Watch the seaplanes land and sailboats pass by as you relax on your private oceanfront estate. Gorgeous sweeping views of Ganges Harbour are visible from nearly all rooms of this one of a kind heritage retreat.
Built in 1906 by the pioneering Tolson family, this property was the first private school on the Gulf Islands and was later a creamery and then the private retreat of a technology billionaire and his family, during which time the property was greatly restored.
A vast variety of birds and other wildlife make this 4 acre property home. Watch the swans, eagles, hummingbirds, blue heron, quail and other exotic birds from the enormous picture window and expansive veranda. Raccoons, otters, deer and other critters are curious, safe and plentiful.
There is much to do here for all ages. On the property, there is plenty of exploring to do, and the 300 feet of private beach front to enjoy. The main lawn is large enough for a serious soccer game. Pick fruit and berries at several times of the year, then bake them into a pie in the great kitchen that looks into the gorgeous back gardens.
Various flowers are usually blooming all over the park-like gardens and landscaped terraces. Numerous exploration paths weave throughout the property.
Off the property, hiking, kayaking, sailing, golfing, fine dining, casual dining, patio drinking, swimming, shopping, scuba diving, a day at the spa, fishing, yoga, farmers markets, etc... are all close at hand.
The house is set up perfectly for entertaining and relaxing alike. With plenty of space indoors, the adults can enjoy the evening with a roaring fire in the main living room, while the kids use the spacious upper living room or the entertainment room to watch movies on the big screen and play games of all sorts. There are plenty of bedrooms to go around, all beautifully furnished and well appointed. The three full bathrooms mean that no one is waiting for their turn for a shower. The big gourmet kitchen provides the space to cook a grand meal while onlookers enjoy a glass of wine without every getting in the way.

This house is operated by the Island Heritage Appreciation Club which allows members to use it to cover the costs. Membership is open to all those who appreciate well-maintained heritage properties.

I'm a city boy from Vancouver, who has always dreamed of enjoying and maintaining an island heritage property (You don't so much 'own' such a property as take your turn looking after it) Traveling is in my blood, but I love the natural wonders and serenity of the Gulf Islands of British Columbia more than anywhere else I have been privileged enough to visit. An environmentalist at heart, I am sensitive to keeping this property chemical free and the house as healthy a living space as possible.

We fell in love with this late 19th century estate when a friend bought it many years ago. Every opportunity to visit that came up, we made it a priority to get there. This is one of those properties that changes your life in so many ways, and all of them for the better.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Once you arrive at this property, you no longer need your car. Everything you need is within close walking distance. But when you enter and close the gate behind you, you are in a private world all your own and the outside world ceases to exist. It is the very best of all worlds!

Beautiful heritage home right in Ganges but wonderfully hidden so it's very private
Fabulous weekend on Saltspring Island
I hosted a gathering of 9 friends at this fabulous property. The view is absolutely amazing and the location, unbeatable, but I was very disappointed by the state of the gardens. With some work and regular maintenance the grounds could be stunning (as suggested in your descriptor), right now, they are not. The building is full of wonderful character but is in desperate need of maintenance. For example: the ceiling in the kitchen is coming down because of a water leak in the bath above, the floor behind the toilet and sink in the bathroom of the main floor is rotting, the foundation on the back and side of the building is crumbling, and all of the woodwork outside needs attention. Thank you for sharing your place but you really need to do some upkeep!
It's a pretty beautiful heritage house on an amazing piece of property close to the Markets in Gange
Beautiful house on a nice waterfront property with amazing sunrises. We had all the amenities we needed and the house was really roomy. The lawn is so big that we played a lot games on it and there even blackberries to pick. With a little more attention to a few older things around the house and property; I would say it's perfect! I would come back for sure and recommend this place.
Beautiful location for a large group
We stayed at Eagle's Landing in August to celebrate our anniversary with a party for family and friends. The house was perfect! It has a variety of spaces to sleep a large number of people, and the rooms are large enough to gather in. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to work in. The location is ideal for anyone wanting to do a little shopping, browse some galleries and/or catch the Saturday market. The beautiful, mature trees surrounding the house keep it cool even on the warmest days.
Everything you need to enjoy your stay is there: a full sized BBQ, lawn games, picnic supplies, Apple TV/Netflix and a hammock strung up in the sun. Our favourite time was mornings sipping coffee in the front room taking in the spectacular view of the busy harbour. We are very grateful that Michael allows this special place to be shared.
A spacious home with character.
The home we rented suited our requirements very well. There was plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 children. We appreciated having 3 bathrooms. The upgraded appliances were a plus. The dining and living room were spacious and accommodated us easily. The wood burning fireplace was also enjoyed. We appreciated having a crib for our littlest one and thank you Michael for securing a high chair for our stay.
The barbecue on the front porch was well used.
For those of us who got up early, the view of the sunrise over the harbour was fantastic.
Everything we needed was within walking distance...groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, playground, Saturday market and best of all the bakery across the road.
The island provided us with enough to do...cheese factory, winery, brewery, cidery, model railroad museum.
Our family that lives in Vancouver expressed interest in coming back to this location.
We have many fond memories of our stay.
wineries, organic farms, yoga retreat and drop ins close by, many artist studios, farmers market and fair, book stores, video rentals, antique stores, clothing stores, restaurants and delivery, pubs, heritage museums, music venues, theater, old fashioned movie house (current movies though).
When you are on this very private property you would never know that this is all at your doorstep.
Additional pricing information
Standard rates apply for all holiday weekends. Standard rates also apply for the Christmas/New Year season from Dec 15 - Jan 5 The 'Maintenance' fee of $150 covers a final pass by the cleaners, consumables and resetting of the property for the next guests. Because our cost to have such an extensive home and property fully cleaned after a departure exceeds this, guests are requested to leave the property significantly as they found it. Alternately a 'Full Clean' fee of $300 allows guests to depart without lifting a finger. Although this site states that refunds will not be given on deposits, we do have a deposit refund policy that provides our guests with protection. Because people book a house like this well in advance, if you cancel it will very likely sit empty. But if you must cancel 50% of your deposit will be refunded if cancelled more than 60 days prior to arrival date.
