Overview

About the property

Recently renovated 1 bed, 1 bath garden apartment next to Rome's central park

Welcome to the "Palm House Villa Borghese". This is the largest one bedroom/one bathroom apartment (807 sq.ft. or 75 sq.mt.) offered in the neighborhood and it is also the closest apartment to the Villa Borghese park. It offers a central location with a quiet surrounding. It is literally steps away from the Villa Borghese park and includes WiFi, AC, Sat. TV, DVD player and 2 bicycles. It also has a private separate entrance with car park (free) and garden. The patio is furnished with a sofa, arm chair with ottoman and a four seated table for outdoor dining.

The apartment is located on a calm leafy tree lined street in the Villa Borghese and Parioli area. It is situated in the most exclusive mansion filled neighborhood in all of Rome and boasts over 30 embassies within a 10 minute walking radius. Many sights can be visited on foot. The park of Villa Borghese is only a 3 minute walk from the apartment. Once inside the park you can enjoy a relaxing walk to the famous Villa Borghese Museum (5 min), the park's zoo (5 min), the Etruscan and Modern Art Museums (10 min), Piazza Del Popolo (25 min), Via Veneto with it's elegant shops and fine dining (15 min) and the top of the Spanish Steps in just 25 minutes. The tram station to the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum as well as the bus stop to the city center sights and to the central train station are only a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Not to mention the neighborhood super market, open air fresh produce market and local restaurants which are also only a 5 minute walk away.

This large barrel vaulted ceiling apartment with it's oversized windows is very spacious and bright. It has a large bedroom with an American king size bed (rare for Europe) and lots of built in closets and drawers. The kitchen is modern and fully stocked; it has a dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator and induction stove top. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo and a lighted vanity with an oversized sink. The living room is elegantly furnished and contains a sofa bed for sleeping an exta 2 people along with two comfortable upholsterd "tub chairs". The TV is huge and contains both digital and satellite channels along with a DVD player. The dinning room is spacious and can seat 6 people very comfortably.

Now, the best for last. The apartment is fully private, just open the gate with the remote control and you have entered into your own private oasis. No street noise and no people walking by the unit. The apartment comes with it's own private car park, garden and furnished patio which is all extremely rare to find here in Rome. There is no other apartment offered that has more amenities than this one. After an exhausting day of sightseeing, you will really enjoy/appreciate this quiet and calming area to wind down your day!

About Hal McMillan

Hello, my name is Hal and I own this newly listed apartment. I am an American who has been living in Rome for over 20 years. I grew up in Orange County, California and went to college at USC. While I was a student, I did a semester studing in Europe and just fell in love with the beauty of Rome, it's people, it's culture and all the history this country has to offer. I caught the "travel bug" as a student and have travelled all over the world since then. I love meeting new people and learning about new cultures.

Why Hal McMillan chose Quartiere III Pinciano

I chose this property because of it's close proximity to the antique center while not having to deal with all the antique centers' chaos. If I were describing this apartment to a New Yorker I would say that it's like living on the Upper East Side and having Central Park at your doorstep. Here in this neighborhood, instead have having "Brown Stones" we have one family mansions (now more or less embassies) and instead of "Central Park" we have the park of "Villa Borghese" with our own famouse museum and zoo. Just a 25 minute walk across the park and you have reached the antique center.

What makes this apartment unique

The most unique benefit of this apartment is that it is fully private and quiet. I don't know of any other unit that has it's own private remote control entrance gate with car park, garden and furnished patio. I also live in the same building so you can rest assured that I will always be around for any type of assistance that you might need.

Everything you want in an apartment!

  • 5 of 5

You will love the apartment and your landlord. He greets you with a tour of the area and all the info you need to get started. He also stocks the frig with essentials so your first breakfast is covered and wine too. He’s very accessible and friendly.

I was worried that the location was far from the city. It was great. The neighborhood is quiet and refined. The transportation takes you into the old town which is crowded and full of tourist restaurants. You can tour all day and return to a calm place to relax and walk to dinner.

Make your reservations for the Borghese Gallery before you leave. It’s close and not to be missed if you are an art lover.

