to the Down East attractions you may want to stay closer to Ellsworth. Otherwise, Cry of the Loon is about as peaceful as you can get. Thank you!

Beautiful views! Lovely Cabin!

  • 4 of 5

Honastly the pictures and descriptions do not do this cabin justice. The cabin sits right on the lake and water can be seen from almost every window in the house. Each morning we'd come into the living room and say "WOW!". The lake truly surrounds the cabin, it almost appears as though you are floating on crystal clear blue water. Set back about 8 acres from a dirt road this really is a peaceful secluded vacation destination. My son loved canoeing with his dad, exploring the giant boulders, swimming, and trying to catch frogs. My baby loved playing in her play yard on the deck overlooking the lake and watching all the birds, which included a bald eagle and loons. My husband and I enjoyed reading, fishing, making smores by the camp fire and star gazing. By far our favorite part of the cabin was lying on the deck after the kids were asleep and watching the stars, satellites, metior shower, and milky way while hearing the loons and the water crash on the rocks. The cabin is overall very cozy and welcoming. The beds were not the most comfortable but everything else was great. There is plenty to do at the cabin and Acadia National Park is only and hour away. Definitely worth the 9 hour drive for this extremely relaxing vacation.

Great spot to get away and relax!

  • 4 of 5

Perfect camp for family to enjoy all aspects nature. Beautiful clear lake, our family enjoyed fishing, canoeing, catching tadpoles/frogs in addition to campfires and cookouts. Wood stove was great addition for the rainy days and the only downside we had was that the mattresses were too soft/springy for our liking. Otherwise everything provided that we needed for our entire stay, and local store available in Eastbrook for when we didn't want to drive into Ellsworth! Loved the fact that the other cabin is close so that we could have friends or extended family vacation with us too!! Thanks Michelle for everything! We enjoyed our stay tremendously!

Peace and Serenity

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was amazing! It is basic but has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing vacation. Our family enjoyed fishing from the dock. A HUGE snapping turtle visited us daily and listening to the loons every night was amazing. We grilled out, played games, reconnected as a family, and enjoyed nature. This cabin is a special place. I hope our family can return soon.

Car: recommended

Great location to make day trips to Acadia Park and Bar Harbor! Ellsworth is also a great little town to visit nearby.
