Overview

About the property

Recently renovated 1 bed, 1 bath garden apartment next to Rome's central park

Welcome to the "Palm House Villa Borghese". I have been awarded the badge of "Premier Partner" by the HomeAway team. This is the highest recognition of excellence given to a property owner. It's a commitment ensuring the apartment is always in excellent condition and guest relations is always at the maxim level. Please read all my five star reviews.

This is the largest one bedroom/one bathroom apartment (807 sq.ft. or 75 sq.mt.) offered in the neighborhood and it is also the closest apartment to the Villa Borghese park. It offers a central location with a quiet surrounding. It is literally steps away from the Villa Borghese park and includes WiFi, AC, Sat. TV, DVD player and 2 bicycles. It also has a private separate entrance with car park (free) and garden. The patio is furnished with a sofa, arm chair with ottoman and a four seated table for outdoor dining.

The apartment is located on a calm leafy tree lined street in the Villa Borghese/Parioli area. It is situated in the most exclusive mansion filled neighborhood in all of Rome and boasts over 30 embassies within a 10 minute walking radius. Many sights can be visited on foot. The park of Villa Borghese is only a 3 minute walk from the apartment. Once inside the park you can enjoy a relaxing walk to the famous Villa Borghese Museum (5 min), the park's zoo (5 min), the Etruscan and Modern Art Museums (10 min), Piazza Del Popolo (25 min), Via Veneto with it's elegant shops and fine dining (15 min) and the top of the Spanish Steps in just 25 minutes. The tram station to the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum as well as the bus stop to the city center sights and to the central train station are only a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Not to mention the neighborhood super market, open air fresh produce market and local restaurants which are also only a 5 minute walk away.

This large barrel vaulted ceiling apartment with it's oversized windows is very spacious and bright. It has a large bedroom with an American king size bed (rare for Europe) and lots of built in closets and drawers. The kitchen is modern and fully stocked; it has a dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator and induction stove top. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo and a lighted vanity with an oversized sink. The living room is elegantly furnished and contains a sofa bed for one extra person along with two comfortable upholsterd "tub chairs". The TV is huge and contains both digital and satellite channels along with a DVD player. The dinning room is spacious and can seat 6 people very comfortably.

Now, the best for last. The apartment is fully private, just open the gate with the remote control and you have entered into your own private oasis. No street noise and no people walking by the unit. The apartment comes with it's own private car park, garden and furnished patio which is all extremely rare to find here in Rome. There is no other apartment offered that has more amenities than this one. After an exhausting day of sightseeing, you will really enjoy/appreciate this quiet and calming area to wind down your day!

About Hal McMillan

Hello, my name is Hal and I own this newly listed apartment. I am an American who has been living in Rome for over 20 years. I grew up in Orange County, California and went to college at USC. While I was a student, I did a semester studing in Europe and just fell in love with the beauty of Rome, it's people, it's culture and all the history this country has to offer. I caught the "travel bug" as a student and have travelled all over the world since then. I love meeting new people and learning about new cultures.

Why Hal McMillan chose Rome

I chose this property because of it's close proximity to the antique center while not having to deal with all the antique centers' chaos. If I were describing this apartment to a New Yorker I would say that it's like living on the Upper East Side and having Central Park at your doorstep. Here in this neighborhood, instead have having "Brown Stones" we have one family mansions (now more or less embassies) and instead of "Central Park" we have the park of "Villa Borghese" with our own famous museum and zoo. Just a 25 minute walk across the park and you have reached the antique center.

What makes this apartment unique

The most unique benefit of this apartment is that it is fully private and quiet. I don't know of any other unit that has it's own private remote control entrance gate with car park, garden and furnished patio. I also live in the same building so you can rest assured that I will always be around for any type of assistance that you might need.

