The guesthouse was comfortable and had what we needed. One thing I would add would be some plastic drinking glasses. I was always conscious of possibly breaking the nice ones that were available. Being above the garage, however, whenever the door was open, there was a very strong gasoline/fuel smell coming into the apartment. It would be bad if someone had asthma or any sensetivities to chemicals. It was a little awkward being so close to the owners house. We didn't know what we could use or where we could go. In the photos, there is a deck with chairs, but this is part of the owner's house, and we didn't know if we were welcome to use it (I would have felt self-conscious anyway, being part of their house). Laura greeted us briefly, but did not explain anything about the property. It just felt awkward the whole time we were there.

We could have used directions to the house (besides "it's not hard to find"). We had gotten directions off the internet, which were wrong and we finally stopped at the tourist center in Bemidji. Fortunately there was a man there who knew the area.

It is a good place to use as a home-base for spending time at the surrounding lakes and other tourist spots. We took day trips to Itasca and Big Bog area.

Remote and rustic

  • 3 of 5

If you are looking for off the beaten path rustic, this place is for you. No working TV nor WIFI nor even cell service. Had enough space but wasn't ideal in terms of temperature( no AC and an apartment above a garage gets hot) or location. More than 20 minutes from town.

Great place to stay in Bemidji with lots on MN nice

  • 4 of 5

The folks at the property have a nice little place to stay that was a perfect home base for spending a few days taking in the nearby MN state parks in and around the Bemidji area. The bunkhouse was clean, cozy and comfortable for our 4 person family and very affordable. We met one of the owners on our arrival. She gave us the full rundown on the property, things to do, places to see and made us feel welcome and right at home.

The bunkhouse is simple and basic. You have a small TV with cable, a small refrigerator, microwave, stove, washer/dryer access. We were only there for breakfast meals and the 4 of us were fine eating picnic style. You're not going find a thousand cable channels and there is no wifi but that's not why your staying in the north woods. Others before us report a water smell, we noticed it as well but it did not bother us at all and is to be expected from well water.

If you like to bike ride, boat, fish, golf, hike everything is just minutes away from the bunkhouse. Bemidji state park and the Paul Bunyan bicycle trail are 10 minutes away. Be sure to take in the 20min Bog Walk trail in the park if you enjoy the outdoors. Itasca State Park is about an hour away and a must see park. Plan to be there all day.

We booked less than a week in advance, taking a last minute vacation. We submitted our request and received a prompt confirmation and friendly response and messages in less than 24h. We would go back to the bunkhouse and would recommend it to anyone looking for nice place to stay.

Thanks for a great stay

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the bunkhouse. It was clean and comfortable for our family of four. We were in town for a baseball tournament and after long days at the ball field it was great to have a quiet place to recharge. Laura and Ben are very accommodating and friendly!
