About the property

Direct waterfront cottage on the Shenandoah River. Sweet!

An amazingly adorable direct waterfront cottage on the beautiful Shenandoah River. You can't get any closer to nature than this! Romantic and secluded with plenty of privacy. Relish the best of both worlds... like camping along the river, but with all the amenities of home. Home features a large deck that extends out over the water complete with rod holders and spot lights for some night cat-fishing. Enjoy sitting around the fire pit roasting marshmallows for s'mores, or maybe hanging out at your personal screened-in tiki bar. Wake up to full water views in the master bedroom suite with a queen sized bed and attached to it's own romantic bath with an original claw-foot tub. The second bedroom is quite cozy and has it's own powder room and also a private deck for morning coffee. There is also plenty of open space along the river to pitch tents if kids or guest would like to enjoy some real camping. There are tons of things to do and places to see around this area. Virginia's wine country is just up the road and features a dozen or so vineyards beginning within about a 12 minute drive. You will need to visit the historic area of Harpers Ferry for some great history with civil war museums, shopping, restaurants, pubs, and cobblestone streets. Hollywood Casino and horse track in Charles Town, WV is roughly 15 min away. There's horseback riding, zip lining, white water rafting, tubing, canoe and kayak rentals all within a few short miles. The list goes on and on. Many of my guest float just across the river and down stream a bit to a boat and tube rental company (River Riders) which will allow you to pay them to ride their bus upstream with your own tube. That way you can float back to the house! Pretty cool huh?! Well this is my full time home. I keep it very nice, neat and clean, and only rent it on weekends in the off season and weekly rentals during peak season. Check out my pictures and availability... it truly is a gem and a must see. You will want to come back year after year.

Want to get away?!

  • 5 of 5

Location, location, location. if you need to get away, this is the place for you! The home is well appointed but the true attraction is the view. After a few days of white water rafting, hiking and zip lining, this was the perfect oasis to return to. This is a special place and I am sure that we will return. Thank you Bryan for sharing your home.

Very Happy

  • 5 of 5

The house was a lot nicer than we expected. We were worried about having to share 1 bathroom with 4 adults and 2 kids but it turned out that there is also a powder room which we did not know about. Main bathroom has a shower and tub. House was very comfortable and spacious. Property was great for relaxing outside and fishing off the deck. Definitely plan on returning for another getaway, everyone had a great time.

Relaxing and lazy

  • 4 of 5

We wanted a truly lazy get away. This is it! The cottage is far enough from the city that you end up staying put. The river is lovely. Surprisingly, the mosquitoes weren't bad at all! We just sat in the river and enjoyed the sun. When it rained, we could sit in the screened in porch or watch from the big window in the living room. The house is cozy . It looks just like the pictures. While it was generally clean, it would benefit from a more detailed cleaning. We had some ants in the kitchen and spiders/cob webs in the bedrooms. Bryan was a great host and left us four tubes to use. We enjoyed the break!

A rock quarry neighbor but nice cottage

  • 3 of 5

Effort to provide guests with a memorable experience is evident in the thoughtful equipping, décor and fun factor. Home and grounds offered reasonable privacy and were clean, well maintained. The river deck overlooking the Shenandoah is the star attraction. Guests should note there is a very large quarry less than 1/2 mile from the residence (not visible across the river). The grinding hum and clanking of heavy machinery is distracting but not overwhelming. Excepting on Sunday we could hear the quarry works 24 hours daily. Suggest earplugs or loud fan for sleeping if you are a light sleeper and portable music to try and whiteout the quarry noise when outside. Make sure to keep house and car windows closed as quarry dust can infiltrate. Bed pillows were uncomfortable so consider brining your own.

While decidedly distracting, the industrial hum and rafting traffic was not a deal breaker for an otherwise relaxing stay.

Summer Done Right

  • 5 of 5

The images posted on this website and Facebook do not do this little slice of river heaven justice. Once you pull up (if you are like all of us, you will easily miss the house by driving right on by to a dead end) you are in complete awe and instant vacation mode. The land is in tip-top shape--walking access all around the house, including easy access to the river via walking down man-made stairs. Everything is organized, clean and in great shape. The house is actually WAY bigger than what we expected. Full kitchen with a dishwasher, laundry room, two bathrooms (one full/one half), two bedrooms (sleeps four in total), dining room with a side office, living room area with TV and a walk-out deck hovering the river. We used this house for a small bachelorette party and literally only left twice--once to a bar in Leesburg which was about 30 minutes away and also to go tubing which is literally down the street and you even PASS the house while tubing so make sure you bring the key so you all can stop and grab more beer/water/food or have a bathroom break!

We will totally be back.