Palm House, lovely experience

  • 5 of 5

We flew into Rome and the choice of Palm House as our accommodation was perfect. As described in the VRBO listing it is a ground floor one bedroom apartment away from the madding crowd. The ameneties included a/c, washing machine and dishwasher, compact kitchen and comfortable bed. The space allowed privacy when one of us was up with jet lag and the other slept. It was close to many attractions but also a good hike from downtown. The area is generally quiet and quite safe for evening strolls. Very close to bus, tram and metro routes.

Hal gave a thorough tour when we arrived, pointing out the grocery store, market, good restaurants and transit options. He is entertaining, engaging and helpful, and he responded quickly to any issues or inquiries we had.

Our stay was a pleasure, a wonderful intro to Italy.

Outstanding apartment, gracious host!

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin?

The apartment is comfortable, bright, spacious and well-decorated with ample storage space and a well-equipped kitchen. Each room has large windows to let in light and air, as well as blinds that afford privacy.

The private patio is a delightful spot to enjoy a morning espresso, an afternoon glass of wine or just to sit and read a book.

In the dining room is a wall of bookshelves teaming with books, magazines and information on Rome.

Hal, our host, couldn't be more gracious, welcoming and hospitable. He starts you off with a walking tour introduction to the neighborhood, pointing out bus and tram stops, restaurants and markets. He is friendly and enthusiastic, making sure you feel most welcome and at home.

We hope to see him and Raniero again (maybe in NYC?) and we are happy to call them friends!

Grazie for a wonderful holiday!

Look no further!

  • 5 of 5

We had a marvelous experience staying at Hal McMillan’s Palm House, so much so that we hope to use it as a base for a trip to Southern Italy.

Location: The apartment is literally a half block from the expansive Villa Borghese park, and is situated in a rather posh, residential area populated by a number of Embassies occupying grand mansions once owned by wealthy families. It’s a quieter, calmer area not overrun by tourists, yet it’s only a 15-minute walk across the park to the Spanish Steps or the Piazza del Popolo.

There’s good tram and bus access from this location, too, which makes the entire city more accessible. Tip: Download Probus Rome or MuoversiRoma apps for public transit details, and the MyTaxi app that operates just like Uber except it’s for Roman cabs. Note: Regular Uber is banned; Uber Black is much more expensive than the taxis.

Apartment: This is a spacious, comfortable, attractive, stylishly furnished and well-appointed ground floor apartment with its own shaded patio that affords a lot of privacy. Hal is a conscientious, attentive owner who has tweaked the apartment and guest experience to perfection. Everything works very well and easily – dishwasher, washing machine, TV, air conditioner, WiFi, etc. The kitchen is compact but highly functional, the living quarters quite nice, the bed very large.

Host: I don’t think you could find a more attentive or responsive owner. Prior to our trip Hal quickly replied to questions and made recommendations on health clubs and pools nearby. He arranged for a car service to meet us at the airport, which was a huge convenience. We arrived to find fruit, a bottle of wine and mineral water and breakfast foods. As a long time resident of Rome, he’s an invaluable resource to any guest. We wanted for nothing, and hope that all our future VRBO experiences are as pleasant as this one. Thanks so much for your hospitality, Hal!

Perfect secluded hideaway !

  • 5 of 5

The perfect location, close to the highlights of Rome but in a secluded, safe and very upscale neighborhood. We were delighted with our decision to book this apartment for 6 nights, it exceeded our expectations in every respect. Hal is the ultimate host and gave us a walking tour of the amenities in the neighborhood on our arrival. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops and grocery stores are all just a few minutes walk away. The apartment is large and spotless, with lots of windows and everything we needed to feel comfortable including air conditioning. The bonus was the private patio in the rear garden, the ideal place to relax with a glass of vino after a day of sightseeing. The location is away from the hustle and bustle so the neighborhood is very quiet, no traffic noise means uninterrupted, restful sleep.

We will be back, next time for longer.

Lovely place

  • 5 of 5

We spent four nights in Villa Borghese and found that it was just a perfect spot for us to experience Rome. The location is close to everything but still lovely and quiet; we frequented Aphrodite, the local cafe; we walked to the spectacular Borghese gallery; and Hal was a superb host; showing us the neighbourhood and making us feel like we were staying with friends. We look forward to coming back !
