About this property

Santa Gertrude's Historic Casita

The large one bedroom Casita is located on Santa Gertrudis Lane in Tumacacori. The location is absolutely perfect for those who enjoy nature, hiking, birdwatching, gallery hopping, horseback riding and experiencing the historic West. This area of Southern Arizona is just teeming with history. Our property was the location of a stage coach stop between Nogales and Tucson.
The Tumacacori Mission borders two sides of our 8 acre property giving our visitors a peaceful retreat and opportunities to easily explore the mission, the De Anza Trail Santa Cruz River and Tubac. Tubac is a pleasant 4 mile hike or bike ride away. Tubac is known as the place where 'Art and History Meet' There you will be able to visit over 100 galleries, restaurants and stores. Tubac also has a state park and museum where you can explore more of the history of our area.
The Casita has a full kitchen, bath, living room and bedroom. There is an unheated pool on the property which is perfect for cooling off and rejuvenating after a day of exploring.
Pets are welcome. We also have facilities for boarding horses.
All of our Casita's have been recently renovated. We offer our guests accommodations that not only fills their need for a place to stay but also is a soothing experience where they can renew their spirit.

Wonderful old Southern Arizona Location
First the good: Great location, old growth trees and proximity to trails and the nearby river make this an exceptional place to stay. I saw numerous birds and deer on my walks along the river which is just a short jaunt from the casitas. Overall, a very peaceful place to enjoy nature, if the woodshop is not in operation. Not so good Check in was nonexistent, when I showed up no one was there except for a Spanish speaker who tried to help me. She told me no one was scheduled to check in, so she gave me a room and I am not sure it was what I booked or not. She tried to be helpful. I emailed the host well prior to my visit with a question and I never received a response. I was never contacted by the host or had my question answered the entire time I was there. The wood shop was 40 or 50 feet from my casita, if they were working all I could hear was the noise of compressors, saws, routers etc. I could not sit outside if the woodshop was in operation and my porch was wonderful. The dogs which many have mentioned did run about. They were not aggressive, but they did poop everywhere and when I took my smaller dog out with me the Shepard type dog came bounding over which scared my small dog. Their dogs were never aggressive, just a pain. The bad I can't believe VRBO lets them rent a place with no smoke detector or CO monitor since it used gas. The casita reeked of the odor of dryer sheets, so I had to air it out, so I was not overwhelmed by the overdone fragrance.

Casita Get-Away
We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this casita on an 8-acre property just minutes south of Tubac. We look forward to returning.

Close to Anza trail, quiet, cute
The casita (Queen 1b) was nicely decorated and cozy. We came for peace and quiet on New Years weekend and we’re not disappointed. There are 2 things that could help boost rating. Two large resident dogs roam around and poop everywhere and it was difficult to walk anywhere on the property without the risk of stepping in it. I’m a dog lover, we brought our 2 dogs but we always bag and dispose of their waste, which as a veterinarian I can state, does transmit disease. The interior of our casita was very nice, but the outside of the property as a whole could use a whole lotta love. We did enjoy our stay overall, especially the proximity to the Anza Trail. We learned from reading about the mission that the water in the nearby Santa Cruz River bed is mostly treated effluent and it’s advised to stay out of it. (After we unknowingly let our dogs walk in it and drink from it ) would’ve been nice to get a heads up from the property manager about that.

My husband and I fell in love with this property located just outside of Tubac and off of the Santa Cruz River. We were bewitched by the history of the property and were compelled to renovate the buildings. We have put unique touches in each of our offerings to soothe our guests and renew their spirit. We are woodworkers and our studio is on the premises. We create functional art with local mesquite wood.