Beatiful Private Place - A Perfect Base for an Adventure in Rome

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying in this awesome apartment for 10 days in June. First, Hal (the owner of the apartment) is a great guy. He took the time to give me a tour of the neighborhood when I first arrived showing me the local markets, places to eat, where to buy metro/bus tickets, and recommendations on what to see and do – which was all super helpful as a first time visitor to Rome. Second, the apartment is fantastic. It is well furnished (there is a super comfortable king sized bed in the bedroom – how often do you see that in Europe), the kitchen has pot, pans, plates, etc. if you want to cook or eat in, and there is a great private outdoor patio for relaxing in the evening. Third, the location is ideal. The apartment is on the northern edge of the Villa Borghese park. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk to the Spanish Steps or the Piazza del Popolo. The apartment is in a quiet and safe neighborhood with a nice local feel away from the tourist crowds in the historic center, but close enough to enjoy all that Rome has to offer. The apartment is also a quick 5 minute walk from the tram stop for lines which will take to you to the Vatican or Colosseum. It is also close to various bus routes that will take you to Termini Station, Trastevere (great places to eat), Testaccio (fun night life) or all the other sights in the city center. I would recommend downloading the "Roma Bus" app as it will allow you to plan your metro, bus, or tram trips with ease. I liked my time so much at this apartment, and found Hal to be so nice and charming, I will definitely try to stay here again next time I travel to Rome.

Excellent apartment. Spacious, clean , comfortable and beautifully furnished

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this apartment for a week It is spacious, beautifully furnished and well equipped. The garden area is a welcome retreat after a busy day sightseeing. The centre of Rome is easily accessible either a walk through the park or by tram. The owner could not have been more helpful, showing us around and always responded to emails prior and during our stay. Highly recommend

Gem on the edge of Villa Borghese Gardens

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic apartment in a great location, and Hal is an amazing host. As other reviewers have noted, Hal gave us a tour of the neighborhood, provided all sorts of valuable information regarding local restaurants, museums, the park, pharmacies, public transportation, etc... even made sure the bike tires had ideal amount of air! This apartment allows you to feel you're a local yet is close enough to enjoy all the traditional must-sees in Rome. So glad we stayed here.

Very private suite with terrace in a neighborhood right next to Villa Borghese.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Palm House. First, the neighborhood is very quiet, with beautiful gardens and well cared for houses. There are excellent restaurants and cafes very near, and public transport is easy from there. The Villa Borghese is only 2 blocks away.

The apartment was immaculate. The well designed kitchen is very has everything you could need and the apartment adjoins a private terrace where we spent a day reading in the sun. We used the bicycles provided to ride in the Villa Borghese park in the mornings. It’s a great way to get down to the top of Via Veneto.

The owner, Hal, gave us a lovely walk through the neighborhood, By the end we felt at home. We even met some neighbors as we walked about. He is very kind, and clearly likes people, so you will feel comfortable asking him for advice or help. This is the closest you will come to feeling like you live in Rome, short of renting a place. We will be back.

A bolt hole from the bustle of the city centre

  • 5 of 5

Sean and I chose this property for the first leg of our honeymoon in Italy and it did not disappoint. We stayed for 5 nights and we filled our days with organised trips and exploring the city areas.

It was a pleasure to start and end our day walking back to the apartment through the beautiful gardens of villa Borghese.

The apartment is spotless and tastefully decorated.

Hal was a perfect host- he walked us around the neighbourhood and recommended coffee shops, supermarkets and restaurants. We had a fabulous meal on our first night at the restaurant Rossini.

Unfortunately we didn’t have the time or weather to relax in the courtyard but I imagine that would be lovely after a busy day in the city.

The neighbourhood is quiet and feels safe. We would definitely recommend.

Thank you Hal!

Debbie and Sean

Everything you want in an apartment!

  • 5 of 5

You will love the apartment and your landlord. He greets you with a tour of the area and all the info you need to get started. He also stocks the frig with essentials so your first breakfast is covered and wine too. He’s very accessible and friendly.

I was worried that the location was far from the city. It was great. The neighborhood is quiet and refined. The transportation takes you into the old town which is crowded and full of tourist restaurants. You can tour all day and return to a calm place to relax and walk to dinner.

Make your reservations for the Borghese Gallery before you leave. It’s close and not to be missed if you are an art lover.
